Hi Jones family, Niki and Carla. I'm a white South African and happened onto The Jones Family Channel and have been enjoying your insight into our country. Totally enjoyed your conversation this video. From my perspective USA seems like the other side is green however you guys seem to give the impression that we are the greener grass, this is amazing to me. I thought USA malls were like ours, all in one shopping, food, banking, clothes, jewellery, independent entrepreneurs. Are we really that friendly? It is just our nature and learned from our elders. Thank you for those insights. A few things on your conversation: Lesedi Cultural village (pronounced Le se dee). It is a hotel but covers a few of our cultures. You can book a room within any of the cultures which are separate villages in on themselves however you can also do the tour and you will get guided thru the different villages (cultures) with South African meal at the end. You were talking about Pap. Each culture has there way of cooking pap. Niki and Carla when you go to Durban the pap is called Putu. It is dry version of pap up here. It is made crumbly and very tasty with a sauce. also best when eaten with milk and sugar in the morning like cereal. Up here it can be wet and sticky. The curry subject: Cape Town has the best curry by the coloured community. Their curry is more aromatic and the curry in Gauteng is more spicy and burning however the authentic curry brought from India is in Durban. There (Dbn) curry is spicy on steroids. Just be careful of the volume of spicy in Durban. In Durban is there a place you should go visit is "Shaka Zulu" similar to Lesedi Village. Giving insight into the Zulu nation. The one Shisa Nyama Niki: Shisa (pronounced She Sha) means Hot. Nyama (pronouced N ya ma) means Meat. So its hot meat. Must must do that. Authentic cooking over fire. WHAT?? you guys have not had a braai yet. Should have been the first thing you did or been invited to. We live and breathe braai. There is an official National Braai Day in SA. A few things you should know - in our government there is a saying all citizens know in SA is "Hurry up and wait" also SA knows "Africa Time" Very slow. So your experience in getting your Visas is not a surprise to us.
Lesedi is pronounced Lee-se-dee and shisa is shee-sa
@DocNikiandCarla Oh Oh Oh I forgot to say Thank You for going to a rugby match. That impressed me so much. Rugby is in our blood. We are very proud of all our South African athletes. Oh also when i say up here I'm talking about the direction on a map. Gauteng is up North and South Africans fly down to Cape Town or Dbn cause its down on a map hehe.
@@vuyokazimthethwa Thank you
@@vuyokazimthethwaShe's right. It's a Sotho (North/South)/Setswana word and is pronounced as le-se-dee.
@@lauren7558 The lesedi pronunciation that you wrote is indeed correct. As a SePedi speaker, this is correct. Nothing wrong with what you said.
Lovely guests, the person she speaks about on the Cosby Show was mama Merriam Makeba she was exiled in the US with other artist like Huge Masikela, the Apartheid government banned their music in South Africa!
Black Americans accommodated black South Africans in the US during Apartheid!
Thanks for this info! We have a connection for sure!
Hugh Masikela participated in the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1988. He was very well known in Black America during that time because of his jazz artistry. That man was AMAZING! I recently saw him in a documentary called Summer of Soul.

Hello…. I throughly enjoyed this interview Rickey, Doc Niki and Carla ❤❤❤. Carla, I don’t know why people think 🤔 you are soo quiet, we had an extensive conversation when we met, therefore, I didn’t get that impression. Ladies, I’m looking forward to your February vlog.
Doc Niki and Carla I wish you two the best❣️
I'm watching from Panama. The culture is similar here. The people are great. You ask for directions and they will walk with you to wherever you are wanting to go.
Oh wow, that's love!!!! Great people doing great things
Whoaw!!! I am a black South African born and raised in S.A. I have never been out of my country but I am fascinated by you and being able to give us a perspective on all spheres.
South Africa is a hidden gem of Africa. Our inner cities are beautifull especially, our city of Gold, Johannesburg, Santon City, South Africa, Where the Jones family live and thrive.
People from Panama, I do love Panama. This are the countries who had the city and country with the same name. I am fascinated by your city spelled as PANAMA CITY. Thank you for commenting.
I like that you guys brought up that part of we don't really get how great we are.. Because I was thinking about this yesterday.. First of all I will say we are not used to being showered with soo much complements as a country, we are so used to being in our corner doing our own thing, enjoying and criticizing our selves. We always knew America to be the greatest and if one of us goes that side, we took it as "You've made it" and cheered 👏.. Now all of this is new to us, at some point it's unbelievable.. And we are so hard on ourselves because we know how far we could be, we are not happy with how our government do things a lot of times (corruption) because we understand the potential our country have.. Man we could really go far, we can be terrible but we are such a nice bunch, we are people of good vibes and that goes a long way. We love this country so much, and a lot of people could straight up tell you that "I wouldn't choose to be from anywhere in the world other than South Africa" (that time we don't even travel that much lol)so we get it, but it's hard at the same time, because we are like if only this could stop.. Also I wanted to bring up that the movement ( Africa Americans and South Africa) is growing and it's getting attention from a lot of people now here and outside.. A lot of people get it and some are concerned, because it's new so it's raising eyebrows.. Because we never thought people from America would want to move to South Africa, it's kind of mind blowing if I'm being honest.. So as it grows ya'll gonna get mixed emotions in the comment sections, I just wanted to say don't take it personal, it's just different views or maybe things people might feel they need to address.. Otherwise thank you guys 🙏 I have been watching all of you, the things you've been saying about us are really amazing, we see the love and we love ya'll right back.. Sorry for inconveniences or negatives you've experienced so far, because you'll get those too.. We wish the best for ya'll and only good things for you guys 🙏❤️... (sorry for writing a whole book 😂🙈)
Beautiful, Black Americans are the only Africans who are letting us know they coming to our country and even give us feedback!
The other Africans just arrived and created their own communities and called us all sorts of names, and even so vested in our politics!
You will love it to braai with Afrikaners too. We do a mean braai with good meat (chicken or fish too), tasty pap (we add salt 😊) and tomato smoor (or sheba, the word we use instead of chakalaka) but we use knives and forks when we eat 😊. But, we also will eat the last meat from the bone using our hands. We also add side dishes like corn bread, braai pie with spinach, garlic bread, pap-tert (a layered pap dish), pumpkin pie/fritters and salads to our braais. And nice red wine or beer. We usually braai over weekends but every day when we are camping (a popular activity).
ok ok ok now! It sounds good for sure! I'm down for the experience, we love all and can get along with all for sure!
Look at my sisters, love those ladies. ❤❤❤
It's quite easy to do so for sure!
You know we love you too!
@@THEJONESFAMILYCHANNEL too too easy. ❤️
@@DocNikiandCarla I know this for certain. ❤️❤️👑👑
@@THEJONESFAMILYCHANNEL this was a very entertaining episode 👏🏿 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🫱🏾🫲🏿
This interview blew my mind. I just wanna say the ladies are beautiful. May you bring them back next time. They are so natural and Africans indeed. I can't stop revisiting and watching this Video. Thank you so much young man. They are so amazing.
The fact is that blacks and white people don't bahave the same in S.A. I guess apartheid has made us to fear each other.
Because of segregation South African whites don't interact with a stranger the way our blacks do. So apartheid has tought white South Africans to be sceptical about engaging or striking a conversation with a stranger especially if he or she is black.
I being a male black South African I may especially when I am his or her customer talk Afrikaans and in that way he or she may have a little conversation with me. But with us black South Africans enjoy conversing with black strangers because we do enjoy that. That's why black South Africans are able to strike a conversation.
Again we were taught to respect others. You enter a taxi you must greet every one. Ask for a direction or need help, you must greet. If you don't it means you don't have manners and we have our own way to deal with such people.
i really LOVE African Americans, i have been following this channel and i can tell that u genuinely LOVE SA, I also love you hope to meet with you one day ..May GOD keep protecting you guy,
We love you so much my people i wish to meet you too all of you family❤❤❤❤Much love

Our favorite singer Big Sbuda, you also have to visit our Jones family.. It will be great to have that combo 👌

Shout out to you Big Sbuda. I see ya. 🤝🏼😊😉
Greetings from Philadelphia. Amazing video! I just wanted to apologize to Ricky who hasn’t tasted shisa nyama (braai). It’s one of the most important things you can do to learn the culture and vibe of South Africa. Ask your South African friends to take you to one & leave the chicken at home. We mostly eat boerewors & beef 😂😂😂.
oh my goodness. i loved your guests and the interview. the amazing energy and excitement. Seeing our beloved and beautiful diverse country experienced through their eyes. Keep them as guests please. Carla is calm and serene and Niki a ball of positive energy. Welcome home to South Africa ladies. We love you.
hahaha, great acknowledgment! They are quite awesome and I would love to have them again!

At least bi-weekly ❤
Woooow the fact that she tried mopani worms wooow, that's what we eat here in Venda, I'm proud of her, she reminds me of a friend of mine from Switzerland 🇨🇭 who loved mopani worms so much since he tasted them while he was here for 2 years
Oh wow which ones do you like
Ohhhh my goodness Nikki is South African, she fits everywhere. I enjoy every episode. I enjoy all your guests.

Congratulations on 30k subscribers. Joined your channel when you had just landed in SA and love your beautiful family. Thank you for promoting our beautiful country. We appreciate what you are doing!
Oh wow, thank you so much! Of course SA makes it easy to promote for sure!
Carla will enjoy watching rugby at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town...
I am Mexican American and my wife is African-American and we both immigrated to South Africa back in 2016. We had two children that were born here and our 10 year old came here with us. One thing I happen to say is living here in South Africa. my children is exposed to way more cultures, they are exposed to way more languages, and South Africa has a very good school system. Moving here was the best thing my family and I ever did. But the funny thing is when we go to the United States to visit relatives. They always laugh that we have two kids that have a South African accent, but our oldest child has an American accent😂
Welcome bro, I hope is not to late to welcome you and your beautiful family in our country
I'm super excited for this interview as well! I love these ladies❤❤
Yes indeed! Awesome Awesome Women!
Sanibonani Doc Nikki and Carla🎉
I'd recommend a trip further north up the west coast, to a restaurant called Boesmanland Plaaskombuis in a town called Langebaan, and also a restaurant called Muisbosskerm in a town called Lambertsbaai. You'll find some good seafood and other traditional SA foods there. And also Wolfgat in Paternoster. Really enjoying hearing your perspective on South Africa.
This was so much fun to watch. Great job, Ricky. Doc Nikki & Carla, I'm so glad to see you all enjoying your South Africa experience.
Thank you for these kind words!
My baby girls!! Love their humility and authenticity; they bounce off each another perfectly. I pray I am able to give all of you "your flowers" in person this year🙏🏽 #africa2024

Yes indeed and thank you. I thank them for allowing us into their world!
Oh my goodness!!! Shout out to Ricky and family on a great family channel, We're watching your channel from Ireland 🇮🇪🍀 Today's show was such a vibe, Welcome sisters. The energy and excitement coming off your guest was everything, absolutely amazing. Loved it. My husband and I are hooked on your show. I'm originally from Durban and my husband is from Soweto. Coming from Durban I only have good memories of Durban the beach, weather, food, culture, ppl and places even the shopping Malls. The beach temperature in Durban is always perfect👌Looking forward to our family Holiday this year especially to hangout at the new Oceans Shopping Mall in Umhlanga. The Oyster Box is another favorite hangout and their food is amazing. lreland is a different lifestyle but SA is a vibe it's alive and when I think of SA I think of it has HOME❤🏡 Missing the BUNNY CHOW🍞
If you want an authentic Tshisanyama you have to go to either Soweto, Tembisa or Alexandra townships.

Yes indeed!!!
Ricky, i can juxtapose the same anxiety waiting on my US Visa to attend college as well as the Euphoria when receiving the visa. Imagine that’s what most immigrants go through to make it to the ‘land of opportunity’. I find it humbling that you went through the process the other way round 20 years later.
I can see that for sure and yes well said

Bra Rickey you have not done much 🤣🤣🤣 Lesedi cultural village is a must!!
There is just so much to do in SA and very easy to miss everything if you are not up-to-date ...in your socials you have to follow ..SA tourism , Joburg tourism , Joburg in your pocket , 947 fm ..do some random research of whats going on ..since yall dont have tv 😁

Omg I thought I was the only one that starts dancing at the intro!! Issa bop for sure!😂
Lil baby in the middle, (Nikki...Vicki?) Had me CRYINNNNG laughing throughout the entire video!😂😂😂
On a serious note, when I was going for my Ghana visa I encountered something similar. They tell you that the officer cannot help you in the preparation...including copying or pri ting for you...you have to come with everything prepared and ready. It was perplexing. The tracker method is genius! Which tracker was used? A sticker tracker like Tile maybe?😮
😂 Issa a bop for sure!! My name is Niki. Carla just used the tracking on the package. I think it was USPS. It's a small fee to track your package.
Wow your Guest Wow period.

Just for clarification the pap, Chakalaka en meat food combo does not apply to all racial groups. That combo is mostly in the black race. Coloureds have a different food pallet when it comes to braai's and PAP is either poverty food, breakfast or optional for braai

South Africa needs to give African Americans citizenship if they choose to want to stay in SA if they want to stay.
The U.S would be alerted and that whole plan would be thwarted. If Ghana and Kenya have not done it yet; it’s because they are not allowed. Until the diaspora understands the obligation to return and unite as one with our brothers and sisters on the continent; the powers that be will continue to work in the background.
