    I would like to see how a tiny house would look if they didn't put the bathroom and shower in the actual home. It would be neat to see the "restroom" built on a separate trailer that was light enough to be pulled by a car. Well since my wife has a car and I a truck...it would work for us. lol

      That's a great idea! You should build it, might be on to something!

    Be careful selling things based on Sketch-up. The free license doesn't include commercial use and they could fine you and ask you to take down your material if you get noticed. Consider switching to Blender. Its free, open source 3-d development software that's free for any use, including commercial sales. You mean be able to teach people how to use Sketch-up but you cant make profit off of your floor plans pretty sure. Just wanted you guys to be aware :) Great set of vids!

      Thanks for the feedback. We're actually purposely not "selling" any 3D models or plans, just our video tutorial that is specifically based on our experience and tiny house design. But we will definitely review the legal terms anyway. I've heard of Blender, but we're so familiar with Sketchup at this point that it would be a hard change to make :P

      Yeahh, I can see where the time investment might be too much to relearn a more complicated program. Maybe as a little side endeavor that you guys can take so eventually you could sell plans and even become builders :D if...you wanted to take that direction. I'm doing extensive planning right now and watching the series you guys have out, its pretty awesome! Great job XD

    Hi Jake and Kiva. I am a 64 year old man. My wife and I brought a shed to house. we did the two walls. kitchen/bathroom/living room and kitchen. the problem is; I call several plumbers to help me out with all the plumbing. Nobody wants to help. I watched your video on How to do plumbing. Its overwhelming. But I think I am going to do it with your help guys. Here in the USA everything is expensive. Thanks guys Keep the good job..

      Thank you so much!! It's nice to hear that our videos can be helpful to you. Good luck with your plumbing, hope it all works out :)

    Do you have a clothes washer?

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  3 года назад

      We do not have a clothes washer in our tiny. Because we are on family acreage we have access to a washer/dryer in the 'big house' on the land.

    Once you finish building the tiny home on the trailer, is it conceivable to think you could transport it across the country at a later time? Or are you pretty much bound to the build site's surrounding area?

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  6 лет назад

      Yes, we could move our house if we needed too. We plan on staying where we are for the time being.

  • @DPaquette
    @DPaquette 8 лет назад +1

    Really you could have the toilet in the shower area. You just need to put the toilet in the shower. I am no plumber but from what I have seen in RV trailers sometimes they have a small stool for ladies to sit on to shave their legs in there.

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад

      We've seen different wet-rooms or combination bathroom showers out there, but we decided early on that we didn't want to go that route... it would mean either having to sit on a wet toilet, or wipe it dry after every shower... it's definitely an option, but we made a deliberate decision against it.

    Right on , nice website.
    It's a good thing you didn't put the loft over the kitchen , you wouldn't want to be smelling bacon in your dreams.
    Ha!

      Because bacon is what dreams are made of , but if you're not in a position to flop a lip over it , it can turn into a nightmare real quick!

    have you thought of storage behind the couch and sink in the he kitchen with a narrow shelf that can be raised up by linier actuator or a counter weighted rope system. also on the shower wall leave the outside wall facing the TV bare and trim out the studs giving you a 3 1/2 in deep shelf floor to ceiling. just some thoughts. have fun

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад

      +Scott Tyndall Indeed! there will be storage under the couch, that will be the main easy-access storage. The use of the corner of the kitchen cabinets is yet to be determined. We've seen cool uses of stud-depth as shelving, but we went with 2x2 framing for the inner rooms, so that will not be an option where you pointed out :P but we have a few other ideas in the works ;)

    • @ScottandTera
      @ScottandTera 8 лет назад +1

      You can take crown molding and extend the depth of the wall cavity by building shelves and using the crown to blend the shelves back into the wall like a extra deep picture frame

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад

      +Scott Tyndall Hm nice idea. If we're still talking about the show/TV wall, it's totally built and closed up already :( but I like the idea!

    • @ScottandTera
      @ScottandTera 8 лет назад +1

      +Tiny Nest well it was just an idea curious to see how it all plays out

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад

      +Scott Tyndall Honestly we totally should have done that for the wall you're talking about :P thanks for the comments, as always :D

    You have both progressed so much in your speaking abilities on camera, much more relaxed and natural. You will be doing public speaking engagements in no time! ;)
    Keep up the good work.
    I'm waiting to find the video which shows what method you've chosen to mitigate cooking vapours wafting up into the sleeping area. Washable curtains? Exhaust fan? Outside BBQ/stove?

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад

      +L.A. rabbyt Thanks :) yeah we still need to figure that out... we don't have a fan to exhaust to the outside, but we might put in a recirculating hood fan to capture odours etc. Luckily we will not have to deal with any grease, and we are cooking with less oil (and we will BBQ a lot in the summer) so the problem will be pretty minimal to start with.

    I was wondering if your egress window does have the egress capability built into it?

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  8 лет назад +1

      We're only referring to egress in terms of the size of the opening. So we did get a window that is big enough to be considered a means of egress in regular residential building.

    What did it cost to complete this project?

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  7 лет назад

      We've spent $30,000 so far and probably have a few thousand left to cover before we're 100% done.

    • @Scottybeammeup2
      @Scottybeammeup2 7 лет назад

      It just seems go crazy to me that something so small, should cost so much, esp. when you provide the labor. Love your project. Thanks.

    • @tinynestproject
      @tinynestproject  7 лет назад +1

      It's important to remember that it has all the facilities of a space several times it's size. Also if we wanted to build a simpler cabin-style structure, it could be much cheaper, but this is truly a house.
