Regarding the last question: I had a similar experience as a writer. The first time I got edits back I was all kinds of freaked out. After a while it was just OK, whatever, make the change.
Great video. Lots of good info. There's more to learning a craft than just learning how to use the equipment. Getting insight into the way the pros think about stuff is even more valuable.

The colour shift you see in players after Export is not always to do with Resolve. VLC, Quicktime etc use different colour management. The best player to match Resolve in colour is MPV player. I learned this after a lot of testing. Also Daria is so awesome. Great chat guys!

I spent hours reading about this and was still not sure what to do, hence me asking the question in chat. Luckily they saw the question and Daria answered it with all that great info. Now, why the hell is there no standard in 2022 for all devices / browsers / video players / projectors, to show color accurately? That's beyond me!

    • @RabbeSandelin
      @RabbeSandelin 2 года назад +1

@@benderocks788 Haha, yes - that's "color management" for you. I have been trying to get consistent color in the printing business since the 1990's, were of course one also has to deal with totally different color systems like RGB vs. CMYK, not just differing color models or profiles. Color is a very elusive thing…

She's really pretty and an excellent DaVinci Resolve Instructor. I'm working my way through her Introduction to Colour on the BlackMagicDesign course page.
I've switched back to the video tutorials because the supporting files download for the second PDF in the course (Editor). are a bit messed up, couldn't re-link media files, so working through the PDF's has all come to a grinding halt...

One thing I have never gotten to understand is when you specify the Apple Monitoring setting, does that only apply to an Apple Internal monitor like an imac or MBP or ANY monitor running as GUI from the Apple computer?

  • @dondouglas

I would like to bring another perspective on the reasons for getting a panel.
I do not think that having a panel is a strictly economic issue. I think the main thing is that it changes drastically and I say drastically from experience, the way of approaching work.
Once you have made the primary correction, the creative work is personal and intuitive and the panel is the interface between your creativity and the way you carry it out. Of course you need a knowledge of the tools and creating a workflow, but once you have it, to get the result you need the process to flow.
I have been working as a professional photographer for many years and once the technical aspect has been overcome, the only and most difficult question is: what do I want to achieve? Although there may be a debate between whether it is worth or justified to buy a panel, from the point of view of the result it is very different to work with the mouse or in full screen and "feel" the sensation that is obtained by manually managing each parameter and seeing how affects the result. Technically you can do the same thing with the mouse, but the same execution dynamics will give a different result.
At the beginning of the pandemic, with no chance to go out and take photos, I bought a DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel. I didn't have much experience with DVR at the time but right out of the box and knowing what I wanted to get I just had to get familiar with the controls and immediately got to work. It's not because it's particularly smart, but because like the Apple ecosystem it's very intuitive and there are no surprises, everything works exactly as you'd expect.
While I was waiting for it to be sent, I read a lot, exceptionally because I don't like manuals, but in this case it is necessary because it is very specific information. I looked and read all the work I found from Daria and she was decisive in committing "that economic madness".
Today with several projects completed -I'm still learning- I couldn't be happier with my decision because the color "was always there and you just had to get it out ".
Daria is the best thing that has happened to Blackmagic, she's magical and that magic is the combination between that solid and forceful knowledge, that didactic capacity and that humility with which he expresses himself.
Sorry for the length of the text and thank you Casey for sharing this video.

Thanks for doing this. Daria is always so cool.
The panel tip is so true. I just wished Blackmagic would come out with a panel that was between the Mini and Advanced in size (and price). With support for HDR wheels (maybe 5 wheels) and maybe also for the Warper and other new functionality in DV.

If you're reading this Daria, and you're not tired of the compliments yet, I have to say I admire you:)
At the same time I would like to ask you, since you are in contact with BM and nobody listens to me,
I have some tips to fix the flaws in Resolve.
    1. After auto-syncing audio and video, the audio acts like it is part of the video, which results in the AAF export for ProTools using the audio from the video, not the external audio.
    2. In the Color page - If I animate any feature, it is not possible to copy and paste or reorder keyframes.
There are bugs in the Edit page with Positioning image keyframes. The function switches to ease, but the curve stays linear. It would be good to have a separate window just for keyframes.
    3. It would be nice if Color Warper worked in Enhanced View and Cinema (Fullscreen) view.
It would also be nice if holding the function key (ctr, alt, shift) would control the luma.
Thanks a lot and good luck:)

    Hi Daria, hi Casey,
    I have BMPCC4k RAW trouble.
I bought my BMPCC4K with firmware 6.9.1 and edit in Resolve 15 studio / OSX 10.11 because my old Mac Pros 4,1 and 5,1 don't really run higher versions.
BM RAW recorded on SD cards was running fine in Resolve 15.
Resolve 14 did not recognise any BM RAW files of BMPCC firmware 6.9.1
I then bought a Samsung T7 usb-c drive to be able to record 3:1 bitrates in raw in the BMPCC4K.
In order for BMPCC4K to properly recognize and record on the Samsung T7 drive I had to upgrade the camera firmware to 7.3.
Below that 7.3 firmwareversion the T7 would only record low resolutions like a cheap SD card.
Now Resolve 15 does not see my raw files anymore although I can play them on the camera.
What exactly is going on here and how can I solve the problem? Does the BMPCC4K produce different incompatible BM RAW files with different firmware versions?!
On the BM website I could not find anything about any compatibility issues.
What would be the ideal software version setup with my Mac Pros 4.1 /5.1 running various OSX systems 8.5 to 10.11?
I have a lot of legacy software that I still use, e.g. FCP 7 etc. Concerning BMPCC4K and resolves different versions, what is working with what? Is there a chart or a table outlining that?
Possibly I could run OSX 10.12 but even zhat runs only Resolve 16. BMPCC4K firmware 7.3 BM-RAW files are also not recognized there.
I am producing high end table top food advertising at the very moment so highest possible image quality is of the essence.
    Greetings from Berlin Germany
