I' an intermediate English learner. Would you mind if I ask you a question? 2.23, 'foundries mainly manufacture computer chips.' in this caption The word 'foundry' means 'metal casting factory' in our indigenous dictionary. I suppose It'd be somewhat weird to call the cutting-edge factory as 'foundry' old-fashioned name. Is it called so, commonly? I suppose it should be called as 'computer chip fab' or 'Semiconductor device fab'.

That was an indirect quote of Robert Li, Vice President of U.S. Synopsys. It does sound old-fashioned. A foundry can also be a place where glass is melted. He is perhaps expanding its use to working with silicon chips.
