Are you saying the ‘quality’ of the Seal!!! (Not dolphin) is better than Tesla? Sorry but the leather really is not, the Tesla is much nicer. Then you also have the efficiency factor, Tesla so much more efficient from a cost perspective in terms of km p/kw. Then you also have the charging, the charging takes much much longer in the seal than the Tesla, plus you won’t have access to the super network. Don’t even want to talk about the safety features…. The autopilot, excuse the French, shits all over the byd version. BYD have even admitted that they need to improve this. Should Tesla be worried? I don’t think so, competition is a good thing. A rising tide lifts all ships, are they the best? For now, absolutely.
Also, when you use Apple car play and you use maps, you won’t be able to see the bottom right corner which is where directions are listed. Terrible flaw.
Just a note, I have a BYD Seal premium RWD in Thailand. When I modify and/or disconnect the ADAS functions they are not reactivated when the vehicle is restarted. And that suits me perfectly...
I love my Seal (RWD / Design version). It's such a brilliant car to drive 👌 It has PLENTY of power and I actually do enjoy driving this a lot more compared to the AWD version I tested a few times.
Very interesting to know, I felt like the RWD was more playful and gave more of a kick on acceleration - no doubt because it was putting all the power through just the rear wheels.

The CEO of BYD openly anounced that they want to crush the traditional manufacturers and they can do that because they are heavily subsidized by the CCP. Price in UK is insane. Here in Australia, the base model starts at 49,888 AUD + onroad costs, which should be around 27,000 pound. There must be something wrong with UK.
@@TechInTheCar The Australian government scrapped import tariffs for EV's on the 18th June 22 regardless of country of origin, also 10% GST v 20% VAT. The UK doesn't get the base model at all - their base model is what we call the premium. The premium is $59k AUD inc10% GST, in the UK Import duty and VAT would make this $71k like for like = £38k, the UK price for this model is £45k a small part of the difference is extra shipping costs. Australia also has a direct sales model with online ordering similar to Tesla, I believe BYD in the UK and Europe uses a dealer network model so there are dealer margins to factor in as well.

Also shipping costs are way less because of Australia's proximity to China. The UK is trading on different terms and makes its money with taxation. In other parts of Europe, North Africa, West and Central Asia as well as Latin America (and of course in China) you can buy the BYD HAN which is their top end car of the normal BYD EV range. BYD SEAL is a later, newer platform but the HAN has for example way better back seat luxury for being chauffeured around than a TESLA MODEL S that costs nearly double the price.
Exactly. Have a Seal and do about 95% of charging at home. Cheap EV rate at night gets me 0.8 cent per KWh. Tesla network isn't developed in Ireland anyway, so wasn't even a factor to consider. Granted, maybe a consideration in a larger country
Not biased - much! The claimed benefits of the blade mainly flow from the LFP not the blade design. And if so great how come the Seal premium battery is 44% bigger than SR 3 battery but only goes 11% further. Also if so great how come the Seal (premium) is 16% heavier than a 3, which does not indicate great design or manufacture.
What's are the charging times like? only leaning towards tesla because of the charging times and network. Seal is a nice looking car, I've seen quite a few getting around Melbourne

The BYD looks very promising, what is the range? I just don't get why Tesla won't submit to CarPlay or Android Auto, they're so much nicer systems and they don't need to waste engineer time making their own
Picked up my Seal a few days ago .. Weather was absolut insane with rain, windspeed of 20m/s and 6c. Not exactly the ideal weather for a long trip in your EV - However, I managed to do 170km with an average speed of 118km/h and still have 59% left on the battery! My Audi Q4 could barely do 230km on a full charge with the same conditions 😆

Great question! The IONIQ 6 costs more but is a great car - you can see my review on my channel too - and it too is a Model 3 competitor. I might be inclined for the Seal personally as it just feels very fresh and exciting, but if you want a brand you know and is well established the Hyundai is the way to go.

Yes, BYD has all the latest technology, however it is weak in autonomous driving system and it falls into the third tier in China's standard. The ceiling of autonomous driving is held strongly in the hand of Huawei autonomous system equipped Avatr 12 which utilized Lidar as the main device for road status detection. Sadly, it is not sold in any countries other than China where it is designed and manufactured.
How did you find the lane keeping assist, speed alerts and other safety features? I found them somewhat problematic on a test drive, and there were so many of them to turn off every time you get in the car.
@@inka86 I just find it crazy that they go out of their way to irritate customers like this. I know all the cars have safety systems these days, but other manufacturers seem to be able to make then less irritating and intrusive.
It is an interesting question. It depends on how you drive and how you use the safety features. Personally I didn't find a problem. They only went off once when filming but everyone is different and I'd recommend seeing if you adjust your driving to fully use them if that reduces the warnings.
Traffic sign recognition is the worst by far. But you can move it to a shortcut on the drag down screen and deactivate in 2 seconds. Apparently from July this year, all cars with this function will not be able to do so. Anything before hand though will.
Let me rephrase, thank you for pointing this out. It is a real diffuser and it does improve aero but it is not comparable to a diffuser on a supercar and its effects are minimal - it is more for design than real use.

I often wonder about these reviews and are they are paid endorsements? I recently compared the BYD Seal and the latest version of the Model 3. The M3 has a much larger trunk and frunk space. The BYD Seal has hardly any autopilot features. By the way, autopilot is meant to enhance safety, not to let you watch Netflix while driving. The 360 cam is pretty useless and distorted. And the sales say it only works at low car speed. So I still need to use the side mirror. The BYD Seal is more expensive than the M3. It also has a lower charging rate of 150 kWh, while the M3 can charge at 250 kWh. The M3 has a longer track record of battery performance and reliability. The BYD Seal uses a new battery technology, but its long-term effects are unknown. Moreover, the reviews don't mention anything about the charging network. It doesn't matter how good your EV is, if you can't charge it, it's just a brick.
It is not paid. I’d be happy if someone would pay me! 😂 Part of the reason why different cars sell is personal preference. I think the new battery technology inside the BYD Seals is great. The handling and performance is better. Tesla do have a better charging network I agree but I didn’t talk about charging in this video just about the tech and performance. As for the driver assistance - I find Autopilot in the U.K. to be finicky and it disengages if you touch the wheel. I’m not a fan of the implementation although it is very very good. As for the 360 camera - it is normal to only work at low speeds as it’s meant for manoeuvring.
But the BYD Blade Battery *IS* the SAFEST battery out there. At least, no other batteries in the world have shown *ANY* provable safer test results. Also, ALL Tesla cars use Chinese batteries, and many of those are BYD Blade Batteries.
The Model 3 is in trouble. It’s not the best, fastest or longest range sedan EV on the market!
