I didn't take my class here, but heard many of the exact same things. The one thing I never thought about before my class was how to surrender and not appearing threatening when police show up, and how our instructor told us to think about general response and review them in you mind. In other words the said many of us visit the same place of work, same supermarket, and the same gas stations over and over year after year. He talked about how you should have some plan of action if something "happened": Getting an idea about how to escape/back doors so you don't have to engage. He talked about how it's not your job to be the police, but only defend you and others from bodily harm. The importance of scanning inside a gas station before you enter it. So much great stuff to learn in these classes.

Especially for the last sentence in your comment. I’m going to start scanning gas stations before I enter them. I’ve already started to scan parking garages when I enter and exit them. I’m never on my phone and I look inside of parked cars and in my car before I get in. Once I get in, I locked the doors immediately, start my vehicle and leave.

I don’t have a problem with classes before concealed carry. Gun ownership should be a right but concealed carry training can help make everyone safer and more responsible.
I took a class before I got my permit and I feel much more safe as a result; I learned when it is and isn’t legal to draw my gun for example, and to my surprise I found it was legal more often than I expected; if not for the class I would have been overly cautious about drawing my gun when I needed it.
Fortunately when I did need it, no one was hurt and everyone walked away.
That’s the ideal outcome for everyone.

Sure you can practice with it and “make it work” but when we’re talking about living it not living depending on how well you shoot, there’s no excuse for an instructor to give bad training.

I'm a KY resident. ky was a open carry without permit.when I started to actively carry then went constitutional carry (no permit required.just legal to own a firearm) I actually took the nra basic pistol course before the CCW class. instructor was retired police. CCW was actually certified. And three other classes for what could be considered advanced firearm or concealed carry.
There is much more to just deciding to carry a gun. I knew that before taking the classes.while I did practice a good portion of what the advance classes covered.and had settled on my gun, caliber and holster choice long before taking the classes. I still learned so much.in great part to the instructors.building on much of what ccw class basics.
A common point made by every instructor.was every round fired had potential legal ramifications.no matter how justified the shooting.and stressed situational awareness.avoidence and descilation.being the first preferred choice.property damage and worse hurting or killing a inocent person.could be real bad realities.even if the reason for the shooting.was found to be justified.
Another point made in every class.if you are carrying a gun.be it open or concealed.you should avoid conflict and confrontation if possible. property damage or hitting another person . have real consequence.even if primary shooting is found to be justified.
Also if you choose to carry.be aware of how you carry yourself.and interact with others.if someone decides feel look and or act like a threat.and involve police.while you are carrying a firearm.it can get bad for you.

As a conceal carry holder carry your weapon for your defense and for the defense of others use it reasonably and try to avoid any conflict at all cost because as an armed citizen if you start to intervene in situations out in the streets like a cop and something serious happens your NOT shielded by any civil liability and also you don't have the same immunity as a sworn police officer.

@Samuel Foley I've done over a thousand CCW classes. They are SAFETY classes. Not tactical classes, or how to become a crack shot. That said, when we shoot, it's one at a time. I hawk the student to prevent an unsafe condition, which has happened too many times to count. That's why I go one at a time. I would NEVER permit a room full of people with unknown experience to bring a gun into class, trusting them to make the gun safe (or confirm it already is). That's why they have blue guns. All that slidy, hands on the chest rigamarole is pure fluff. Learning defensive skills takes time, and a CCW SAFETY class is not the place for that. A safety class goes over the rules of safety, how different guns function so you know how to be safe with a semi- auto, double and/or single action, with or without a manual safety, as well as revolvers, double or single action. I also go over range rules, how to safely load and unload, etc. I'm sorry, but having students handle real guns inside a classroom en mass is a massive fail.

@Samuel Foley Agreed about the shooting part, but me personally, I'm going one at a time. I had a guy who went deer in the headlights on me. I put one round in a glock, put it on the table, and as I was giving him instructions, he grabbed the gun, finger on the trigger. I held his hand and gun down and told him to let go. He was in lala land and wouldn't release the gun. I was literally holding his hand down as hard as I could. I had another student fire one round and throw the gun in fear. I had another guy who thought it would be funny to state that he was taking lessons so he could shoot his wife! If someone gets killed or injured taking my class, I'm responsible. So I go one on one. I load the first time (one round) and they fire one round. If that goes well then the student loads 3, fire 3, makes safe, you pass. There's literally hundreds of hours of video right here on youtube showing how stupid people can be with guns. I assume everyone is a novice, and go from there. In fact, I have a quick version of my class for people who are serious, long time shooters, and just need to get a permit. Show me you know the rules by passing my test, then we go to the range. Other than that, I'm doing my due diligence to ensure beyond all doubt that nobody screws up. Thank you for having a meaningful dialogue with me, I appreciate your input.

@@66guns4not even close to accurate or necessary. Firearms are inspected and empty. You learn the nomenclature and handling, are you trying to tell me that a class you took only put the firearm in your hand when you stepped onto the range to shoot the qual?!?

    • @66guns4
      @66guns4 5 месяцев назад +1

@@cyberlycans4191 I'm an instructor myself. Nobody touches a gun or has one on them until I hand them one. I've seen so many people 'think' their gun is unloaded, or start to take it out for you to 'inspect' it. I never let people hand me a gun, I'll pick it up, and it better be in a case, or at least a holster. That goes for my gun store as well. It's just unsafe to have random people handling firearms without a strict protocol of safety in place. That protocol is based on experience and sound gun handling practices. Did you know people have suicided at ranges and gun stores? Have you seen the video of a Police Chief having a negligent discharge at a gun store because he was showing off his weapon? These are but a few of the reasons why I'm so particular about who, how, and when people are handling firearms around me.

Illinois has really strict gun laws that are ridiculous. People who live in these places say things like the other two comments, but that's mostly because people who don't shoot or know people who do only see guns in the news when news networks use scare tactics to drum up networking profits. People should have the right to own the tools of self defense. Especially given the current thriving civilian gun ownership market to the tune of 100 million+ gun owners in the US, prohibition will never eliminate the possibility of gun crime, including a total ban and confiscation scenario. People will not surrender their firearms, states like NJ who enact un-Constitutional gun control measure get absolutely *no compliance*. Even places with prohibition like France can be subject to gun violence. People have a right to own the tools of self defense, period.
The second amendment is not old and irrelevant. It's purpose is to give a certain amount of power to the people, to allow the citizenry to defend against all threats foreign or domestic including heinous tyrannical government. Straw men arguments will say things like "You couldn't win a civil war against the US government." DUH. It's not even meant to win wars against a government. It's meant as a *deterrence to tyranny*.
We already have gun control. Lot's of it! You *cannot own a fully automatic weapon without substantially cost prohibitive costs, and serious high class firearms licenses.* Rifles with a barrel under 16 inches are regulated, suppressors are regulated (wrongfully in my opinion, it's hearing protection and doesn't make firearms quiet or silent by any means!), you need a background check to purchase a gun, and most people aren't going to sell guns to people they don't trust. Most used firearms are shipped through an FFL dealer with a background check included too. Further gun laws aren't going to fix the problem of violence we have, even if you take it all the way to prohibition.
Just wanted to post my opinion here.
