    OR if you know any geometry, you can point your arm up at a 45° angle and walk toward the tree or back from it until your arm is pointing to the top of the tree. You are now standing where the top of the tree will land (assuming you’re on fairly level ground). The two equal length sides of a right triangle makes the hypotenuse at 45° angles from the sides. 90° + 45°+45°. The angles of all triangles add up to 180°. You can use a carpenter’s level to get used to what is a 45° angle if you are inexperienced in doing this.

      In layman's terms, use your forearm and fingers for your stick lol.
      Nothing different than the stick trick, well call it the forearm trick.
      I like the stick trick because it's a little more accurate since your "sights" are further away. Either will give you a little help.

    If you are felling down hill you should add at least ten feet. Depending on the steepness of the hill, thickness of the hinge at the point of tip, the tree species and whether the tree is mostly dead or alive, most trees will jump downhill from the stump at least that far. I have had them jump twice that far but only rarely.

    you also need to add your height and add your height to the tape measure distance to get the height of the tree, if you do not add your height that is from the distance from your hand to the ground you will be that much off on your height of the tree....

    I cut a huge poplar three years ago on a 45-55 deg or more grade. The butt landed nearly 20’ from the stump…..my own property, nothing for targets
    But I have to say I was not expecting that much travel

    The height of the tree is greater because you didn’t take your height off the ground into consideration. Need to add it.

    • @ScottWConvid19
      @ScottWConvid19 Год назад +2

      That's what makes it a little over so you know the tree will fall short of your point of reference.
