Van A Dee What’s on the shelves in the grocery store. That would making the decision on what I would cook. That’s the same way you make the decision in your home. You cook what you have.
@@chriscook4u2 I know hon; but I think your special way of cooking is a keeper for future generations. Kind of like Great depression Cooking with Clara. These homemade home spun recipes are worth passing forward. I just want you to know that I have been inspired by you and you make a difference.
Thank you for this. I have never mixed my beans and only had a little of each of these and came to YT to find my answer. I have to use my huge turkey oven roaster to make it though because my ham bone is much to big for my pot and my stove won't simmer anymore. I have a new stove coming tomorrow and I'm excited to be able to actually cook on a simmer again.
Making is as of now. I have ham hocks for my meat and am adding sliced jalapeno as I like spicy. I never knew cooking beans with salt causes them to split. Thank you for that info. I will remember that forever!
LOVED IT! I lost my Mom in 2020 to Covid. I can't express how many times since then I have wanted to call her for an opinion or some instructions. Your "Southern Cooking" is exactly what I was looking for. On a different note, with inflation the way it is, I appreciate learning how to stretch my food budget.
IF they had Left over dry beans they used to put them in Soups or Stews my grandmother had a saying in the COUNTRY nothing went to waste she said they didn’t believe in it look really good I love beans sometimes that was all we had😊😅😂 this is what you call good Eating
When it comes to cooking. I trust you. If you said it I believe it. I do a little catering from time to time and a client of mine wanted me to cook beans and I had half a bag of Great Northern and a half a bag of pinto and I'm going to do just what you said in your video and mix the two. The first time I saw one of your cooking videos was a few years ago. You keep things simple clean and tasty. I have since then same videos of cooking beans in the slow cooker and I refuse to cook them any other way, but I always refer back to you for the basics.. thanks for everything
Chris I’m born 1956 in rural Mississippi and your way of cooking everything is the way I was brought up and our idea of being bad was to steal tomatoes and maybe cucumber from the garden.
Yesterday, following Chris' instructions, I cooked a big pot of these beans in the crockpot using smoked turkey necks. My two young, picky boys LOVED them. They were delicious!!!
Man im fone make this today thanks for this video I needed this I never wanting to make this cuz I didnt know how to clean beans thanks for teaching me
This bean recipe is right on time I bought a lot of beans prepping for the coronvirus., and beans is easier to put up than a bunch of can food, good to know you don't have to soak overnight, everyone pray up stay safe🙏❤
Ray Sowels I love Lima beans and butter beans. They also mixed well and taste good together. I can do a pot if you want to see it. Butter beans are creamier then Lima beans.
Excellent video. You had me at "If You Have Half A Bag Of", I HIT THE THUMBS UP AND GOT READY FOR A GREAT POT-O-BEANS. I haven't tried Smoked Rib Meat. Did you smoke the meat or is it store bought? I've used Smoked Hocks, Smoked Shanks and always have good results. The meat you used made my mouth water through the whole video. Thank You Again for sharing. I Love How You Cook.
I Boil My Ham Hicks Until Tender Meanwhile I Soak My Navy Beans & Pinto Beans Together For 2 Hours For Faster Cooking Drain Water From Beans Put Beans In A Pot & Cover Them With Water Cook Until Done. Add Cooked Hamhock To Done Beans Do Not Add Salt To Beans Because Hamhock Will Have Enough Salt In It. Serve With Rice IT'S Good!!
I love dried beans. Whenever I have a partial bag leftover, I pour them in a glass jar. Eventually, I'll have several types of dried beans mixed together in the jar. I use them to make a fresh pot of beans; just like those mixed bean bags you buy in the supermarket.
I've been mixing up beans forever. It's the way I prefer beans. I just save a little from each bag until I have enough to make whatever combinations I want. Sometimes it's 5 bean soup or 3 beans. Although I have to admit some stores don't sell enough bean variety in some locations. Here, I can get a lot of dried pinto beans but everything else is hot or miss. So I don't get to mix up beans as often as I used to. Pot of beans is depressing if you don't have cornbread to smother.
I love those 2 beans in general. Im going to try just that today with the grands here in NYC. Love your cooking chanel. I have went back to the basic 4 seasons and got rid of all the other stuff. It is all you really need for your food to taste really good.
Nicole Benjamin - what 4 basics did you reduce to? Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and? I need to declutter, especially if they are expired. Thanks you in advance for your reply😃
@@dianemcquay8460 sorry onion powder. These were the only seasons my mom would cook with an occasional Lawerys when she made mac & cheese. Thats all it taste so good to me.
Ooo, I just bought a can mixed yesterday. I can’t cook so I love watching you cook. Do you buy smoke meat? My momma could stir a little dirt and make a 7 course meal! Look so yummy.
Hi ChrisCook, I'm just a fella learning how to cook. I went out and bought a smoked pork neck and I'm needing to know how many quarts of water to use for the beans? Do these beans make you break wind? Thanks

How long can you freeze your smoked meat and/or hamhocks?
Cooked meat can be frozen up to 15 months.
@@francesmingo505 Thanks.
I'm cooking this today!!! Thank you
Thanks Chris!!!! What's the sugar for?
CHRIS: Do you have a video on How to cook HAM-HOCKS? What about a video on cooking frozen collard greens.
Oh yum, please save me a seat 🍜 🥄
Can you make chewy fudge brownies please
Wish I had a bowl of that now! Looks delicious
I Know Right!?!
Ms. Chris will you tell me why you add sugar in the beginning?
Btw the beans look amazing thank you for sharing how to cook them.
Dee Curry it just makes them taste better to me. It doesn’t taste sweet just better. But it’s not necessary to get a good pot of beans.
It's a preference.. not mandatory.
