Me, a few days ago: depressed as fuck about covid19, going to chill out with some jawnzee videos. Finds out they're all gone, starts tearing up I won't be able to watch the high sierra one ever again. Stumbles on this link and is incredibly thankful.
I'm watching a a lot of your videos again after a bunch of years. You were the first person I found that made these types of videos. Selfishly I always hope you'll return to doing them frequently. I love the story telling in beautiful areas, the music selection, and the reality of being on trail through your eyes. As soon as new videos pop up I watch them like they'll cease to exist if I don't. Hope you're doing well.
late to your channel, brilliant film. would absolutely love to see more of these. something so peaceful and joyful about this. much needed in these times. thank you.
John I wanted to take this time to comment and tell you a few things that I think you should know. I myself am not a smart person, I have not accomplished a lot on my life and in general am a low energy individual with a lot of anxiety and social issues. For instance I at one point didn't leave my house for 4 years straight. nothing had any kind of luster or importance to me after a friend of mine took his own life. It took the death of another friend to open my eyes to how I was wasting the life I have. So I reached into the void and found this world...this beautiful fucking world that is just teaming with potential and majesty. If it were not for your videos that I stumbled upon I would not be where I am today, I probably would not even be standing here. Your videos taught me about the beauty if nature, humility and minimalism. With your inspiration I was able to hike across America, and then the Appalachian Trail then The PCT. I developed courage and grew to realize how small I really am. Just wanted to let you know your videos made a difference in this world. Not on just my behalf, but many others. I start the CDT southbound in two weeks and I am nervous, but excited...I know I can do it because of the skills I have learned. Anyway take your time and please stay safe during these turbulent times. Thank You, -Johnathan - Honey Legz
I cried with you at the end. What an accomplishment! Congratulations. Stoked I came across your channel. I marathon watched your CDT thru-hike, now delving in further. Really dig your artistic eye and edits. I'm a still photographer trying to make videos. haha. I love the scene where you walk back to the camera and say "The things I do for these videos. Can you blame me?". No, I can't and thank you!
This is so inspiring and a joy to watch. Even as you get emotional at the end. No one waiting, no big crowd. Just yourself and a goal. Truly amazing and humbling.
John Z - so motivational. I have watched 20+ times, and every time I watch a want to watch it again. Can't wait to see you try again just to be out there and hike the way you normally hike and meanwhile smash the supported record.
Hey John, I don't know if you read these but you're a huge inspiration to me as both a hiker and filmmaker. Being able to watch this is an absolute blessing and being able to see any other old content from you would really help me learn how to make hiking films. Anyway I hope you're doing great, whether or not you decide to ever be a public person again.
Your emotion at the end is so powerful, wanted to give you a big hug. It's amazing how being on trail makes us so strong and also breaks us open at the same time.
Really miss you and your videos man! Your vids were the main inspiration for my first section hike, and now I’m over 4,000 miles into this crazy lifestyle! Hope all is well.
Do you happen to have any of his GDT videos liked? Luckily I liked this one so I have access to it, but I REALLY want to watch those over again, especially the one where he says his goodbye to his Grandma.
Okay, so I just finished my AT hike and now am investigating other trails. I clicked on this video just to see what the Colorado trail looked like but man, a few minutes in I became so invested that I couldn’t stop watching! When you were doing the last 50 mile push I literally cheered you on and I even shed a couple tears when you reached the end. Way to go!!! Gorgeous trail and video and WOW I am so impressed that you took the time to film so much for us. Thanks for that!!
I just completed a thru hike of the CT and your video was one of the reasons I did it. I was not on a speed record but enjoyed the trail thoroughly from start to finish. Happy trails.
Been waiting for this!!! Could possibly be the best video you've ever made. Very inspiration to say the least. Also very interesting to see the mileage in every clip. Honestly John you have one of the best channels on RUclips! The ending was pulling on my heart. Wish you the best of luck in everything you do. Stay safe and have fun.
Congratulations!! Major accomplishment!! You did it! Nothing tops achieving a goal! The scenery was amazing. Those mountain meadows are hard to beat. Love the fox and the moose. Cool wildlife throughout and a very impressive thunderstorm. Congratulations again! It was great to watch. Understandably emotional. You crushed it!!
Congrats John, excellent accomplishment and video edit. You and Andy both seemed frustrated about "oversleeping" on the final night. But really, who's to say you could have made that final push without that time to recharge. It's definitely not just dead space where you're not making miles, it plays it's role. Thanks for capturing the beautiful Colorado landscape so well. All the best.
i think that's legit for andrew's. he was pulling pretty deep throughout his time. i was doing a lot of sleeping throughout the hike. and on top of that i was actually pretty fresh that last night from taking it easy and taking a nap during day. taking 20 hours to do the final 50 miles in that condition would have been way easier than sleeping for the first 7 and then pushing that hard for 13. aaaanyways i don't still think about all the ways i could have done better ha -__-
Hey mate, just found your channel at like 3:30AM in Dublin, and holy crap you're making me want to get back out in nature and get on the trail. Was mesmerized for every second and it was an instant subscribe. Thanks for bringing us along and for not editing out the raw emotion at the end. Really powerful. Thanks for being you and I can't wait to watch more. Cheers!
Wow. This video encapsulates the adventure, guts, and sorrow of hiking. Not only are the shots diverse but the editing and scoring create a true piece of art. I’ve watched so many backpacking vloggers. John Z, you are now my favorite youtuber. You’ve inspired me to be my best self, thru-hike the pct in 2019, and hike to my fullest potential. You rock dude.
Best Colorado Trail thru-hike video I've seen yet! You really nailed all the feels of a thru-hike, except you nailed it in abbreviated form. Congratulations on another successful hike, and congratulations on a beautiful and heartfelt video account.
Out of the thousands of videos I have seen on youtube. This blew me away .I loved it so much and bro , I have to say after completing that . YES REAL MEN CRY . That was amazing I support you 120% buddy !!!
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him the Colorado Trail FKT. It doesn't make sense, I know, but you had this sweet Abe Lincoln thing goin' on at the end that made me think of this quote. Congrats!
Must have watched this more than a dozen times so far- love the video editing, music, and the scenery.. amazing. Btw- on my way back from skiing crested butte today, I stopped at a trail head and saw your signature for 7/12 @ 1:52. That book is almost done.. you were towards the front. Again, thanks for sharing--
My daughter found your videos and asked me if I knew who you were. I replied to her: "He's a ultra light weight hiking pack builder, very reclusive.. and the fastest hiker in the world."
So many congratulations are in order!! Your hiking endurance always impresses and you set a blistering pace here, so amazed that you can hike 50 miles in a day.
It was great to see your reaction to finishing. It took me back to walking up to the sign on Katahdin, I wasn't sure what to do, but as soon as I touched it, I was overcome with emotion, such a wonderful feeling.
John - great job! Really enjoyed the video and especially the emotion at the end. I've done the CT twice and know that emotion all too well. Thanks for sharing!
All I can say is.Holy S@#T!! This is the best video I've seen you do. What an amazing feat, I can't believe you can walk those miles and still have time to film. This slow poke hiker is in awe of you!!! Amazing job!!!!
Just....WOW. That was freaking "AWE"-some. I have done things like this on a bike but I can't begin to imagine doing even the first 1 or 2 days on foot. 45-50 miles a day. On foot. Are you freaking serious? You are the *man*. Loved your video!
Wow man that's awesome! I can't even imagine the feeling that over whelmed you at the end. Looks like it was worth everything you went through. The Colorado Rockies are no joke. Congratulations!!!
FANTASTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT AND TENACIOUS VIDEO JZ!!!! I love how you did this video. I am attempting a unsupported FKT on my home trail (SHT) up in Minnesota in August. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to do this... I know hot much of a pain in the ass that it can be to capture shots, but totally worth it! ~Bigfoot
I'd imagine his base weight was around 8lbs with the camera and phone. If he packed 3k calories a day at 100 calories/oz his food would weigh 18.75 lbs. If he had 1L of water (2.2lbs) his total would be 28.95 lbs. He may have packed more food than that and maybe his camera weighs a bit more, so probably around 30-32lbs.
Amazing. Congratulations. Your crazy and impressive. Thanks for sharing. I just yesterday hiked 22.6 and thought I should do better. I really need to push harder

What a beautiful story, even with the tragic beginning. Thanks for sharing publicly.

Right? It would be so intense to finish that. I just saw his channel myself.
"artistic eyes" totally!
its been such a good investment subscribing to you
keep holding through Q2, it'll be a standout in this bull market
Investment advice as well, man can do everything.
Do you have any more links to other unlisted videos? This guy is the shit!
This is so inspiring and a joy to watch. Even as you get emotional at the end. No one waiting, no big crowd. Just yourself and a goal. Truly amazing and humbling.
That edit though 👌🏼
only took me 5 months to do!
Worth every second of the wait. Thanks and praise. Well done film.

on behalf of everyone who understands the tears , well done john , well done . YOU did it : )
We just miss you! But we understand everyone needs their space. Hope the trail you are now on is just as amazing as you are!

@@classicrockandcars I think this is the only one viewable, all the others he made private - at least as far as I know :(
Been waitin for this video man, congratulations!

Your best video so far. Super engaging all the way through. This should be in a film festival.

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Thank you Sir! Crying with you!
Watched this a year or so ago, had to come back to watch the ending one more time, 2019. Your passion is contagious.
Not a hiker for Physical reasons, but love to watch not only outdoors/hiking vids, but more importantly GOALS ACCOMPLISHED. Congrats

Planning a thru-hike of the CT myself, but nothing like this. Absolutely an amazing accomplishment!
Amazing work John Z, truly inspirational.

Incredible. What an amazing accomplishment and beautiful footage to share! Thanks for posting.

Hey john, just so you know I'm trying to beat it this year. Thanks for the videos and inspiration, you're the man!
It was great to see your reaction to finishing. It took me back to walking up to the sign on Katahdin, I wasn't sure what to do, but as soon as I touched it, I was overcome with emotion, such a wonderful feeling.
Outstanding hike. Great video, too.
Thank you for rereleasing this. It’s a great video
John - great job! Really enjoyed the video and especially the emotion at the end. I've done the CT twice and know that emotion all too well. Thanks for sharing!

Great job, John. Congratulations on the FKT and kudos for getting enough footage to bring us along on the journey!
You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing & congratulations.

Some of the most beautiful scenery yet!! Way go! Crusher should be your trail name.
Congrats on the record and pushing yourself past what you thought was possible.
Congratulations John...way to go!..beating both unsupported & self-supported times.
Absolutely awesome unsupported John! - big walk man well done.
Such an inspiration JohnZ! Great job on this accomplishment!
Dude, you are my spirit animal. Gratz on the speed record!
The music in all his videos. I can’t find out what it is help
Good job mate ! Beautiful video
Amazing. Always inspiring to see you push it to the limit and show what is possible.
This is exactly why I could never do this : I would have stopped for the pizza.
lol same
beer too
Atleast get that to go
02X Nanner then it wouldn’t be unsupported
When John Z said, "Things I do for these videos man-- I'm in a rush! It's beautiful though, can you blame me?" I really felt that.
Please come back...
Fantastic accomplishment, John! Keep adventuring and inspiring others!
Quite a ride. Amazing work, man. Be proud!
That's awesome, you are a freak hiker. Well done, really enjoy your videos and the not give up attitude.
Beast Mode. Great video. Love the emotion at the end. Rock on.
~Bigfoot
Congrats I love all your videos
I had years in my eyes at the end. great job!
Damn John, this video was all-time. Not sure how I've never seen your channel before, incredible stuff.
How much did the pack weigh in the beginning? Curious what is considered "heavy" in John's world. Great video man.
This dude raising the bar as usual~ nicely done, cheers.
Congrats! Awesome walk and wicked vid. Thanks!
Don’t know you brother, but I’m proud of you. That was a helluva blaze!
Amazing. Congratulations. Your crazy and impressive. Thanks for sharing. I just yesterday hiked 22.6 and thought I should do better. I really need to push harder
I was clapping at my computer by the end! Phenomenal effort.
You are incredible!
I teared up at the end with you. Amazing
John, I'm glad there is you.
Nice!
I did the Denver to Breckenridge stretch a few times. Very nice.
