Hey I just finished my PhD in nuclear physics with data from jlab and I'm currently a postdoc at lbnl/NERSC. Let me know if you wanted to do an interview especially on the computing side I'd be glad to answer some cool questions. (P.S. I went to HUGS in 2015)
@@AndrewDotsonvideos I have a doubt on this since 6 months. Kindly answer please If we send a satellite towards sun and make it revolve around it within the radius in which it does not burn . We will attach 2 ion thrusters which will charge by the sunlight via solar panel on it . The 1st thruster will give angular acceleration and the second will provide the force which will balance the centrepetal , centrifugal force and radius of revolution also does not change.. The question is that Can we get a suitable velocity that it will escape out of the solar system when the 2nd thruster is turned off.....If yes , then What is the max. velocity it can achieve..
ok, i am just curious, if CERN doesn't collide out new particles, what will particle physicists do for a living, since its highly unlikely for any government to BUILD another CERN ahahahah just thought of it......love the content!!!!
Before I saw ur channel I never thought about nuclear physicists as quantum physicists or particle physicists and I certainly don't think that there were any Theorists left in nuclear physics. I always thought of nuclear physics as a really experimental thing for making weapons, a field where you study nuclear decay (half life) of elements, fission and fusion just to get more efficient at creating energy. But now I realised how hard it could get and how much theoretical it could be
Huh, interesting. I actually was not aware of other numbers and my teacher never really mentioned any besides strangeness. (In reference to my question). Thanks for the answer!
I’d recommend Math: Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Differential equations. Physics: General physics 1-3 Programming with matlab, python, or Mathematica. Saves you time when solving long homework problems. Easier to understand when you can do plots as well.
Nuclear fusion is more of a question of fluid mechanics, more specifically of magnetohydrodynamic stability and not really on the fundamental nuclear reaction of fusion, those calculations have already been done and are well understood. There is figuring out how to make sense of what most likely happens in the sun, which is the fusion of 4 hydrogens into helium rather than deuterium and/or tritium and figuring out how those protons decay into neutrons but we don’t need to understand that to well to understand the sun on a large structure, such as predicting solar bursts.
Hi Andrew, what do you think of this video questioning the whole notion of quarks and gluons? ruclips.net/video/Y3IGLak8Tqs/видео.html I should add that i have no idea about this: I have no dog in this race!

Actually smart people, unlike me.

Hi Andrew's Mom are you also a physicist or a mathematician? How can your son be so smart without a scientist mom?
@@physicsboi1744 - No, not either of those. Just a huge supporter of my son - Andrew’s Mom 💕
You are so sweet
Gonna put "in an Andrew Dotson thumbnail" on my resume now
I might join you on that one. :)

look at all those stack overflow tabs lol
The unupdated chrome and many opened tabs is I guess the case for everyone in academia lol

Kindest thing I've Heard since I saw your previous video
You see I feel the opposite. It's quite alienating, as I am not what you call "smart". /sar
