The Godfather deleted scene.

I'm a very big fan and I've never seen this segment. Thanks so much. It is a direct connection for some of the open ended issues.
Yes many I've seen and there's bits I've missed
Great scene, but it's not needed, which is why it was cut.
You're not a big fan so because you would have seen it
@James That scene did not make final cut.
@@chrispaschal7955 it was cut because it detracted from Vito's persona of power to admit weakness .
I wish they would put every deleted scene back into this movie, even if it made it 5 hours long, I'm sure no one would complain.
The uncut extended version is out there. I've seen it several times.
Called the godfather saga. They lay it out in temporal order too so it starts with Vito as a kid escaping Sicily which is the beginning of Godfather 2
@AlwaysMe ForEver any ideas were we can find it?
@Jay Smith any ideas were we can find it?
Basically read the book and skip every Fontaine Chapter because none of them matter.
“I take full responsibility,” That’s the moment Vito knew, Michael will be the man
That's also the moment Vito knew that Michael was not the man he was... and there would be trouble for the Corleone family.
It's a bittersweet moment. Vitto never wanted this for Michael but also knows for his family to survive Michael needs to step up and do what he says he'll do. Vito is sad and proud at the same time.
@@Xentradi97Survival is relative when you have to start killing off your own relatives. That's the major takeaway from Godfather III that everyone seems to gloss over, Fredo betraying Michael and Michael's vengeance each by themselves were a violation of everything the family claimed to stand for, and a sign that it was all for nothing in the end
@@kongming66 ur thinking too far ahead. Vito was wise but wasnt a clairvoyant, he'd not have known Michael will go as far as killing his sister's husband or the brother. Their immediate position was threatherned by Barzini and others. He wanted peace but he also knew what Michael was about to do was necessary which is why he didnt object tho he could've. And he'd not been so sad if it was Sunny who had to face this as he fully expected him to. He just wanted different and non-mob life for Michael which he himself would have chosen if he could've protected his family without doing so.
@@kongming66 And no violence and vengence was not a violation of what family stood for. Godfather himself killed and took vengence what are u talkong about and is what Mob life is all about. Did u think Coleons were just an ideal ur friendly neighbor mobsters?
A flash of pride and sadness on Vito’s face. He knows Michael will be a great leader, but never wanted him in the family business.
He fears Michael will turn jnto something tragic and destructive... and his fears were well founded.
Part “you’re too good for this” and
part “you’re kinda perfect for this because of that”
Exactly!
I think he saw himself when he was younger and understood this never ends. There will be always bloodshed and violence in that life. It never ends.
Brando.
Don Corleone never wanted to drag Micheal into to crime aspects of the the family, but he looked so proud here!
Yeah you can tell Michael was always the favorite regardless of which path he went. Vito knew he had the makings of a varsity athlete
Who is "Micheal?" Almost every video of The Godfather, people spell his name "Micheal." I've never in my life known anyone who spelled their name "Micheal"

@@janetmccoy7945 Michael was vengeful indeed. Even towards family members
Unbelievable moment in the movie. At the Don’s weakest moment he realized how strong Michael truly was and would rise to be. Love this movie
Vito had the “that’s my boy” grin on his face.
Yeah, gladly I noticed that too😊
He did
He was so proud Michael understood what HE WAS THINKING
💯
Vito played the long game. He gave HIS word at the summit knowing that, with Sonny gone and Fredo too weak to run the business, Micheal had the grit to do what needed to be done. Vito knew that Michael would finish the revenge that Vito really wanted. He bought time to get Michael home. Michael was home a year before he approached Kate. During that year, his father was preparing him and needed no distractions to weaken Michael.
@joelstelmark6675 Exactly, he made sure that Michael had the space to learn and undertake the responsibility of leading the family and avenging his family losses and attempts on his father's life.
Marlon Brando was a brilliant actor. That was brilliant. He gave .Michael that Ave and Michael had no problem with it. Two dangerous men there.
💯 Al Pacino and Robert De Niro too!!!
He is so hammy here. This is a ridiculous caricature. Ray Liotta in Goodfellas blows this away. Brando was so lazy at this point

Passing the Torch, the final seal to bind it all. Don Vito knew he chose wisely.
Thats what he wanted to hear!
I respect, that he never forced his son Michael into that world. But that is what he wanted to hear. And the fact, that Michael brought it up, not him ( the godfather), told the godfather, that Michael's thinking was very keen. Which is necessary in that business. And some things, you can't give a pass on. Yes!! He was proud that Michael wanted to handle that, because he couldn't, and that it was Michael's idea.
@@virgilbunn3314
You respect that he didn't force him?
Al right fer enough.
However,as Coppola said " Father betrays the son, som never betrays the father "...
In otherwords son always offers himself to save the family and help the father. Father never rejects the offer, reluctantly but he always accepts it..... even though he knows son will fall into the world out of which there is no way out.
" He betrayed himself, he corrupted himself, he became his father's puppet ".. Coppola while commenting godfather.
Glad it got deleted. It foreshadows too much how smart Michael is and the ending of the movie.
By the end of the movie, we are freaking out bc the Vito has passed on and it looks like Michael is turning tail and trying to run to Vegas but Moe Greene is showing him who’s boss. We are all royalties PO’ed and can’t believe the Corelone family has been reduced to this! Then comes the baptism… and oh, boy, now we know Michael is more sinister and cunning that we all thought and this is all capped off by him straight lying to his wife’s face and the door closing in her as they all kiss his hand and call him Don. Man, what a great movie!
Right on Charlie! I'm surprised how many people thought this scene should have been left in the movie. This scene would have totally taken away from what was to come.
I respectfully disagree with you and here’s why it shows us just how ruthless and cunning Vito was. Although we knew that Vito had to have a part in Michael’s plan this really lays it out that both father and son meticulously laid out this trap.
Im one of those saying this scene should have been kept in. But you enlightened me and now i agree with you

You can tell The Don was pretty relieved with that response.
You can see how proud Vito was of his son at that moment. What a great story this movie portrayed.
My favorite scene. At this moment Don Vito realizes something in Micheal and in this scene, Micheal realizes who he really is. Love this scene
Even his little walk at the end makes you think he's that old, marlon brando was truly a genius of an actor.
Michael, a different type of Godfather.
I would like to see an extended version, with all the cut scenes put back in. From what I've heard, it could be several hours long. And worth every minute.
Mike was ready for war. Vito was past that.
Facts Vito knew he was in the twilight of his life and he didn’t have the time nor energy to exact vengeance
Vito knew Michael was HIM after that answer.
I am so glad they didn't add this in the film. As a viewer, we are supposed to infer this after the Heads of the families have been murdered. Great loophole by Vito not going against his word
Mike is the man.... "i take full responsibility"
The legend grows. Amazing acting. A depth movies rarely reach.
Wish I had a father that would love me as Vito loved Michal. Throught the movies its clear the Mike was his favorite. Also Al Pacino and Marlon Brando are amazing actors and work well as a pair.
Me too but I’m grown now with my own family. It makes me feel better knowing that I’m the father to my son and daughter that he never was to me. It doesn’t change it but it definitely makes me feel better
Notice Vito didn't express his desires for revenge, he wanted Michael to make that decision on his own....and he did 👍

Two legends face to face..
I love how Vito's children all had fractions of his overall qualities:
Sonny: Street smarts, strength, very cunning.
Michael: Cold, quiet, composed, ruthless when necessary (and sometimes when it wasn't exactly necessary!).
Fredo: Kindness and a bit of playfullness. He seemed, like the Don, to look for conflict resolution...War is a big expense, as mentioned by The Turk.
🍷👍
How could you possibly forget the most important factor??
*blood is a big expense
It was at that moment he knew Mike was made for that life.
Its a good thing this scene never made it. Because this was better left unsaid in the movie. It was always kind of implied that don corleone said he swore on the souls of his grand children that he would not break the peace, but that he knew when he was gone that michael didn’t make such a promise. I find that subtlty brilliant.
Also the subtlty of faking weakness. This scene has too much exposition.
You are so right, it would have given too many clues that would have lessened the impact of the events after Don Vito died!
I respectfully disagree.
Shows an important difference between father & son.
An interesting and important conversation where DonVito admits weakness. Michael can't afford to show any weakness during this changing of the ĝuard in the Corleone family.
Sonny & Sicily are never brought up, this talk at least tells us why. This conversation between father and son would have explained a lot about Michael, s acts of rage & revenge.
Times were changing, sometimes it wasn't just about business.
@jackofhearts Sonny is brought up as the whole reason when Michael confronts Carlo. That makes this scene (cool as it is) unnecessary
@@idiotwind2248 don corelone is faking weakness.. tessio and clemenza are advised not to fight back when barzini is taking over their territory, he vows not to take revenge for his dead son, and he steps back out of the boss role. That way when they make the move to las vegas, it’s seen as the corelone family being chased out of new york which exposes who the true enemies of the family are and essentially lures them into a trap. Allowing michael to strike while the iron is hot and consolodate power. Michael and vito are not different. They are very much the same.
@Chuck Tomlitz
Fair enough.
Glad someone posted this deleted scene. To use it or not use it..

Such a brilliant movie, I learned a lot from this movie and how I ran my company and still do business to this day one of the most important things I learned from this movie was keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Just that alone made a significant difference in the success of my company and my interactions with people it is truly brilliant.
I never really understood what that means tho. Keep my enemies closer?
@@Horchata44 get close to your enemies as if they were friends. Think of Michael and Hyman Roth

Don Vito grim smile at the end of the scene. Barzini R.I.P.
We just assumed this conversation took place, but it was good to actually see it. Maybe they left it out so the audience would be more surprised how brutally Michael took care of business? It didn’t give away what was coming!
Like the saying goes: SHOW!! DON’t tell! It did make a greater surprise in the the end when we SAW how brutal Michael’s vengeance was!
Every scene is a treasure from this masterpiece. How did they possibly decide which scenes should be deleted?
It’s like life. You don’t choose what memories to hold onto some just stick more than others but all important.
People just don’t understand fully the many of talent that was on this film and the fact it is done before all the technology that we have today and it still holds up as one of the best films ever.
It's more than acting with Al. He is living that part. ❤💙
Proud papa! He's gave Michael sound counseling!!!
This scene is essential to the development of Michael's & Vito's character. It should have been left in for us to understand Michael's ruthless character. "It is a sign of weakness", gives Michael the okay from Vito.
It’s better they took it out because by cutting this scene they showed they trust the audience was smart enough to understand what Vito was saying when he said he wouldn’t be the one to break the peace without having to say it
Michael was Ruthless only when it came to his family
" Every murder, every robbery he committed Michael felt in his heart it was the right thing to do, he did for his family"...Coppola in the documentary called The Godfather family : a look inside.
But there is more..... to survive in that world and keep your family safe you have to be vigilant and emotionally stable
" Women and children can be careless men can not "..... lesson he received from his father....
After which he turned himself into a savage animal to protect Kay so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved and his family.
Theres so much detail in this movie its incredible. You have to watch it several times to get the entire picture.
I cant imagine anyone really following this picture 100 % the first time watching it in a movie theatre .
Im sure back then people paid to see it 3xs atleast.
Don Corleone is a villain, but he is a man of his word, and that's why we respect and to some extent admire him.

The best conversation I’ve ever seen and heard between Vito and Michael Colone
Pacino owned it.
The existence of this scene points up the incredible work that people do behind the scenes that makes movies great. Studio execs determine what’s ultimately shown or how long a movie can be. Editors make tough calls to balance the demands of money with the vision of art of the directors/actors.
All those years and I never saw this thank you
That score even those little flute or piccolo whatever flurries just perfect . Part of the time yet timeless !

They need to remake the movies with all these deleted scenes added
"But I never wanted this for you"
Vito looked sad because he didn't want Mike to be involved but knew it was no other way.
How sweet Father and son planning a murder binge of the enemies. Revenge make all Sicilians warm in the heart
This isn't revenge....
I’m glad they left the scene out. In the movie it’s implied that Vito knows Michael is waiting in the wings and will take care of things when the time is right. It comes across more machiavellian.
I’ve gone back and forth and I have to go with the released movie version! I love this scene just for the great interaction between Brando and Pacino, but the movie is perfect as it is!!
The full length uncut version of this would be a joy to see.
I need to put back in the same or Tom Hagen thinks he's going to die.
_"You gave your word. I didn't give mine."_
Vito knew this was the right course of action the whole time, but he didn't tell Michael. He let Michael reach that conclusion by himself. This is evident in the way Vito slightly breaks his composure and smiles with joy after Michael's statement. Then Vito replied, _"We have a lot of time to talk about it now."_
Vito is so honorable, he wouldn't have talked about retaliating if Michael didn't reach that conclusion and make that statement himself.
The genius of The Godfather as a film is what it didn’t say. The editing is so sublime. These scenes would have watered it down. The greatness of a film or a book is often what it leaves to the viewers’ or readers’ imagination. This process creates something so much richer than a film maker or writer doing the viewer or reader’s thinking for them.
The moment Micheal looked down he saw the morality and frailty of his father for the first time
The book "The Godfather" is incredible. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down.
The fact Vito smiled means he knew Michael would find a loophole to that statement and so begins his other action plan
I respect, that he never forced his son (Michael) into that world.
People forget Michael was a soldier an officer and War hero, he knew how to fight and wage war!
Vito taught his son well from childhood up. If you recall, Michael mentions what he learned from his father in part two and three.
Brando is great in this, he is like a wise old wounded lion that you cannot afford to underestimate
"It is a sign of weakness"
That was a father being brutally honest and showing/teaching his son. And the father loved the son's response
Vito is a man of his word which makes him strong to his name but knowing his peace can’t last long he has to pass on the mantle to the next generation
They should have never cut this. It provides further insight and depth. Also implies the old Don's guile, and of course Mike's inherent coldness and strategy. Love the music at the end.
Vito is pleased that Michael will take the revenge.
The Don knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he swore he would not break the peace. He knew Michael would be the one to do it lol
Not getting revenge is a sign of weakness.❤
One of the best scenes ever.
“What about Sonny? What about Sicily?”
You know, this is the only time Michael ever brings up Apollonia in the entire movie.
The son that he didn’t want in the business .
But he the son who could preserve the family which was most important to Vito
He said he swore..but he knew Michael would slaughter EVERYONE!!!!🤣🤣

One of the main themes that I love about this movie is how detailed each character’s decisions Cary immense weight and the level of understanding for the circumstances regarding their choices.
very well worded

"You gave your word ,i didnt give mine " ,it all started right there ,Long live the New Don .
When Michael looks down after Vito says "It is a sign of weakness"... amazing scene here.
I can understand why it was deleted. Michael's vow during the baptism has greater dramatic impact in terms exacting revenge and establishing his power. Nevertheless Michael's vowing to take responsibility for the vendetta to come is powerful in itself. Pacino was masterful in this scene.
"That is a sign of weakness"..shows Vito's love for his son. Eventually Vito's weakness becomes the family's strongest leader. I love the deleted scenes.
Vito couldn't wait for Michael to say all that, this proved he was his father's son😂
You can see in don Corleone’s face that it grieves him to know Michael is going to inherit a lot of pain. Incredible what Brando could do as an actor.
