This was a very deep/emotional song/mv. I know the song is about past memories that are sad and painful for him, but I still feel like I missed a lot of the deeper/emotional imagery going on here, so feel free to inform me below
Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 7:40. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.
have you read the lyrics to all his songs not just from d day but from the two mixtapes he released or any bts b sides? when he was a trainee idk if you know but bts was in bighit and they were a broke company only had less than 20 employees so when the trainees started to come in they were living in pretty bad conditions up until maybe 2016/2017. most of bts came from poor families especially suga. he and jin were going to college while being trainees the rest of the members were in high school/middle school. suga's family couldnt afford his college so suga had part time jobs mostly 3rd shift so he would go to school and practice then go to work barely sleeping and it was raining one night he was delivering pizza and a car hit him. the video doesnt go that far probably cause it would be dangerous to fully reenact the accident. but yeah in real life he was hit. it was a hit and run and the wheel dislocated his shoulder if it wouldve went farther he wouldve died he saw the wheel next to his head. he feared bighit would fire him so he didnt tell them and he told the members he fell down the stairs. until he couldnt handle the pain anymore then he went to bighit and told them he was quitting they asked why and he told them about the accident and why he was working. they told him he shouldve come to them sooner they got him to see doctors and paid for his college even though they didnt have much money. even though all of this he either didnt have time or was afraid to but he didnt get shoulder surgery until 2020 so he spent 8 years or longer dealing with that pain dancing those hard choreos. he talks about this in his first mixtape. also in bts song Move its a b side he mentions his moms heart. but this is the first time we heard about his dad's liver many are speculating when he left during bon voyage variety show early maybe that was when he found out which was in 2018. all of bts music is about their lives, opinions, feelings etc even the upbeat fun sounding songs are deep and lyrics should always be read thats one of the main points of bts music is the lyrics the story theyre trying to tell that they themselves wrote.
I ham not THAT caught up on the meaning behind all of their lyrics in all of the songs. I know some of the lyrics and thier meaning, but not all of it, and I hadn't know about all of this that you mentioned completely. I knew he got the surgery in 2020 but I didn't realize that was what it was for. Thanks for informing me. I have listened to a lot of the songs, but hadn't read all the accompanying lyrics. Knowing where they/bighit come from is is cool when you juxtapose it with and compare it to now. Form bighits days with nuest and glam to now having some of the biggest groups in the world is inspiring. Yoongi has worked super hard and I can only applaud him for that :)
