  • Here's another large watercolour painting from Elphin looking towards Suilven. Part of the NC500 route just north of Ullapool in the glorious Scottish Highlands.
This is the start of a long term project painting the wonders of the NC500.

      Glad you liked the painting😊
As I work outside time is very limited, so I don’t do a tonal study.

@@JamesPotterAboutArt ours is a 52 plate, early 2003 last of the T4s. We love it and, yes, very slow which is part of the fun. I've often thought about putting a sign in the back window saying "Yes, I wish it would go faster too!" 😄

Fantastic painting! Did you first learn to paint more realistically, then evolve to more expressionistic looser style? I'd love to paint like this eventually, do you offer painting lessons? Thanks!

      Hi Norm.
      Thanks for your message.
I used to be more detailed, however I’m much looser now.
There’s a narrow path to tread with looseness, it can easily look too simplistic.
As I’ve got older, I’ve learned to forgive my mistakes, which has also helped.
      Also, yes I do teach.
      Best wishes James
