    "Walk of Life" is a song by the British rock band Dire Straits, featured as the third track on their fifth studio album, Brothers in Arms (1985). Initially available as the B-side of "So Far Away," it was later released as a single, peaking at number seven in the US charts and number two in the UK, marking it as one of their most successful hits. The song showcases a simple rock and roll rhythm with iconic synthesizer-driven keyboard riffs and references to classic songs and busking in the subway. Despite not originally being intended for the album, Dire Straits' manager convinced Mark Knopfler to include it, leading to its lasting popularity and appearances on multiple compilation and live albums.

    Great pick fellas! Mark Knopfler is one hell of a guitarist. He has a style like no one else. He doesn’t often get mentioned with all the English guitar gods but he’s a master of his instrument..He’s top tier in my book.

    This song and Twisting By The Pool are just a lighter side to the band. I get what you're saying Oli, but as you said you're only 3 songs deep into the band. When you look at their body of music, you might appreciate it's lightness a little better. Keep on rocking guys.

    Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, Tunnel Of Love, Romeo And Juliet, Calling Elvis, Your Latest Trick, Twisting By The Pool, Brothers In Arms, On Every Street, Planet Of New Orleans, Once Upon A Time In The West and the list goes on and on for great Dire Straits tunes. It's a great journey to take. And Knopfler's other work during and since is even more extensive.

As most bands that had a reasonable* amount of albums, they have many types of songs. This is not one of your favourites? That is cool. Everybody has its own tastes.

Heard some stories, met a few of the higher ups if they came up to the shop. Biggest find after they left. A v-8 engine block. Flash forward a few years, biking through Clarksdale Mississippi heading for a shower got offered a job as a carney. Passed on that because heard the stories, saw how fast stuff went up what pieces were lost loading out plus stiil had to finish that ride

    Thanks for reacting to this song. My favorite Dire Straights song of all and one of my favorite songs of all time. I saw this video back in the day when it came out and liked it. But they did a better video to this same song, without the sports footage. It’s fun stuff, but it has nothing to do with the song, which is about a street musician playing in a tunnel.

    there were actually 2 videos released. this was the most popular one. the other I believe was concert footage and Johnny busking in the tunnels. This video was mainly shown in america due to american sports bloopers. as the band felt that our sports would be lost to someone outside of the US (at least during that time).
    the song also mentions several other oldies (50s) songs: i got a woman, mack the knife, be bop a lula, what'd i say, my sweet lovin woman, all songs being played by johnny in the subway tunnels.

  • @bamachine
    @bamachine 4 месяца назад

    That was just a synthesizer you heard being played. Seems like half of the songs in the 80's had synth in them, just like nowadays and autotune.
    I know Olli is going to get roasted for his reaction but I kind of agree, as a fan of the Dire Straits. This is my least favorite of their hits. I never really liked too much synth. Van Halen also started using far too much synth on later albums when I think Eddie should have been sticking to his guitars.
