Stillwater Harvest Festival , Pumpkin Drop 2023 #smashinggoodtime It appeared kids were more interested in souvenir pieces of giant pumpkins than the candy inside the pumpkin this year. I often wondered if the flesh of the pumpkin could be cloned, so maybe the kids are on to something. There is some recombination of genetics with seeds, even for plants that self pollinate and the general tendence statistically speaking is to 'return to the mean' or move back toward to an an average sized pumpkin so cloning the parent plant of a giant pumpkin would help stop the cloned plant from 'returning to the mean' and then naturally you'd have to provide the cloned pumpkin plant with optimal growing once again. Pumpkin growers do like cross pollinating their plants but I would think you increase your chances for a dud plant when trying to hit the genetic lottery. It would be a fun science project for the kids if they can clone a plant from an actual piece of pumpkin.
