Trinh Nguyễn ikr and she still has A LOT of singing parts and high notes after that dance break .. her stamina is really strong 👍🏻 she honestly has always been stable while maintaining her powerful dance throughout the song

Their first live performances of Umpah Umpah are at YHY's Sketchbook and at Soribada Music Awards. The girls are slaying the choreography and their live vocals are amazing. Confidence looks great on red velvet and I'm so proud of them.
@Foxglove I don't think they had 100% backing track at any point during this performance, and I think they very rarely do in general. The track was quite high during the opening part of the chorus, but that is when it was at its highest during this performance, unless I missed something, and it's not anywhere close to 100%. So plenty of strong live vocals coming through.
@Foxglove I don't think I did misunderstand you, considering you just reiterated what I had just said. The important distinction to make that some may be unaware of is that 'lipsyncing' is only at 100% backing track since that is when there are no live vocals coming out at all.
@Foxglove Well, the point is, in theory, to sing live at all times except when you specifically request the backing track be at 100% for whatever reason. It is of course not always used like this in practicality, as there may be incidents of not singing live without 100% backing, but this isn't supposed to be done as it will obviously sound off - clearly not live, but clearly too quiet. An example of how that sounds can be found in BTS's Mic Drop performance on SNL, for instance - it's so prominent, it's easily noticed. And generally speaking, if this does happen during a performance, it isn't intended - if the singer knows they can't sing a certain part live for whatever reason, they are supposed to get the track set to 100% for that section. Not doing so is either a mistake from the singer or an oversight from the production team, 95% of the time. I just wanted to highlight what the actual intended meaning of lip syncing is in this context, since for many it can be construed as a dirty word or a criticism. Red Velvet tend to boost their backing tracks for the 'drops' into choruses that often coincide with more acrobatic choreo, particularly choreo that involves moving their arms up above their heads or in front of their faces. I'll endeavour to ask a producer or sound engineer when I next get the chance to see if they can reveal the average % they tend to use...

I really love how well Joy can embody both the red and velvet concepts. She's really giving us that refreshing summer concept. 콘서트 가서 본 실물과 들은 라이브는 이 영상과는 비교할 수 없을 정도로 예뻤고,노래도 잘하고 힘도 좋았어요.콘서트 거의 맨 앞줄이라 멤버들이 잘 보였는데 정말 모든 멤버가 예쁘고 비율도 좋더라구요.입도 안다물어질 정도로 예뻤어요ㅠㅠ몇몇 멤버들이 실물 깡패다라는 말을 듣고 갔었는데 그런거 없고 그냥 모든 멤버들이 화면보다 실물이 훨씬 예뻐요.비율도 훨씬 좋아보이고 특히 얼굴이 진짜 주먹만하더라구요ㅠ
외관적인 부분뿐만 아니라 노래,퍼포먼스도 보기 좋았던 점이 멤버분들의 에너지가 팬들에게 고스란히 전해져서 콘서트 분위기도 뜨거웠어요.특히 짐살라빔은 콘서트에서 들어야 제맛이다라는 생각이 들 정도로 언니들은 라이브도.퍼포먼스도 모두 완벽했어요.레드벨벳이 대형 기획사에서 나왔다는 이유로 필요 없는 말들을 듣곤 하는데 그냥 레드벨벳은 노래도 춤도 잘하더라구요❤🧡💚💙💜

@Foxglove I don't think they had 100% backing track at any point during this performance, and I think they very rarely do in general. The track was quite high during the opening part of the chorus, but that is when it was at its highest during this performance, unless I missed something, and it's not anywhere close to 100%. So plenty of strong live vocals coming through.
@Foxglove I don't think I did misunderstand you, considering you just reiterated what I had just said. The important distinction to make that some may be unaware of is that 'lipsyncing' is only at 100% backing track since that is when there are no live vocals coming out at all.
@Foxglove Well, the point is, in theory, to sing live at all times except when you specifically request the backing track be at 100% for whatever reason. It is of course not always used like this in practicality, as there may be incidents of not singing live without 100% backing, but this isn't supposed to be done as it will obviously sound off - clearly not live, but clearly too quiet. An example of how that sounds can be found in BTS's Mic Drop performance on SNL, for instance - it's so prominent, it's easily noticed. And generally speaking, if this does happen during a performance, it isn't intended - if the singer knows they can't sing a certain part live for whatever reason, they are supposed to get the track set to 100% for that section. Not doing so is either a mistake from the singer or an oversight from the production team, 95% of the time.
I just wanted to highlight what the actual intended meaning of lip syncing is in this context, since for many it can be construed as a dirty word or a criticism. Red Velvet tend to boost their backing tracks for the 'drops' into choruses that often coincide with more acrobatic choreo, particularly choreo that involves moving their arms up above their heads or in front of their faces. I'll endeavour to ask a producer or sound engineer when I next get the chance to see if they can reveal the average % they tend to use...

I really love how well Joy can embody both the red and velvet concepts. She's really giving us that refreshing summer concept.
