I think earnings plays are super important, I think it is the easiest way to turn that good above average year into that "holy shit" year.
Delta is the rate of change of the option price given a $1 move in the underlying's price. It is also used as a directional risk gauge. 10 and 5 delta options are very far OTM options.
essentially delta = % probability of profit. the lower the delta the lower the risk to a 1$ move in the underlying. 5 delta is essentially saying you're at a 95% chance of Success

5% or 10% of being ITM

5/10% probability of the trade expiring as a loss, so 95/90% probability of the trade expiring as a winner, respectively.
