I never let myself cry, and this song just had me bawling in my bed at 2am. It’s such a specific kind of pain that you have to live through to understand. And she sings it with such emotion- not just sadness and longing, but an anger and disappointment directed more at herself than at others, for being who she is and still daring to hope. Then to take all that pain and ugliness and have it contrasted with her angelic voice and melody… ugh, it’s just too much. Just perfect.
I just realised how if this was from someone else’s perspective it would be a really cool “bully” song, where someone is really driving it home that no one loves Penelope, that she’s always the second choice
