- Tour the the beautiful Half Moon Cay in Bahamas as we did during our 7 Day Western Caribbean cruise aboard the Holland America Eurodam in December 2017. Carnival Cruise Line, the parent company of HAL, also have cruises that visit here. This island is the best private island/beach we have visited among the several we have visited with other cruise lines. The pinkish beach sand was absolutely amazing- it was soft and fine like powder, unlike anything we have experienced before.
You have to take a tender from the cruise ship, which was about a leisurely 10 to 15 minute ride. At the dock, you enter Fort San Salvador into Pirate Cove. There are lockers that you can use. A fountain decorated with sea shells greet you, along with the Rumrunners Bar. There are also various guest services and a first aid area at the front.
The highlight of of Half Moon Cay is the beach. It is gorgeous with the powdery sand and crystal clear waters. We did some snorkeling and saw many fish as you can see in this video.
There is a private Oasis Cabana as well as the Club Hal Half Moon Lagoon Water Park at the beach. There are of course shops as well where you can purchase some locally made goods. There is a Bahamian Church where I would imagine couples could get married at. More amenities include a full basketball court as well as a misting station. You can also get a massage as well in one of the cabanas.
Further down the beach there is the "I Wish I Could Stay Here Forever" Bar and a pirate ship building which is the Captain Morgan on the Rocks Island Bar. Nearby is the Food Pavilion where you can enjoy some good BBQ in the form of burgers or ribs. I must say these were the best cruise ship private island foods I have eaten- good stuff.
There is a short Nature Walk where you can see interesting plants such as "Sea Grapes" and Seven Year Apple. Holland America also offers private beach cabanas that you can rent out.
Holland America touts Half Moon Cay as being voted as the #1 private island for cruise lines, and now we can understand why!
Looks like a wonderful day and it's not nearly as crowded as I thought it would be. Thanks for the info!
Yup it is a very large beach and there were plenty of chairs & space for everyone. Very fun but can get quite hot. Thanks for watching & commenting!
Thank you for sharing!
You bet- thanks for watching and commenting!
Hello new friend just showing ur channel some love thumbs up stay connected
Hello very nice video . Just wondering how to book this ? First time cruisers here .
To book you can contact a travel agent or go to HollandAmerica.com (it's a Holland America private island), but Carnival ships also visit there, so you can also book via Carnival.com. Usually it is better to book through a travel agency or an online site such as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc so you get the best promotions. Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any other questions!
What was the air/ water
temp in Dec?
It was about low to mid 80s if I remember correctly, and the waters were warm enough to swim in.
My next cruise ports here. Is it worth paying for an excursion or best to walk and see what island offers for free?
It depends if you want to do something more active (e.g. horseback riding) or relaxing. If it is the latter then you definitely don’t need to spend anything extra. We always have a great time there w/o spending anything extra- lots of free amenities.
Are towels provided?
You have to bring them from the ship.
Awesome video!!! What did you film with???
Thanks! This was filmed with the GoPro Hero 5 black.
TravelTouristVideos wow very impressive. Did you use a gimbal or stabilizer?
Did you snorkle from shore or on a boat excursion?
We just walked out a bit from shore.
Ty, we are going there soon and i was trying to decide if we should book a snorkeling excursion. That's cool u could see all those fish that close to the shore!
For sure. If you bring some bread from the ship (or the BBQ buffet area on the island) you will make friends with a lot of fish. Have a great time- it's a beautiful place!
Soft cause it’s years of parrot fish eating coral and pooping out the skeleton
