His question "do people really like these jokes" yes yes we do. Its now part of my vocabulary. Dont ever stop these im in college for heavy right now this keeps me motivated.
Im really thinking about getting into the trade, Im an apprentice for a regular 310s mechanics license right now but every 310s mechanic I talk to tells me to think twice about getting into it. The Hd work really interests me though
@Big Mike I genually say do what you feel you want to do. Im going for HD Diesel and Heavy equipment repair. I was a mechanic for light vehicles before and was a service writer as well. Every aspect sucked. Heavy is a more demanding but more upfront service, primarily commercial customers are "Usually" easier to deal with i think.
@@Turkelton I enjoy working on the cars but its always the dealership dramma that makes me rethink it. These videos obviously dont show the worst jobs but I think working more independently would be nice.
I've been an industrial hvac tech for 15 yrs and always wondered what it was like to be a HD mechanic. I find this channel fascinating. Gotta love the sense of humor that comes with trade jobs.
Haha when he said you can smell it on camera I know exactly what he means. They smell terrible especially on ones that get a ton of movement like dozers and skiddies
Just an FYI. Worked on Kubota units quite a bit. For the engine oil level they like to be half way up the dip stick. If you over fill it on the old ones it will just burn down to half way on the dipstick. If you over fill the newer units. They will try and burn it off and sour the DPF, then it has to be replaced. Like the vids guys👍
2 Questions for Cam or any of the other techs on tekamo. What is the most expensive bill you had to eat because of a mistake you may have made repairing it? For example splitting a unit to do a clutch and maybe it wasn't set right and you had to split the unit again and fix your mistake, would you eat the labor for 2nd time splitting the unit or would you still charge the customer? I'm curious because you are independent. Whats the coldest weather your work in? I live in the Canadian prairies where a couple months in winter can result in 30 or more days of -30 Celsius. How would you work in that? I would be very cautious and afraid of breaking components.
My compliments, this is my job from 45 years, all days outside hot, cold, rain snow and sand. Unfortunately for me, today, all genius in white jackets hasn't this school, good only for open the laptop. Tks
Interesting point of view about air filters. I work in west Texas and pulling filters to clean is commonplace because of the sand and dust. Our restriction numbers are gospel because of how easy it is to dust an engine down there. That being said we’ve always been pretty liberal about pulling filters to clean or even inspect between pms we are just very careful.
man this remined me of the 80`s when i was driving a wrecker towing Heavy on the motorways ,, shitty weather but the best job ,,,,, Love the vids man Rob Now in hot Australia (NO SNOW )
For sure everyone will have their own opinion and service style. Once I pulled an inner air filter and actually found a couple small pieces of the compressor blades just in behind the filter before there was any symptoms of a turbo failure. Not that that is something you usually are looking for but it is for me now lol. Personally I change the outter every 250 and the inner every 500 as , in my opinion, you can have a fair amount of "restriction" in an inner and not see it visually as it is a finer filter pleting. It is more exspensive for sure but that's just how I do our fleet. Great content, enjoy seeing other styles and techniques. Oh yeah, I work on road building equipment over on the Island!
I've worked in the automotive industry and currently an Aircraft Tech for the last 14 years. I have never run into an issue of fluids smelling really bad. I keep seeing that in videos of yours. Does the fluid smell bad even when its new and its just amplified after use? I'm just curious haha
I'm a 3rd year 310T Apprentice. I've been watching these videos non-stop because I've been looking to get into heavy possibly when I'm licensed in 310T. Anybody on here for advice would be great lol. I am looking at a job in Alberta currently. A little fact on air filters. The more dirt they accumulate in them they actually filter more efficiently using a dirt wall. So brand new ones technically don't filter as many contaminants as well until they have sucked in a bit of dust first. Cam knows his shit :D

We heave to change the outter filter every 250 on our services because there’s so much dirt on our construction site so much grading and dirt moving if you don’t change the outter every 250 that light will come on before the next service
U-Line sells a "patio" propane heater that runs smaller cans, should be enough for a pop-up with 3 side on a breezy day. Been trying to save for one for the balcony at home. Edit: iirc less than $300
Trick I do with the snap on handles is get a screw driver with the hard handle and switch them to my ratchets that’s the only way I’ve found to get the hard handle
We just have to replace the air filters every 250 our spec doesn’t call for that but because the amount of dust in our particular equipment we usually always change them at every 250 not that I agree we should always but it’s part of the routine but again this is a very specific high dust application so that’s probably the difference certainly wouldn’t be necessary in most applications
I had to do an oil change on a 7.3L diesel, and the drain plug bit was stripped to fucking shit, and this explains.... so... so much... I had to get a file and essentially make a new head... not gonna lie I kinda had fun doing that, felt like a machinist.
I work on Cummins generators that use 3 and 4 cylinder Kubotas like that and my goodness do people tighten the shit out of the drain plugs on them, I almost always have to use my big 1/2" snapon ratchet to get them loose.
Yeah I’ve been watching you for a while now how the hell did you lose your tooth I am missing one on the opposite side it’s only broken in half but I got mine fixed why have you not got yours fixed?
It took me a lot of years handling hot, full oil filters, only to find out the common sense approach. Now, I punch a hole in the bottom and let it drain. It not only prevents oil coming down the sides to get all over your hands, but it's lighter and it cools off without oil in it. Punch your hole damn it!
When it comes to the filters as he said use your judgement.. Those 2 filters for the engine the outer and the inner.. I never touched the inner fields but the big outer filter I do take off and clean with compressed air... But this various on how dust did it environment is.. If you're using compressed air that is too high you can destroy the filters very easily and you're doing more harm than good.. Sometimes to filter would last longer than the recommended intervals for change. If they look good over recommended interval I don't change them. But however when it comes to the filters to the cabin... I changed them out regularly... I clean them out I put them back.. Using compressed air when I'm cleaning them.. And if they say that you should change your filters every 500 or 1000 hours I change and twitze learning that time...
Swing drive oil our oil looks a little..........*let's say something that's keeps this on RUclips*....*nothing.... "so yea" got a good laugh from me shouldn't have been that funny but it was

That water separator hose fitting should be tight on those, that may be where the sweating and dust accumulation is coming from.
