@@HenryWayat I feel like Hitchcock is too good for games about him. I just wish all of his movies would at least be on DVD. There are so many you still can't find from more than 50 years ago. The Birds, Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, North By Northwest seem to be the only gimmes for available in current playable media because they are the most popular. I wish more of them could be accessible. The man is a genius.

@@junoantaresofficial This is true. The original series from The Secret of the Old Clock to the The Thirteenth Pearl gets a new edit every so many years. It's become a thing that you can buy the original edit of some Nancy Drew books because it's written entirely differently with 1930s language. I've only read The Hidden Staircase in the original edit and only the original edit but it's a lot different and better than the highlighter yellow ones we have currently. There are numerous series that have Nancy Drew in them but only the original 50 some have the true spirit for books. My personal favorites are Password to Larkspur Lane, Nancy's Mysterious Letter, The Ringmaster's Secret, Sign of the Twisted Candles, and The Crooked Banister.

The big 75 on the trains at 1:15:55 is actually a reference to the fact that this game was created to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Nancy Drew franchise. That's why it's the only instance of time travel in the games as well. The first book was released in 1930 (and was also called Secret of the Old Clock) and this game came out in 2005. Now we're only 8 years away from ND's 100 year anniversary. Time sure does fly!

Hehehe, time for the traditional "Lizzie talks about Nancy Drew too much" comment! :D
    - So apparently the voice for Emily was also the voice of Takae in Shadow at the Water's Edge. She'll pop up again in the New Orleans one. And Jane was voiced by the same lady as Ethel the creepy tutor in Blackmoor Manor.
    - Jane the game-obsessed child was the one who burned up the kitchen of Blackmoor Manor. Weird to have two games in a row with a character named Jane and a destroyed kitchen.
    - The newspaper that has the symbols has other articles about things that were happening around that time, although the dates are a little off for the missing Supreme Court guy.
    - "Hypers" was something George said in the books sometimes. :)
    - The Rubiyat book on Emily's bed is the book that was involved in the Somerton Man unsolved mystery case. Not really relevant to the game, but interesting tidbit of trivia.
    - The horse in Josiah's house is indeed a Kessler! :D
    - The answers to the logic puzzles Topham gives you are sprinkled into conversations throughout the game as a hint.
    - There's a secret on the fourth hole in the golf game. You can hit the ball to the right of the starting zone to get a shortcut. (And the part where the golf ball goes on a mine cart ride is totally foreshadowing for the train game you'll do next, hehe.)
    - The pony toy you win from minigolf is the same model as Bob. And if you play repeatedly, you can win a few different colors of plastic Bobs!
    - Jim Archer has TikTok e-girl blush. Not a trivia fact, just an observation.
    - The telegrams will never give you any actual money tips. (I'll put a bunch of stuff about the telegrams at the bottom of this massive comment!)
    - You probably recognized the song you can play in Emily's room as Brigitte's Ballad from Blackmoor Manor. Cute little throwback! (And I'm sure when you played the other record, Em was just sitting there like, ".....uh, maybe I should ask this lady to go home now" haha)
    - Hit The Road Jack is from 1962, so it was after this game took place.
    - One time when I visited the Her Interactive office, I brought them cupcakes decorated to look like the pies in this game! There were regular ones and also mini cupcakes, to satisfy the very specific orders. :D
    - The senior mode version of Topham's "telepathy" game is stupidly hard. There are twice as many sentence options.
    - If you snoop right near Topham's desk, you can accidentally knock over a vase or something and if you don't catch it, you get caught. On his calendar, you can see he had a meeting with Mr. Archer that morning.
    - So Josiah liked to dress in drag, he was a theater nerd, and he let Topham straight-up move in with him to teach him brain magic. Iiiinteresting..
    - "Jane" was the rude, snoopy lady that actual Jane mentioned in that letter that had mustard on it. I didn't quite put that together when I played this as a kid.
    - If you don't have enough money to pay Zippy, you end up having to sort bolts and washers and stuff for him.
    Now, about the telegrams:
    - Someone posted a video not too long ago of delivering *all* of the telegrams until they started to repeat. Dedication!
    - There are lots of little references and jokes in the names of the people getting telegrams - there's a nod to Little Shop of Horrors, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm was an old Shirley Temple movie, and old farmer Johnson's second "tip" to you is, "When you have the wand and you're trying to light the forge, go down the slide."
    - The dairy guy continues trying to tip you in dairy products. Nancy does eventually agree to some ice cream but he drops it. Womp womp.
    - Bringing a telegram to Zippy gives you a short convo about how the Zippy's slogan is ridiculous but it was his mom's idea so he still uses it. (If I'm remembering that correctly, at least.)
    - The observatory guys breaking their telescope's lens makes me laugh every time.
    - Counselor Jason at the camp maaaay have murdered the other camp counselors. o_O

My great grandmother, who only recently passed away, rest her, probably learned to drive in 1935, more or less. Her mother worked as a mechanic during WWII and because she was such an independent motorhead she taught her girls to drive as soon as she could, and grandma didn't stop driving for decades. Grandma was the driver in her marriage, because while her husband may have been a brilliant engineer he was somehow illiterate at the same time, so he couldn't read the signs. She was the navigator and drove all over the country before the turn of the century. So yes, women in America have been driving for a while.

The first woman to drive was still a few years ahead then needed but yes, when it comes to driving, women weren't exactly not allowed in the US. They must have been seen as worse drivers than men, as people still do, but they weren't stopped from driving. Unlike, Saudi Arabia which I just read gave women the right to drive in 2019.

    • @Fablevill
      @Fablevill 2 года назад +2

@@Shilpa_Kujur I think it was just more of a cultural norm for ladies to stay at home and not leave their homes without their husbands/brothers/fathers/sons and so a lady driving herself around might have just been seen as circumstantial anomaly. But I SA I believe women still need a male escort or something like that to leave their house, so the whole driving thing is kind of negated by everything else.

Sometimes Nancy Drew games feel like the ending is cut really short. This is definitely one of them. I guess it's not like it doesn't make sense - things do get explained in the letter or postcard at the end, but it's still always quite abrupt for certain games. Oh well.

Fun fact, women in America have been driving for a long time. women have been allowed to drive cars since the 19th century. , Driving, Motorcycling, Cycling, or Walking since 1980. If you count teams of horses, American women have been driving for as long as America has been around, July 4, 1776, roughly speaking. However women were still mostly chauffeured in the 1930, that didn’t mean they couldn’t drive, just give a hell of a shock to the people working at the gas/service station.

We should have guessed it was this woman tbh. She doesn't know her best friend's middle name, she is adamant she can't sew and is hopeless at it and won't even show us, is bad at organising pies, tells the police and us that our friend is losing her marbles due to stress. I bet she constantly tellls us to go upstairs and talk to her, while she went down the underground path to eavesdrop.

A universal experience for everyone I've played this game with is being total garbage at the mini golf, so I was shocked and awed by your skill. You are always impressively good at Nancy games but that was a stand out moment. Love your videos as always!!!

Evelien, just wanted to say thank you so much for playing all these Nancy Drew games. I have always appreciated their chill vibes but I had so many I hadn't seen that with Old Clock coming out on your channel, I decided to put the Playlist on from where I left off. I've gotten into cross stitching as something I can do as a chronically ill person and have made Luna from Sailor Moon and Totoro while listening to Nancy. They're for a friend. Thank you.

WAIT, I just realized something... I think the "Keen" references are a reference to Carolyn Keene, A.K.A the alias of the author of the Nancy Drew books! How did I not realize this as a kid when I played this game several times? xD

The cat’s name Yuri is a reference to the second game, Stay Tuned for Danger. Rick Arlen played two characters on Light of Our Love and one of them was Rory Danner’s evil twin, Yuri.

I grew up voraciously reading the Hardy Boys books while eating spaghetti (or evacuating it later) and I never once touched a Nancy Drew book, thinking as an adolescent: "that's the girl version."
But Gab, your Nancy Drew playthroughs have me hooked--it's how I unwind in the evening and I daresay I like Nancy Drew better than the Hardy Boys by a longshot now XD
Thanks so much for playing these games and being the sweet, chill person you are. You remind me a lot of a cousin of mine actually. God bless and all the best.

Another Nancy Drew game! And based, if loosely, on her first adventure. I read her books and the Hardy Boys as a wee thing, so this is doubly exciting. :)
Though it was almost painful watching Gab not pay any attention to the responses to delivered telegrams. They were all answers to the riddles; "cross cross" = "I'm not gon'a *double cross* ya or nothin'", "doll up", "all wet", and so on. :)

2:11:22 She’s right. Sewing takes practice. I broke two needles sewing a long pillowcase last week. It was on a sturdy antique Singer built into its table. I asked my mom to finish the last little bit. A former dressmaker (if she were who she said she was) would not need to keep practicing.
I’ve half a mind to pull out the shiny new Singer to make some pajamas. I’ve got a blue fabric with adorable foxes on it. Super cute
