Very watchable, and at times completely hilarious as it just hangs in to the thin line of possibility
Enchanting, quirky and delightfully ridiculous and witty.
Love it as well
This movie is still relevant today in 2023. We big countries (US) forget there are other countries, places, people that have great ideas and customs.
The world doesn't turn because we allow it, it turns because it doesn't matter what we do. The world cares not about the foolish machinations of humankind. It will keep turning LONG after humanity is gone.
Peter Sellers is sorely missed.
The US protects individual rights
@@TeaParty1776 haha nice joke...RIP Suchir Balaji
I remember watching "A mouse on the Moon" in the 80's. I really enjoyed the movie but it took a long time to find the title of it. Thanks for posting this one, I didn't know it.
It’s *the* Doctor, Bill Hartnell!!❤
that he is!
My Great Grandfather leonard wibberley wrote the book this film came from!❤
Your Great Grandfather was a talented man
@@dinnerandamovie Thanks and i hope you have a great day
I recreationally read the book in school 😊
Did he also write the sequel, 'The Mouse that Roared'? These are two of my favourite movies.
@@watcheroftheskies5444 yea he wrote all of the books and films i believe
I fell in love watching these classic British comedies after watching Wrong Box. They are awesome!
“No, not really, but it’s terribly practical.”
Cracks me up every time
Nice to see the original "Doctor Who" in his prime.
Delightful film, with a real edge to it. LOVE that opening sequence with the Otto Preminger-ish font and that cute little mouse.
53:19 “oh how nice, you must recite it to me some evening!”
Just scared my poor cat with my laughing at that.
On a side note if I ever go evil dictator I am stealing this line, and will absolutely give a harpsichord performance that will merit new rules to memorize in said conventions.
Rumpole!😂
Good ol’ Leo McKern!
This is gold! Thank you for sharing. ".....the Americans are a wonderful people and perhaps we shouldn't have taken their bomb..."🤣.
I totally agree! :-)
Brilliant
Thanks for uploading. My understanding of how this film came about was the fact that after WW1 the victors (France, UK, USA et al) tried to make the Germans pay which ruined the German Economy leading to hyper inflation (as the Germans resorted to printing money to pay). This led them to ditch democracy in favour of dictatorship. While the rest of the world was suffering from the depression, Germany had full employment and an expanding economy. The Germans were transfixed on Adolf's ability to keep the Germans out of the rest of the world's 'disaster'. They accepted his rhetoric as true (I notice online occasionally there are still those who still peddle his disastrous ideas and philosophy). Thus under US, UK and French control West Germany was industrialised and became economically successful (The USA did the same in Japan) while East Germany under Soviet control did not develop as much. The residents of the UK would (according to my now deceased mother who was a young adult during WW2 in the UK) wonder 'who won the war anyway?'. The USA poured finances into Germany (well West Germany) also as part of the developing 'Cold War'.
‘Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’. (W. Churchill)
:)
The film is adapted from the book .
Actually the USA gave two and a half times as much money to the UK under the Marshal Plan as it did to West Germany. It offered to aid the Communist nations too but they declined help.
If Hitler's ideas were "disastrous" then how come "Germany had full employment and an expanding economy", all in the time of the Great Economic Depression ??
If his ideas led to full employment and an expanding economy, then they can't have been that "disastrous."
Great..I loved it...will share it!!!
comedy as it used to be, good clean fun !
This film has shaped my views of geopolitics and the threat of the bomb for all my childhood and beyond, partly, since there´s some geopolitical truths spoken out here...
Great movie
It sure is
I forgot how funny this movie is. "The Port of New York is closed." HOW would that actually work?
I wish Hollywood was still capable of making movies like this !
Vintage Peter Sellers!
"Theyre from outta space" "they off a flyin saucer! Off of sputnik"
"Ohhh look they're from outta space" "off a flying saucer"
"Rayguns"
Had me in hysterics
Amazing movie
Our high school choir sang the national anthem of Grand Fenwick "Men of Fenwick".
It has its logical flaws, is a bit heavy on clichés and pretty naive at times - but it has some very funny scenes and Peter Sellers is brilliant at his three roles.
Some scenes (Dr. Kokintz: "No violence, please... the bomb!") give a foreshadowing of his later "Dr. Strangelove" movie ("You can't fight in the War Room!").
But The Mouse is a happier and charming film and so I keep re-visiting it occasionally.
And of course you can't forget about the Columbia Pictures variant that was done exclusively for this film.

You mean the intro with the lady scared of the mouse?
@@notroll1279 Exactly.
@@LOLMAN9538 I would have preferred her to schriek, though...
@@notroll1279She does. Don't know why her scream is missing here.
I grew up watching this a lot. My dad was a huge Peter Sellers fan.
I only came here, because this is one of the many performances William Hartnell did before Doctor Who
Glad you came here
Doctor who?
@@garrenreaload4344 have you been living under a rock since the 22nd of November 1963?
Doctor ...Who?😂
To be honest the only reason I watched this is because the original president of Mollosia was inspired by this movie to create a country of his own.
"We won" "YOU WHAT!?!?"
Ladies and gentlemen, for reasons you will soon understand the makers of this motion picture ask you not to divulge what you are now about to see to any living person. Thank you.
We take you now to the independent duchy of Grand Fenwick, the smallest country on the face of the globe. This tiny but prosperous nation, which occupies a total area of 15¾ square miles, lies high in the French Alps, somewhere along... I beg your pardon. Somewhere along...oh, yes. Here.
Grand Fenwick was founded in 1430 by Sir Roger Fenwick, a poor but honest British baronet who, as he later said, took a fancy to the neighborhood and moved in. Thus, thanks to Sir Roger, Fenwick is the only English-speaking country in Europe.
Fenwick is ruled by Duchess Gloriana XII, who is a direct descendant of Sir Roger and beloved by all her subjects. Although still in mourning for Count Leopold of Bosnia-Herzegovina, who disappeared during a tiger hunt 27 years ago, the Duchess takes an active interest in her country's welfare. Fenwick's parliament. Here is the hereditary prime minister Count Rupert of Mountjoy, a graduate of both Oxford and Cambridge.
Fenwick's forest. Here in these sheltered glades, the welfare of its feathered and furry folk is watched over by Fenwick's hereditary forest ranger Tully Bascombe. Fenwick's army. Although Fenwick has been at peace for 500 years, the Longbow remains the national weapon. Here, the army exercises under the guidance of Tully Bascombe, who's also a hereditary field marshal and grand constable of the armed forces.
If many Fenwickians seem to resemble each other, this may perhaps be ascribed to the influence of the founder, who was in every possible way, the father of his country. Fenwick's prosperity is based on its only export: Pinot Grand Fenwick. A small but sturdy local wine with a virile but friendly bouquet. For some obscure reason, the United States has always been the major market for this wine.
Thus, securing its prosperity and invigorated by its high alpine climate, Fenwick has always been a happy country. However, in 1959, a California winegrower bottled an imitation of Pinot Grand Fenwick and called it "Pinot Grand Enwick." Backed by a vast advertising campaign and sold at a lower price, this imitation drove Pinot Grand Fenwick out of the American market. As a result, in a very short time, the duchy of Grand Fenwick was in a state of absolute crisis. One fateful day...
I see a future career in subtitling for you. Cheers mate!
I like the mildly ironic manner of the speaker... including his comment of the demonstration of a thermonuclear detonation at 1:12:05.
An absolute classic, hilarious

In the French version the plaque says
« Ouvrez vous-même la barrière. Le Gardien est parti cueillir les pâquerettes - Open
the gate yourself. The Duty Guard is out flowers picking. »
That 'Yank go home' banner in amongst all the American flags is brilliant lmao
Good Fun.😅😅😅.
the thing of a mini country declaring war to a powerful country did actually happen, of course the countries names were changed during WW 2 El Salvador declared war to Germany, Germans had some problems locating the country in the map, just like in the movie.
Ukraine.
I saw this in the theater/re when it emerged.
17:43 ah yes, the QE
Peter Sellers is Jonathan Pryce. Jonathan Pryce is pope Francis. "The Zevites laugh at us" said Greg Hallett.
All of this seems strangely pertinent in January 2025
The Nostalgia Critic, Cinemasins, and HISHE should review this movie. So should Honest Trailers.
18:30 Queen Mary's running mate
the old ones eh!
Oh no! Peter Sellers in drag! We must save the children! This must be banned for all that is right and holy! (😅😅😅)
Now we have drag queen story hour directly aimed at children.
You present a false dichotomy to misrepresent the actual issue and to gaslight others who criticize the actual issue as a diversionary tactic to promote a propaganda narrative. This is your attempt to control the narrative, and I recognize your goals, your methods and their flaws, the actual issue, and have just NOT conceded control of the narrative to you.
Most people won’t understand this, ergo you will attempt to gaslight me with mockery.
Of course, you could just be joking. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
The difference is this was a comedy and they weren't taking it seriously or making a message. It was just for a comedic effect
This whole movie really feels like something out of Dungeons and Dragons, doesn't it?
no.
Why do I always think of Iran when I see this movie
Hey Rms Queen Elizabeth and Rms livernia are in this movie dudes
RMS QE also makes an appearance in 007 The Man With The Golden Gun, after sinking in Hong Kong's harbor.

And make sure your can’t hear it unless the TV is turned up to at least 50%

Such funny but true description of the US and war. But arriving in the US without Visa will not get you arrested. It gets you everything. Everyone wants an easy life. Everyone wants my life. That’s why I’m so poor. Unfair competition putting the squeeze on Americans.
You are confusing 1959 with 2023. That's remarkable 64 years of confusion.
