In today's vlog, I set out to find a karenderya where I could review and showcase some amazing local dishes. My first stop didn't go as planned-I was politely rejected when I asked to vlog and review their food. But the journey didn’t end there! I kept searching and found a welcoming karenderya that was happy to let me film and share their delicious meals with you all.
As a token of appreciation and thanks to my sponsor, Taptap Send, I gave them a BIG tip to support their business. Watch the full adventure and see what I ate! 😋✨

If you'd like to have automatically translated subtitles just turn on the closed captions (it's the "cc" button on the video) and then next to "cc" is the settings button where you can subtitle translation to any language you're comfortable with!
@@tagalogkurt i translate you might not be a good lover that why u got rejected 😅😅
Ano ba yan😅
God bless you always kuya kurt
Same sentiment here! No reaction, ano ba yan?

Most likely she was just surprised, confused or even wary, since getting tips this big without a twist is very rare and unexpected especially in the Philippines.
Hi, KURT! This vlog is a metaphor about life, which helps us better understand some of the challenges we face, giving us the ability to see more clearly why we feel the way we do or even how to move forward. No matter what life has thrown at us, we always have a choice. We can either look at it as a door that's closed to us forever or we can look at it as an opportunity to walk through a new door that we never knew was there before. Oftentimes, rejection is redirection, closed doors are protecting you from what's lurking around the corner. Plans fall through because better things are coming in. The wrong people pass by because the right ones are moving closer. Adopting this mindset will set you free and will lead you to a life filled with unlimited possibilities.
All the best to you and to everything that you do! ❤❤
Your avid twin viewers from Illinois,
Josephine and Jocelyn
Thank you mga JoJo! Sana sa susunod they'll want to be on the vlog before now I wonder what their ulams taste like!
It’s good that you tried different dishes like vegetables, even if you’re not used to the taste, because the viewers will appreciate it more. That’s how the typical Filipino eats.
“Pagkaing maka-masa” means “food for the masses”. It refers to food that is affordable, accessible, and commonly enjoyed by the general population.
Remember, what you find delicious might not be the same for others. Conversely, what you think isn’t tasty could be someone else’s favorite dish
I love you for doing it! Thank you for your willingness to embrace and appreciate local cuisine.
I’ll give you three hearts, including just 1/4 of my heart, to make it whole because I always comment from the heart. 😊❤❤❤
Sometimes your jokes don't land because Pinoys are not used to that kind of humor, or they just can't believe you can actually speak in Tagalog. Ingat lagi and hope to see you in LA,
You guys deserve the big tip! 😀
Do you believe tipping is an important part of showing appreciation? Let me know what you think!
YES 😊 let’s share our blessings to everyone. We only live önce. We don’t know what we will happen to us tomorrow, so lets do what makes us happy now❤
I’m trying to find out how to share tip
I agree, tipping is also a kind of appreciation or an art of appreciating someone’s work, specially tips that comes from the heart. You gave tips because you wanted to but not because you have forced to. Most Filipinos don’t ask for tips but i had an experienced abroad where upon paying the bill, they would ask you how much tips would you like to give.
I am using Taptap send for 3 months already. Thank you for this promo code sir.
@tagalogkurt
Tipping is one way of acknowledging the efforts of the service workers and rewarding them for their hard work. Just be mindful because not every country in the world would appreciate a tip. In some parts of Europe, Scandinavia, Switzerland, and in some parts of Asia specifically China, Singapore, South Korea and Japan, tipping is actually rude, offensive and frowned upon. Switzerland has one of the highest minimum wages in the world, waiters, for instance, earn over $4,000-$5,000 monthly. They don’t rely on their tips for their wage like here in the US because they’re paid a substantial amount of living wage and everyone gets benefits like healthcare and paid vacation time, and that’s the reason why they consider a tip as an insult. They take pride to care for the guests without expecting extra compensation.
Yes, rejection can often be seen as a redirection to something greater, offering valuable lessons and insights that contribute to personal and professional growth. Because rejection can open new doors and opportunities that might not have been considered otherwise, it encourages reassessing goals and priorities. This can lead to paths more aligned with one’s true passions and values. Moreover, the timing of rejection can be crucial. What feels like a setback now might actually be paving the way for better opportunities in the future. While rejection can be painful and challenging, viewing it as a stepping stone rather than a roadblock can lead to greater fulfillment and success.
TAGALOG LESSONS
Giniling ---- ground; giniling na baboy (ground pork)
puso ng saging ----translates to banana heart; bulaklak ng saging (banana blossoms)
“labahita” fish ---- is known as the surgeonfish in English
**The dish is ginataang puso ng saging with "hinimay" na tuyong labahita.
(Banana Heart cooked in Coconut Milk with shredded dried surgeonfish.)
Just a head's up! Banana heart is puso ng saging while banana blossom is bulaklak ng saging. They are two different parts of banana which can both be used in cooking as well. 😇
But isn’t it that when the banana heart blooms, it looks like a big flower? Siguro magaling at masarap kang magluto. 😇
Kumusta, Kurt!
* 5:05 I'm no Filipino major, but I don't think na merong exact word for "wondering (thinking)", siguro pinaka malapit ay "iniisip". Kasi "nagtataka" is used when you are baffled. e.g "nagtataka ako kung bakit sya galit sa akin". In that situation, I would say "Iniisip ko lang kung pwede ko'ng subukan ang ilan sa mga ulam n'yo"
* 5:35 Giniling = Ground
If you’re pleased with their food and service or wish to extend kindness by giving tips, it’s an excellent way to show your appreciation. God loves a cheerful giver. We should give with a joyful and willing heart, not out of obligation or reluctance.
He knows that though. In US, tipping is their culture, it is almost a crime if you will not give a tip. 😂
@@3dots166Yes, you are correct about the US tipping culture.👍
But he asked for our perspective, so I shared mine, which is rooted in Philippine culture rather than the norms of other countries or what is commonly accepted.
The essence of his content is not just about studying the language, food, and culture, but also about fostering a sense of community, helping one another, and uplifting the lives of small businesses and their staff. Giving to those in need, even without expecting anything in return, feels incredibly rewarding.
15:22 Si Mommy apaka non-chalant naman. Bigyan ng Energy Drink yan! 😂
Hahaha non-chalant!
@@tagalogkurtLOL, Kurt hindi kasi uubra yung nonchalant lang kay mommy kailangan talaga non (then pause ka mga ilang seconds max of 7 too much na yung 10 🤣) then chalant (mabilis plus french accent) ganern! kasi as in NR (no reaction) talaga si mommy😂. Kala ko na-stroke si mommy. Buti na lang gumalaw after 😅.
You are always such a beautiful kind-hearted person. Thank you kuya for sharing your blessings to others
Do you believe rejection is just a redirection to something greater? Why or why not?
You got rejected simply because they are not confident enough about their culinary skills.
They didnt what will happen blessings on their doorsteps sad you push away a food vlogger that give bigger tip
No😅

Foreigners, like kuya Kurt, who adapt well to the culture and learn Tagalog are the most liked in this country and deserve to earn Filipino citizenship.
Okay Walang Pilitan hehe,,,, Good JOB Kuya KUrt!!!
We could not second guess or surmise what the 1st resto owner had in mind but she was very respectful though! On tipping, I lived in the ME for a few years where tipping is frowned upon! Here in the States some restaurants include tips / gratuities, which could go higher than 25%, to their charges regardless of whether you like the food & service or not! Pinas is a different breed! If you can afford it, it is up to you to share your blessings with these hardworking folks & with whom you could banter with glee! Goodluck, keepsafe always & Godbless!
Oo nga they may have been embarrassed or felt the store was not ready to be vlogged but that's why we always ask!
I was waiting for you to eat more, it’s appetizing to see that, you just tasted the food as always
More to come!
sana kuya kurt, sinubukan mo yung ginataang puso ng saging, hindi lahat ng karenderia nag se-serve nyan, tapos bagong luto pa... you just arrived in time.. tamang tama ang dating mo yung kakabukas pa lang ng tindahan at freshly cooked pa ang mga pakkain... pwede mo rin subukan ang yung munggo nila paired with any fried fish... yung ingredients sa sa Ginataang Puso ng Saging, has shredded banana heart, dried salted fish (Daing) in this case they used a fish called "Labahita" or surgeon fish, which is a seawater fish.
Never mind if they dont want ..its their loss…it is free advertisements but anyway just do what you love by helping small business to be known..😊😊😊
Thank you!
I think they said no because they were not confident that their food is not really good. So another karinderia got lucky. I am kind of disappointed the owner did not show much happiness and excitement. Because if that happened to me, I would really be jumping with joy. Anyway keep doing good. Thank you

Hello, it's always a pleasure, I like your positivity.
By the way, I noticed that you used to add english subtitles to your videos, but recent videos didn't have them. It's a pity in my opinion, because that was very helpful for learning tagalog, since you're very expressive. Is there any chance to have them again in the future? Thank you!
Ok, thank you
@@tagalogkurtwell, thank you. I just watch all your older videos, there's so much to learn! You're good Kuya
By the way Kurt, shredded fish meat, usually dried, is used as a flavoring to some Pinoy veggie dishes such as 'guinataang puso ng saging' ....no bones though! It's nice of you to get a taste of it! You're going to see more it when you go to Cebu or the Bisayan region! Goodluck & congratulation for getting close to 75 K subs! Godbless!
Thank you very much!
9:42 No offence meant, you sounded like you are from Pangasinan when you speak Tagalog and Jared Hartmann sounds like Cebuano kapag nagtatagalog sya.

Monggo is one of my favorite! Love love love monggo, although I don't like mixing chicharon in the dish. I like to eat it separately so it's not soggy. Gotta hit up the province Kurt! There'll be more delicious dishes that you haven't tried, fruits that you've never heard of. You mentioned you stayed in La Union, I grew up in Paniqui, Tarlac so not far at all. I'm in the US now since 1991.
Sounds great!

Hi Kurt. Could I just ask what has happened to the subtitles on your last three posts? The auto-generated ones don't work/are way behind, and a major part of the beauty of your videos is the interaction you have with the locals, which is missing here.
I agree!
Watching again 😊!
Ooorrah!! Kuya Kurt! Salamat for all you do. Greetings from Philadelphia.

Ginisang munggo is usually very popular around the Lenten season. Of course with no meat aside from some dried shrimp.

Hi Kurt.
The translation of Wondering can be Nagtataka or Nag-iisip. But the former is not for this one. Nagtataka could also mean Puzzled.
Wondering why = Nagtataka bakit...
Wondering if = Nag-iisip kung...
Usages:
Nagtataka ako bakit pula ang itlog.
(I'm wondering why the egg is red.)
Iniisip ko kung pwede akong tumawid.
(I'm wondering if I can cross.)
Oh thank you for the tips!

They refuse your vlog, their loss. It would have been a free exposure to their karenderia. Plus, they missed the blessing from the sponsor.
Yeah!
Laking pagsisisi ng karinderyang iyon. A wiseman once said, "Kapalan ang mukha para maraming blessings!!!"
Hahaha dapat pala kapal mukha!
2:52 The first thing that went into my mind is, they probably don’t have business permit and the health and sanitation permit from the municipal’s office that’s why they refused for you to feature them.
Yaaay, first time nauna ako. I'M THE ONE! ❤😊☝️🤙🙏🏼
Yes, tipping is important, it is a kind gesture but it should not be expected because tipping is to show appreciation for high quality products and / or excellent customer service.
I am not a Vlogger or at least not yet; I faced more worse than rejection, i felt like i was k****d without d***g. I was initially unaware or in denial of what's going on, and when the realization sets in, I allowed myself to feel the pain because it is valid; learn from that experience, grow from it and never let it control me ever again. I asked God to take the wheel, trusting that he is saving the best for me. God's redirection can be painful, at times i feel like it's unfair, but i am keeping my faith that God will bring me to my beautiful destination and in Jesus name it will be someday soon. ☝️🙏🏼 ❤

When someone says “no” to you, it’s natural to feel disappointed or frustrated. However, how you react can make a big difference. Respecting their decision shows maturity and understanding, as everyone has the right to say no. If appropriate, ask for feedback on why they said no, as this can provide valuable insights and help you improve in the future. Remember to stay positive, as a “no” is not the end of the road but might be a redirection to something better. Embrace the journey and keep moving forward.🤍
