50:20 If you run out of cures, you can overwrite a detrimental spell with a beneficial buff. Like you could "cure" that paralyze with a bless if you wanted to. In some cases it can be very helpful. If the rogue had been one square farther away from your hydra, a haste would overwrite paralyze and then enable him to score a hit. ...enable him or them? I wonder if they exits in some sort of strange plural state :P
Some help with army sizes: Few 1-4 Several 5-9 Pack 10-19 Lots 20-49 Horde 50-99 Throng 100-249 Swarm 250-499 Zounds 500-999 Also, *DO NOT ATTACK GHOSTS* in HOMM1 with anything except the highest tier units (Dragons, Knights etc.). They take the number of units killed into their own stack. If you have 50 peasants with you and they get killed, the ghost unit count will increase by 50!
You sure about this? Can you back up this claim? I have the manual and I will gladly check if you show what page to read. I am not aware of any bonus to attack if you are behind when attacking in any of the early HOMM games.
@@flick612 There is, as far as I know, no such mechanic in HOMM 3 either. What you may be thinking of is the Champion's ability to do more damage the more he travels before attacking. It is common practice to travel behind the creature you are attacking to increase his attack strength. This is because he is moving more before attacking, not because he is attacking from behind. Either that, or you are thinking of a later HOMM game I never played. I only played the first three games.
I think the only big mistake you are making is not being aggressive enough. Your main hero should be doing nothing but attacking after the first two weeks or so. Let other heroes do mundane tasks like picking up loose resources on the map. Only take treasure chests with your main hero if he is taking the experience. Let other heroes take those chests if you are taking the gold instead. Don't forget you don't need to run back to a castle with your main hero if you are only doing so to get more troops. You can ferry troops to him via another hero.
A really great game that no one has remade is Dragon Breath. Might want to show this one. It is a winner.
@@marystar1924 thanks for the suggestion I’ll check it out!

@@mullerandy sounds like I would have been crushed by the ghosts then! Thanks for the tips, can’t imagine building up a Zound!
In case no one told you blind and paralyze can be quite good spells to block annoying troops or making sure things like archers or blocked from moving
@@breathstealer5486 thank you for all the tips!

If you attack a unit from behind in battle, it increases your attack and lowers their defenses.

@ now that you mention it, I could be thinking of HOMM3.

@ either that or I’m thinking of another game entirely lol. Thanks for telling me, I’d have started playing again thinking this mechanic worked.
Love the HOMM series though the older 1-4 is better than the newer ones.
I'm looking forward to trying the others
