Pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Rabia Qaiser, talks about how the surgeon makes the decision to perform certain procedures for each individual patient. Dr. Qaiser begins by defining each type of Chiari malformation. She then walks through what is involved in a common "work up" for Chiari malformation, additional factors like presence of a syrinx or not, and the differences between the suggested treatments of Chiari, etc.
Dr. Qaiser also answered questions regarding: the relationship between neurosurgeons and neurologists, complications that could occur during or from the surgery and how the surgeon pivots, and why multiple surgeries may be required.
This meeting was held completely virtually on June 23rd. (2022)
