- Musicians react to Dimash Kudaibergen singing Ikanaide from the 20th Tokyo Jazz Festival! Finally back with another Dimash reaction, I took a few weeks off because of school and being super busy. Got to introduce @seandaniel23, glad he was able to come back. I just wanted to show this one to Sean!! Such a beautiful performance and am really brought to near tears when I listen to this one. Dimash sings this in Japanese, he has also performed this in Chinese (mandarin) on the Chinese show I am Singer in 2017. The song title was Autumn Strong, also Late Autumn. Cheers

It is a classic song. Very emotional. Go on Gloria Wu’s channel to get the story about this song. It’s about a Japanese born woman who was in China as a beautiful singer. They thought she was Chinese but after the war, they found out she was deported to Japan and was found dead on the streets. Every song Dimash sings has real emotional meanings to them.

Ikanaide is Autumn Strong in Japanese as in the original. His other best version is at the Arnau concert in Ukraine, in the red suit with Marigolds and Vocalese version of Know.
Also in I Am Singer it was in Mandarin, and was about missing a seasonal worker till next year.
In Japanese it means Don’t Go.

DIMASH has his own recording studio at home. He doesn't drink anything cold(to protect voice) so he most likely does use air conditioning either.

The Chinese (Autuumn Strong) and Japanese (Ikanaide/ Please, Don’t Go) versions have completely different lyrics.. Both are based on a true story.
The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for how fate affected Yoshiko Yamaguchi's life. ...sad but inevitable and irrevocably
The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking.
I'm totally fascinated by how sensitively Dimash distinguishes and conveys to the listener the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version. Even his whisper and his breath are music... it breaks my heart and the tears keep flowing.I have never heard anything like this from a singer in my entire life. That is true mastery.
The original Japanese version Ikanaide/ Don’t Go(composed 1989) is by Koji Tamaki (*1958, Japanese songwriter).
The sad true story... very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. The song is a metaphor as the lyrics speak of how a person should hide what they are feeling.
Koji Tamaki sent a wonderful message to Dimash, thanking him, and praising him for singing his song in Japanese.
