Trap Lore Ross explained why he referred to the late rapper King Von as “rap's first serial killer” in his controversial documentary. Citing lyrics and a multitude of evidence, Ross defended his claim, arguing that Von's repeated reference to murder and his seeming personal gratification from the act aligned with the FBI’s definition of a serial killer. Von would have to find him in the UK, fly there, kill him and avoid detection, fly back and spend the rest of his life not getting caught. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? I think that the term “serial killer” is more for the ones that kill random innocent people habitually. It think the documentary is exceptionally well-crafted and engaging, but I have reservations about the choice of title. It makes a very definitive statement about someone, which could be seen as defamatory. I think the key to this perspective is being removed from the hood. You have to grow up facing the various things you see. Hearing about deaths and frightening threats and contemplating your own death possibly by kids before you hit 21. Everyone that grows up in war torn environments, or who is exposed to unaddressed trauma winds up different. I think Von saw himself as a killer, but probably much more like a soldier. It was casual and random people for the sense of power. It was an enemy faction for their active roll in offing people he loved. Remember he wasn't just doing this... it was in response to what was also being done.
