Miles changed my life. When I was 16 and still at school, I was a budding Trumpet player and at that time had been the usual classical repertoire (this is back in the 80’s) and had discovered Satchmo as my first taste of Jazz.
One day I wandered into a record shop (remember them?) and there was an LP of My Funny Valentine recorded live in 1964 with the great quintet. I had no idea who he was and just bought it as I’d heard of the title song. Little did I know what was in store for me when I got it home. I didn’t understand anything they were playing but couldn’t get it out of my head.
For the last 40 years I’ve consumed, studied, copied, interpreted and basically listened to everything Miles ever recorded and in my limited Trumpet playing career (gave up professionally many years ago) was called ‘Little Miles’ many times. Met my wife on the road too.
I now just play part-time in big bands and combos but without that chance visit to the record store, my Trumpet playing and life would have been very different and his influence on my playing has been profound.

Amazing video, but would be even better if the background music wasn't so loud. But amazing video. Thank you and keep up the good work!

This was interesting. You should do a longer video; maybe like an hour. It was a good video, but I would have enjoyed more indepth details.

Thanks for this. It's hard to distill one person into 12:41, but you did a nice job. It's always a balance between too-long and not-enough-information.

Love the videos, but why the smooth vanilla jazz underneath? Is it a matter of licensing costs? Whereby using the music of the musicians being discussed would be prohibitive?
