Would have liked to see a beamwidth and F/B ratio test, which is after all the whole purpose of having a yagi. Maybe a 360 deg rotation of the aerial showing the S-meter whilst tuned to the Dutch beacon?
Hi Peter 8 miles on a 21 element Yaggi at 80ft is nice for a quick test, please can arrange a DX video; perhaps pointing to Normandy in France Chud M1PUP QTH London
The only thing that attracts me to FT8 is the fact you don't need high power, but you might as well be talking to a computer, in some cases you are as it might be an automatic station. What is the point? I'm not sure what will happen to those directors on the beam after a summer and winter. I would have a concern that they might come loose in the press fit. But anyway, it is a prototype at the moment and no doubt that will be looked at.
How do u find the ic 9700. I was at the icom service center yesterday and spoke to a tech there ,he told me that the 9700 are unstable on as and other band's, has anyone found this at all great video as always thank and God bless you.
You and I agree I think, about FT8. I watched a video a while ago and at the end, I thought for what? That is not my Ham radio. The response I got back was not very kind and I felt the "old guy" ham response and maybe deserved. It seems like talking IS Ham radio. I'm still trying to wrap my head around DMR and Hot Spot. I'm going to work on that next month and without the assist of computer programing because, like you, I am on a Mac and there is no way in the world that I would ever go back to a Windows machine. Once you move up you just can't go back.
As usual, an interesting and informative vid. The bonus was your intro/closing keyboard presentation. Absolutely wonderful music. That boom should easily be disassembled when heading off for a portable outing. Any info on gain/front to back? I watch each of your vids and like/save them in my 'HAM' Playlist. Must create a new List for 'HAM_MUSIC'........ 73 OM de KA1RUW
FT8, love it or hate it, it's really useful for seeing quickly what the propagation is like at any given moment.
