Wat een verademing, een Nederlander die alles goed uitspreekt, verbetert en begrijpt. Ik vind het leuk om reacties te zien van mensen op visite in Nederland maar soms wel met kromme tenen. What a relief a Dutchman who pronounces everything correctly and understands everything like a Dutchman. I like to see reactions from people visiting The Netherlands but sometimes my skin crawls with incorrect pronunciation or false facts.
@@msterdam I've watched a few of his videos. Fun fact: He once almost started a War with the Dutch because he rated Dutch breakfast extremely low. But he also chose the most basic kids version of Dutch breakfast A.K.A Hagelsag on white bread.
They did a good food tour for visiting only one day. I wasn’t able to try a Suriname roti or pancakes when I was in Amsterdam last year. I will next time!
I hear a lot of criticism of Dutch food and I cannot understand where it comes from at all. Every time I'm there the food is always amazing. I guess you just have to make sure you stay away from the neon signs on damrak, leidseplein etc A febo stop is a necessity every time 👌
There's a difference between having food when you're in The Netherlands vs actual Dutch cuisine. For example even though the fastfood dish Kapsalon is a Dutch invented dish it is still inspired by other cultures and flavors. As for Dutch cuisine it has a reputation of being bland, lacking taste, creativity and originality which is true. I was born, raised and have been living in The Netherlands for 34 years now and Dutch cuisine is easily some of my least favorite food. But there's a reason for this. Currently our tiny little country is the 2nd biggest exporter of food in the world. National Geographic once said ''This tiny country could feed the world'' and that's true. But our country lost our adventure for food flavors ages ago in favor of efficiency and young women were sent to special schools earlier in the 20th century ( my mom went there ) to learn how to cook fast, simple and cheap. Experimenting with flavors was seen as pointless and a waste of time. I love my mom and while I learned the basics of cooking from her when it comes down to flavors I thought myself by watching others. She was always very basic with flavor. A little bit of salt and a little bit of pepper and not even the good kind. Me on the other hand I once bought an entire stock of different herbs and spices simply to experiment with flavor. For example we often eat something called Duitse Biefstuk ( translated to German Steak ) which is basically ground beef shaped into a thick patty. Years ago when my Mom prepaded it she's simply add salt and pepper and call it a day. It feeds you but it doesn't make you happy because the taste is simple and bland. These days when I'm making it. I season it with sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder and sometimes also Paprika powder. Besides that I also butter baste it and often add some thyme while doing so. The end product has flavor, texture and is extremely juicy. My Mom wouldn't admit it but she loves my cooking. So anyway. This comment might have been a bit to long but yeah the majority of dutch cuisine is nothing to write home about.
Okay the100guy, I agree that the snacks and pancakes are amazing. But Carlos yes indeed, it's mostly just snacks, cookies, snacks snacks snacks. And of course a few of the old school Dutch mashed potato dishes like andijviestamppot. The Dutch kitchen is quite small. Whenever tourists ask me about the Dutch kitchen, this is my reply haha. Anyways, what a reply you wrote Carlos! Good story, and I see you really know your thing about cooking food (well at least when it comes to Duitste Biefstuk!). I do have 1 question though, after reading it, at the end you write "my mom wouldn't admit it but she loves my cooking". Why wouldn't she admit it?
@@msterdam Well if you're Dutch like me then you'd know that the Dutch are extremely stubborn. I'm only 50% Dutch in terms of ethnicity so maybe that makes me less stubborn. But as for my mom she's oldskool. And it isn't as if she insults my cooking. If I ask her if she likes it she'll say yes. But to openly state that she loves my cooking would be to much for her because she doesn't enjoy admitting that she's wrong about Dutch cuisine and my mom loves Dutch cuisine.
Try it out before it's winter!! It doesn't take any time at all. Just on your way to work or home. One of those fishstands like for example at Spui next to the Waterstones bookstore.
Need to add flavourless Febo to the food bingo, also although not typical Dutch food they would have been better off going to Food Hallen, also kroket is just an inferior no flavour strange shaped Irish/Welsh rissole.
⚡QUESTION: What's you favorite Dutch street food? I'll go for patatje oorlog! (patatje oorlog = fries war. mayo, satay sauce and chopped onion)
Kapsalon with Pasta instead of fries.
I was really attentive but just cracked up laughing when you went, "that's not a pigeon..???" 🤣
I did the same
Ye I don't know how the pigeons look like where he's from, but it can't be this😄
Im glad you mentioned Roti. I told my husband when we go to Amsterdam we can have Roti. A very staple dish where we're from in the Caribbean.

Haha dankjewel!! Heel fijn om te horen😇🙂
Just found your Instagram. I love it. A dose of Amsterdam all the time.
Enjoyed that once again brother 😁
Thanks Roy! Glad to hear that😁
Kwook is actually a RUclips chef as far as I'm aware and even though he isn't Dutch he does live here.
Ohh thanks for the info! I thought he was just visiting. You're watching Kwoowk?

Maybe not “food”, but why not feature Dutch chocolates? Incredible!

Yep Foodhallen indeed, good spot. Alright yes! I'll work on a foodbingo and add FEBO to the list! (and Foodhallen I guess)
