  • If you're 55 or older, there are a few things that our retired clients would tell you to stop doing. They wish they knew to stop these themselves to have better retirements. Thiago Glieger discusses what these are with federal employees and those planning their federal retirement.

Great point about the adult children! This happens more often than some may realize.

Yeah, save as much as you can, and if it's not enough, just adjust accordingly. I have some back up plans myself and I'm from Central America (Nicaragua), so I can live half a year there and half a year in the US. That would cut my cost of living to less than half! Just get with a financial planner like the gentleman in this video. It's well worth the time and few bucks! The more planning the better.

Agreed, failing to plan is planning to fail!

@@TheFedCorner Yeah my friend. Imagine that folks that live in Central America can live off $500 per month or less. Now that's learning to budget. My wife already has a property in Nicaragua and my mom might leave me her little house that she paid cash for ($45k to be exact).

My mom told me when I was 17 I have no money for you to go to college, I don’t know what you are going to do. When I left for the military when I came back from boot camp my mom had cleared out my bedroom and made it into a office, sewing, workout room. She put her hand on my shoulder as I stood in the doorway and she said they say you can never go home again. Well in your case it’s true. Same advice I gave to my adult children.

Teach your children to be independent and you won’t have to toss them out. My daughter is always welcome, but doesn’t need to and doesn’t take advantage.

Well, she might change her mind once she is old and feeble. Then she will definitely need you. In fact, she may have to move in with you and your family.
