    The band name "ONE OK ROCK"
    In Japan, it is pronounced as "1 o'clock."
    The MV for their music is good, but I especially recommend the LIVE version.

    One OK Rock is a play on words for “1 o’clock” (Japanese doesn’t differentiate R from L) which was the time (1 am) that the band used to practice, when they all had other jobs during the day, because the studio was the cheapest. There is a meaning to it. lol

  • @shicelle635
    @shicelle635 5 месяцев назад +32

    The studio versions sounded more pop but the lives are way better. So we, the fans always recommend the live versions. You can try the live of this song in ‘Eye of the Storm’ tour.
    One Ok Rock’s name has a special meaning to it. So other’s have said it that it was from one o’clock, the time when they used to rehearse when they were starting. Because as teenagers, they have to choose the cheapest time to rent the studio they used to practice back then. When you read one o’clock in Japanese it is ‘one oak ruck’. So this name was from their humble beginnings.

      May I add some of their heavy songs:
      ‘One by One’ in 35xxxv tour
      ‘Mighty Long Fall’ in 35xxxv tour
      ‘Deeper Deeper’ live in Yokohama Stadium
      These are some available lives which are available in YT. When you see their full concerts, they really rock, it is heavy rock. But MVs and studio versions are more radio friendly.

    Like others have already said, i reinforce the idea that this band is incredible live. Highly recommend anything from their 2014 Yokohama Stadium performances like "Mighty Long Fall" "Deeper Deeper" "No Scared". They also have a 'heavier' song called "One by One" they performed live in 2015 during their tour 35xxxv album which is probably the top result on youtube searching for One by One live. For probably their best performance ever, imo, "Take what you want Ambitions JAPAN Dome tour 2018" is the way to go. Hope you enjoy the journey this band and fanbase will take you to :) Look forward to more reactions!

    I ditched One Ok Rock when I found out they already a huge band with fans all over Japan that adore them. I thought they won't miss an insignificant person like me as their fans, until they came to do a concert in my country in September 2023. I fell so hard for them, as if they punished me for ditching them many years ago. Now my ears are demanding to listen to their songs every time.

    Take What You Want the live performance from the Ambitions Japan Dome Tour is a great representation of the band as a whole. I feel like you're not going to get anything overly edgy from them, they're kinda like a Linkin Park in a sense, but the energy and atmosphere in their live performances is something I haven't seen from any other band. Mainstream or not.

    OOR is a talented band and Taka's voice is amazing. OOR finished their world tour and also did an open act for Muse(Evanescence) in North America and the EU. Their live performance is even better! Check it out "The Beginning" (Official EYE OF THE STORM JAPAN TOUR)

    hello sir, thank you for reacting to OOR ! I used to enjoy their mainstream songs but now, I much prefer the ones on the "hardcore" side (or more metal maybe?) like "Make it out alive" that I think you could enjoy (or at least i hope you do haha) If you plan to watch it, please choose the live version as many recommended below for every single one of their song, as they're always better than the studio version :)

    I agree with the name. Unfortunately, with international bands, there is such a disconnect (language wise) with names sometimes. One O Krock (pronounced in stereotypical asian English accent) gives you 1 o’clock. It just doesn’t transfer over well in English so they just went with One Ok Rock.
    It’s hard to get recognized internationaly without some type of pop sound I feel like. The newer songs showcase the lead singer’s vocals better and not so drowned out like their older music.
    If no one has mentioned it yet. Try giving “Make It Out Alive” a listen.
    I’m looking forward to more reactions to them! Good or bad! Interesting to see other’s opinions, especially when their taste is in music is different.

    Yes the name is misguiding sometimes but it's japanese thing, i pretty sure someone already explain it.
    One Ok Rock is a versatille band with wide range of music, if you ask for something edgy a lot of fans would recommend Mighty Long Fall or Deeper Deeper. As a fans we always said to try their live because they usually perform it more edgy and agressive, as for Mighty Long Fall live there's two type with or without scream. Another recommendation from me is One By One, Cry Out, Onion, Answer Is Near, Never Let This Go, Konzatsu Communication, Liar, Jibun Rock, Adult Suit.
    Check out their older song it's more edgy and not mainstream like the newer one, because right now they're experimenting the sound to reach western audience.
    One more thing, i would like you to check out Mr. Gendai Speaker by One Ok Rock and here is a link for the live performance

    Can understand the band's name is a bit strange, but I guess we fans have gotten used to it. You're very frank with your likes and dislikes, that's fine, everyone has their opinions. OOR has a wide range of songs from ballads to rock (their ballads are great too) and each is different, so a bit hard to guess which suits your preference more. I love "The Beginning" and when it was released 10-11 years ago, I listened to it for 6 months straight. Amongst their live performances, "Take what you want" has been described by many as amongst their best lives, so perhaps you may want to watch this next : ruclips.net/video/Ygn6aiTtCeY/видео.html

      Thank you for the recommendations! I promise honest and strive to give just that. I like what I am hearing, which is why I wanted the recommendations. I firmly believe that I can appreciate music without necessarily loving what I hear. This in this band, I see talent and a very real possibility of them having songs I will love. Almost there is what I would say. :-)

    For me it is always a mistake to make a reaction with a strong prejudice, and even worse is to comment on it to your audience.🤨
    The One OK in the band's name refers to one oclock... their only available rehearsal time.
    This is not a bad video, but many of their live performances are epic... do you like it or not?😉😎

    • @ThePentagenarian
      @ThePentagenarian  5 месяцев назад +4

      I liked it enough to ask their fan base to give me more songs to listen to at the end of my reaction. Also, I would point out that my only true prejudice was against their name. I am an evolved enough to individual where I can separate that from whether or not I enjoy the song. As I stated in my reaction, they have great musicianship and I like the vocalist voice. This particular song was very pop-like, which is why I asked their fans to let me know what other songs they would recommend. I have received several recommendations, and I am looking forward to sitting down and watching them. Thank you for your comment and question, and I hope that my response answered your question for you.

    LOL😅 😂I also thought the name was lacking but maybe it has a different implication or word play in Japanese.🤔
    I also have resisted listening to them mainly because most of the reacters that gush over One Ok Rock also gush over BTS (I tried multiple songs but have not warmed up to this band).🫤🙄
    Since it was you, I decided to check them out.😉
    Even if I hated them I love your commentary style.🤭😏
    I also liked the song but found it too bland, mainstream and radio-worthy.
    But all bands need some of those songs to survive.
    I was very impressed by the lead vocalist. He had a good voice, lots of energy, conviction, and passion.
    I will definately be back to check out your next offering for this band.❤
    🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦

    • @ThePentagenarian
      @ThePentagenarian  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you for the compliment! It definitely see potential here, and their fans have given me a couple different offerings to check out. The vocalist caught my attention as well, for the same reasons. I definitely agree with your assessment. It's a little too pop like for my playlist, but I wouldn't turn it off. I figured I'll let their fans guide me. LOL
      I have mixed feelings about BTS. In general, my personal music tastes steer me far away from them, but I have heard one or two tracks that surprised me. There is no denying the immense talent within the band, but, in general, that type of music just does not appeal to me.

      @@ThePentagenarian Hmmm🤔 I love both Pop and Metal (somehow I start getting very weirdly picky with some of the heaviest types of Metal) but can't really put my finger on why K-Pop does not appeal except for a few songs here and there. I must agree with you that it sure isn't due to lack of talent.
      Looking forward to what the One Ok Rock fans offer us😏👍

      @@ThePentagenarian I'm a Japanese ONE OK ROCK (OOR) fan. OOR fans who like K-Pop are often non-Japanese. Japanese OOR fans hate being compared to K-POP. Because they are rock artists and their fans in Japan love rock. (Some of the members have been involved in idol-like activities in the past, but that was over 10 years ago, and they have been rocking ever since they started OOR.) In order for OOR to attract attention from around the world, it doesn't matter if it is compared to K-POP. You can tell by watching their LIVE. Be sure to check out the LIVE!
      They have songs of various styles. If you're looking for hard-hitting rock, the older songs may suit your tastes better. I think the live footage of the green hair is generally intense.

      this is just the typical j-rock pop punk sound of early 2010s, nothing wrong with a song being radio worthy or mainstream lol, all the greatest bands in history are mainstream (Floyd, Zeppelin, Beatles, The Who, Stones)
