GoPro Hero5 Black SuperView Stabilization - Mountain Bike Downhill Bikepark Leogang

- This video is shot with the Go Pro Hero5 Black at 2K7@30fps with SuperView and digital video stabilization. The video is realtime but with SuperView it looks so much faster.
What is SuperView:
The camera takes a 4:3 image and spreads the left and right parts of the image to get 16:9. The center keeps unchanged. Thus it's somewhat super wide and looks so fast. The edges are quite distorted.
I wanted to try this mode together with video stabilization. With digital video stabilization of the GoPro Hero5 you loose lines and rows at the edges because the camera adjusts the image it writes to the SD card within the image it captures with the sensor. On my last video where I tried to stabilize with the 2.7K 16:9 Wide mode the vertical view was a bit too small. So I wanted to try it with this 4:3 mode. Here the vertical view is much larger. But I think the Superview mode is nothing for everyday use.
When I first saw these clips the seemed quite unnatural for me and very fast. But after I saw them a couple of times during editing it seems I got used to them. They did not look that fast and distorted to me than they did at the beginning.
Watch in 1440p!
Location
It was a run at the Bikepark Leogang in Austria. It's the downhill track "Speedster" where also the Mountain Bike World Cup races take place. At the World Cup the start is a little different. I did not ride this track very often (some features even for the first time this day). So there is plenty of room for improvement ;)

That was expert riding!!!
I'd try this if I could just respawn after dying, cuz who knows how many times I need to die before I complete the track.
Can you respawn where you died, or do you have to start over every time? LOL
It actually looks like how you would and do see it. That SuperView captures the adrenaline rush that we experience. And of course, you're a damn good rider.
I don't think it's superview making it look fast. It's just you're gunning it. Nice
This track is a suicide trap! And you'r a god damn robot! Just wow :O
hero 5 is still rockin
Tenho que admitir. Muita coragem...
Bela filmagem.
Boas pedaladas!
thanks to gopro for inventing stabilization for this kind of videos to look addictive and pleasant to our vision
lol what do you mean ``inventing``?
go pro didnt invent video stabilization bruh
well you're right, not inventing. innovating their product is the better word
Allen Gopro more like implementing
Go pros are pretty darn smooth. Look at how smooth the footage is at that speed theres no skipping or hickups in the frames and just looks really good to me. Most smartphones loose frames when going that fast as do cameras. Even dslrs cant do what go pros do. If you want action get a go pro and this camera is nice and smooth. REally amazing.
Great test for the stabilisation! The camera handled it so well! nice riding too!
That footage looks quite astonishing. Nice work
Really exciting video to watch, the GoPro stabilisation is fantastic!
Superview or not, this was FAST. Amazing riding, Congratulations!
damn, that is intense.
another great video with good quality! i like your uploads
holy shit .. that was sick man..
That was super cool!
Very awesome video!
you are insane. great riding man.
Looks pretty good. I just wish my laptop could load videos past 1080p. And also I always think of Claudio Caluoris commentary on this track.haha
that's the first video that seems the stabilization works fine!!!
No gimbal???? Looks really smooth
I really enjoyed watching keep up the awesome vids!!!!
Looks phenomenal!
fuuucck.... that was sick
Amazing footage!
I was thinking of getting the gopro 5. I think I might now.
Now you look like a pro ;D
That also came to my mind. The Pro's video often look that fast just with Wide view - and often much more scary as they ride difficult sections much faster and jump much wider. Yeah, the fastest ones are about 30% faster than me - depending on the section of course and the weather conditions.
Well done!
I think it's better for me than the 7 silver since this has superview wich makes it look better
with stabilization its much better, you can feel the flow of the bike and the biker
sooooooooooo smooooth
Looks great!
Looks like I need one of these
That's awesome. Keep uploading.
Wie immer, Hammer! Thx for recording :)
It looks really great! It was used an external camera stabilizer? Something like karma grip or other 3axis gimbal?
Thanks! No, I just use a quite stable mount (see description) and digital video stabilization that the new GoPro Hero5 has built in.
Nice Park
Really nice!
it's a shame my session 4 isn't as good. The quality of this video is awesome.
Did you use pro tune or just the colors straight out of the camera?
Sal marius
Salut
Ei bine helo lol
Awesome ride !
Kannst echt gut fahren. Respekt !
Danke!
So good! I love the line and your bike's cockpit looks awesome too
Suomi perkele
looks amazing. did you do much touching up in post? the colors and detail is fantastic. Can't wait to get my hero 5 on Monday!
I just opened the project. I did not do anything in post. The light was just right for this run. At a couple of other runs the sun was not covered by clouds. Then you have the typical issues when riding from bright areas to dark and vice versa.
hello very good video, I would like to ask you a question to make this video with the hero 5, did you use gimbal? Thank you
Thank you! No I did not use a gimbal. Only the built in stabilization.
Shredding so hard!
This looks so amazing!!
Great... Now I want a GoPro... Haha.
3:46 Dude how are you even able to control the bike at those speeds so precisely
First I have to say that in the video the speed does not look like as it feels when riding. Usually it looks slower in the video as it feels. But the SuperView mode of the GoPro creates a 16:9 image out of a wide angle 4:3 image. The result looks really fast. On some passages I would say faster as it feels when you ride. And I think 3:46 is such a passage. There are a couple of rocks in this section. They are clearly recognizable and increase the fast impression. But actually there is a line where you do not hit the stones. If you have found it you can ride very fast here. But you should not get off this line.
Awesome!
would try to do this tnx.
WoooW !!!! :))
Epic!
WOW
WoW
got gimbal mounten? or just the cam stab itself?
where did you put the camera? On your head or in your body? Thanks and good video.
I mounted it on my Leatt Brace (a neck brace). See also video description.
echte klasse
Wow, super ride. Video looks awesome. Settings seemed just right. You are an awesome rider, nice jumps and lines. BTW what would the lift pass for this cost per day in USD?
Leogang is one of the most expensive parks here. A ticket for one day is 37 EUR. Bike park day tickets vary here from about 28 to 40 Euros. That's 30 to 44 USD. But we also have a season ticket for most of the big parks in and around Austria (including parks in Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary - a total of 14) for 415 Euro. That's about 450 USD. The card is called "Gravity Card". You may also check websites for parks in Canada BC like Whistler Bike Park, Silverstar Bike Park, ... and there are surely a lot in the USA too.
Grizzly510 yep... prizes are 1 day uphill tickets. prizing in france (porte de soleil) is even lower e.g 7 day ticket ~€100,-
Yes it does. In most of the parks you only pay for the uplift pass. There are some few where the bike park owner and the lift owner did not find an agreement. But in Austria most of the parks are operated by the lift companies themselves. There are even tourist regions where you get a day pass for free or much cheaper if you stay overnight at certain (or even any) hotel or bed&breakfast in the village. But usually these are the regions for trail riding and not "classic" bike parks (but often with dedicated bike trails).
Crazy as hell...this is kamikaze...!Very,very dangerous...be carefull...dude.. ;)
My friend have you mounted the camera on the chest , with gopro's chest mount? Nice video by the way .
Thanks! When riding my trail (Enduro) bike I also use the chest mount. But when riding downhill I mount it on my neck brace (Leatt Brace).
Thank's !!!!!!!!
I would sooo love to do that, what a Rrrush, lol...
echt gut !
cooooool
Nice video. There's no gimbal used?
No, I just use the electronic image stabilization of the GoPro
@@DownhillRangers Amazing Brother! I love the output. Thank you so much.
Is the go pro hero 5 durable when it comes to falls?
+Sushidestroyer33 They say so. The outer layer is rubber or rubber-like. The lense is replaceable.
Hell yeah! \m/
Hi, for MTB is better hero session 5 or hero 5 black? Because the battery life of 5 black is longer but I don't know about the stabilizer. Can you give me any advise? Thanks very much
5 black. Battery on Ses 5 is not replacable.
did you buy and use the extra case for the gopro hero 5 black?
No, why should I? The extra case is only necessary if you want to dive deeper than 10 m.
So you had no worries crashing the cam when you fall?
No, the Hero5 looks and feels quite durable. With the extra housing I assume it would be quite heavy - not good if you use it with the chest mount. (Here I have mounted it on my Leatt Brace - a neck brace. But when I ride enduro I use the chesty.)
Ok thanks for yout quick answere! Nice Video BTW!
Du gibst ja Gas, alle Ehre! Zufrieden mit der GoPro 5? Werde mir demnächst auch eine holen! :-)
Danke!
awesome video! did you use protune? and if so which setting did you use?
I think I did not use pro tune for this video. Later I used it but I regret it because the Hero5 had or has a bug if you use Flat Color with Pro Tune. Currently I use protune but just to get a higher bitrate and I often adjust the exposure (-0.5 oder -1.0) depending on the sunlight. I also use Low sharpening.
I like it
Great quality footage! What software are you editing with and what are your project and render settings?
Thank you! I'm editing with Premiere Pro CC. Usually I keep the output settings like the settings of the video. So same resolution and fps. Usually 60 fps, this video only 30 fps because the 2.7K SuperView mode of the GoPro only supports 30 fps. I use about the same bit rate as the original video from the GoPro. So 45 MBit/s for this video and I think even 60 MBit/s for 2.7K @ 60fps. I use 2-pass enncoding. The encoded videos are really big (2.4 GB for this video). But as you see RUclips allows this (maybe there is a limit when you start with your channel?) It seems like the quality on RUclips is really good if you have footage for 1440p. Much better than only 1080p. RUclips reduces the 2.7K footage of the GoPro to 1440p. As I do not have the latest GPU I do not yet rescale the footage to 1440p by myself.
Thanks for that quick reply...yip RUclips doesn't always help to make videos look good but seems you've hit the sweet spot with those settings. I have used Sony Vegas in the past and just upgraded to V14 and struggling a bit with rendering. 2 pass will be way too long for me. I also use Handbrake to reduce file size and found it works OK due to RUclips's treatment of files.
Using your neck brace is unusual....would love to see how you've mounted your GP.....I use an Omega and never thought to mount on it. I have been using a Zhiyun Rider M on a chesty or helmet mount but now with GP5 stabilization, I'm keen to see how it performs with and without the gimbal!
I started chest mount videos before the Chesty even existed. And when it came I often saw shaky video. So I stayed with my Leatt Brace mount. When I'm riding on my enduro bike I also use the chesty but I have troubles with shaking there (have to pull the straps really tight).
Great video. Excellent quality!
Great
Deine Federung muss dann doch auch irgendwann abkacken! 😂
Dude, how i get this stabilization? I have hero5 too, and in XC trails i only get shaky images, how u get this quality? Whats ur chest mount?
With the downhill bike I always rode with an old Leatt Brace (a neck brace). And I mounted the Gopro there. This was really stable. With the enduro bike I use the regular (old) chest mount. But also a backpack. And I tightened the chest strap of the backpack very firmly such that it additionally helped to reduce the shaking. But overall the stabilization got a lot better with the Hero 7. (I don't have 8 to 10 because they don't have features which actually help when using them as action cams. And they are heavier).
@@DownhillRangers thanks bro. I will try to tight harder my chest mount, maybe could br it. And, what u mean about gopro 8 to 10 thst they dont have features to use like an action cam? I bought a hero9 last week..
Subscribed 😝🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks. If I did not have a Hero7 I propably would also go for a newer one. But when I looked briefly in the newer cameras I did not see a feature which would improve my videos significantly. And as I remeber the newer ones are even heavier which usually increases shaking.
@@DownhillRangers nice. Thanks for ur tips! Will keep watching u! Thumbs up from Brazil 🤟🏻
so there is not gamble this is straight up go pro with chesty mount?
Right from the GoPro Hero5. FOV: SuperView. Digital Video Stabilization (Hero5 built in). Actually not the chesty mount. I mount it directly to my Leatt Brace (neck brace). Over the winter I will make a video about my mounting options.
awesome thank you
i would have so done the big jump
so let me get this straight. you used gopro's optical stabiliser and then you made some post production using digital stabiliser?
thank you
No, the GoPro has no optical stabilization. It has a digital stabilization. It just crops some parts of the image on the sensor. This is pure Hero5-digital video stabilization without any post-stabilization.
Downhill Rangers i cant believe it. you are right! i was ready to sell my hero 4 black just to get 5 for an optical stabilisation that does not exist!
Nice, and then same route back uphill.
do you use like a axis stabilizer like something that holds the gopro or no?
No it's just the digital video stabilization what the GoPro Hero5 offers.
Downhill Rangers That's INSANE, the video is so smooth
awesome.. what is your audio settings? wind only or stereo only?
I'm using an external microphone. For mountain biking the wind noise reduction does not work good enough. And it is almost not possible to fit some fur on the mics like it worked fine on the GoPro Hero 4
@@DownhillRangers which external mic do you use ?
I use an Edutige microphone. I can't remember right now which one exactly, but one that is compatible with the GoPro mic adapter. I also use a small 'dead cat' on it
Das ist das 2014er V10 in 26 zoll oder?
Nein, das ist noch ein 2012er. Carbon Hauptrahmen, Alu-Hinterbau.
what kind of mount device do you use?chesty?
Here in this video I've mounted it on my Leatt Brace (neck brace). It's usually a bit more stable as with the GoPro chesty.
I've added a short description about the mount and links how these neck braces look like.
can I live there??
hey guys so should I put my gopro on my chest ? or top of my helmet?
It's always a matter of personal preference. In my opinion if mounted on the chest you get a better impression of the track. You see how one has to work with the arms. On the camera it always looks less steep, steps not so high etc. In my opinion with the chest mounted camera you get a bit more of the reality. Also if the camera is positioned nearer to fixed objects it looks faster. Usually the nearest fixed object is the ground. If mounted on the helmet its farther away from the ground and looks slower - except if there are trees or something else very close. Mounting on the helmet usually gives you a more stable video and I think it's good if you follow somebody else and want to concentrate on the rider before you. There are some difficulties with the chest mounted option: The chest mount may not be stable enough. And the angle of the camera is very important. I do not like it if half of the video is just your bike. And the view also depends how big you are (length of your arms e.g.)
Is it worth spending the extra money and getting this over the hero 4 silver?
get a silver and a gimbal for same money , footage will be even smoother
I will test a gimbal soon. Actually I saw gimbal videos where I though that it's almost too much smoothness. The action got lost a bit. And a gimbal is surely more complicate to handle in everyday use. But I'll see hopefully soon.
Yeah ive seen a few that make the footage too floaty especially when helmet mounted, chest mounted with the handlebars in view for a point of reference is a much better view and helps with the action.
hello bro can i get some advice on what setting to achieve this like wb= iso= shutter= thanks bro
This is 5 years ago with a GoPro Hero5. Usually I use ProTune but keep the most settings to Auto. Currently with the GoPro Hero7 I have Shutter and WB on Auto. EV Comp -0.5 (dependent on how sunny or cloudy it is). ISO 100-1600 (I think I never changed that). I had issues with the WB with the Hero5 (gray was not gray but either magenta or cyan) So I rather switched to Auto. Sharpness Low. Color: GoPro.
thank you bro ill try this settings now hopefully it will works for me or i will switch to hero 7
Where did you mount this?
In mounted it on my Leatt Brace (a Neck Brace). See video description.
hello what is your softweer ? for the gopro
Software? For editing I use Premiere Pro CC.
is the gopro hero 5 session or black?
Black
You using gimball or not?
No, just the built in electronic image stabilization. But it's now even better in the Hero 7, 8, 9
@@DownhillRangers yea, i know its better but i just dont have money for new one, and i dont use go pro too much so i dont need it.
@@DownhillRangers wait is the hero 5s stabilization better? i was about to buy the new gopro because of the stabilization but if I can stick with my hero 5 that would be awesome e
@@spookizoid7726 I do not have experience with Hero 8, 9 or 10. But the stabilization of the Hero 7 is noticeable better than that of the Hero 5.
Sorry, I was logged in with my personal account. So I had the Hero 5 and Hero 7 and especially the stabilization of the Hero 7 is much better than that of the Hero 5.
have you done any color corection?
I looked at the old project and it seems like I did not. The GoPro Hero 5 had a bug with white or gray colors when using some Protune settings. neutral Gray or white was not neutral but either a bit cyan or a bit magenta. So parts of the video (e.g. the track) often suddenly switched from cyan to magenta instead of a smooth transition.
what's the price ?
Look at gopro.com. 430 EUR or I think 400 USD.
