Sonar 2087 is the Royal Navy’s name for the CAPTAS-4/UMS 4249 product from Thales and is the service’s primary ASW sensor. Thales bought the UK company and stuck their name over the door, Dutch radars and combat management systems were also bought by Thales. Globalization is often selective about who designed what and who should be honoured in the history books.
There are some aspects of Sonar 2087 that are not shared with other users though....so you can have CAPTAS-4....but you can't have the full Sonar 2087 setup...
It sounds like these are fairly expensive pieces of hardware with high end capability. It makes one wonder if there's a market for inexpensive towed variable depth sonar for applications like pairing with LUSVs.
Nice that we finally got some range numbers for the CAPTAS family of sonars. 👍
