When my brother and I were little, we would often visit our grandpa's farm for several days. Every night when our grandpa put us to bed, he would tell us a story about Paul. My brother and I were convinced that he was real. One day we found a small rusty ax while messing around in the woods, and we brought it to grandpa telling him with excitement that we had found Paul Bunyan's ax. Also, every morning we would wake up early, grind flour, and make flapjacks. Those were magical feeling days. If you think that this was a long time ago, it wasn't. I am only 15 as I write this.

Australia has a similar character, though not broadly known. His name is Crooked Mick. Worth looking into. One short story about him is how Crooked Mick got his name. One version tells that when Mick was 12 years old he started having growth spirts, and by 13 he was over 9 feet tall, and still growing. So his dad tried to stop the growth by ring-barking Mick's legs. It didn't work. Since then Mick walks with a bit of a limp.

There used to be a cool mock up of Paul and Babe at a California State Park at the Redwood Forest.. I don't know if it's still there. It was huge and made of concrete.
Paul Bunyan was created to support deforestation. I'm totally in support of it. And Disney did a good job of animating it. Can't wait till we colonize other planets and we deforest their landscape and we create another folklore in support.
Incredible. This has a vibe of ancient Greek mythology. This is amazing to hear that Americans only two hundred years ago was on the cultural level of bronze age to create something like this.
In the cold winter months when the constellations Orion the giant and Taurus the bull are high in the night skies men engaged in the time honored tradition of hunkering in, drinking and making stuff up.

Joe Magarac and Alfred Bulltop Stormalong as well

Paul is wholesome
A lie to keep you in check. Think about it.
When I was a kid, I always thought Paul Bunyan was real lol.
LOL he could be
he is real
He was real, the media doesn’t want you to know because he’s too manly and would empower the individual too much lol
When I was young I knew he had a blue ox some kind of lumber jack and has something to do with flapjacks
I felt the same way with the ninja turtles. Lol
You know it’s inspiring that our young countries mythology tells a story about what a single individual can do.
Paul Bunyan is one of the first American Tall Tales and now will become apart of American Folklore!
When it comes to American Folklore there is no one bigger then Paul Bunyan! (Big pun intended)
i like how these tales are like the American equivalent of Norse like gods to explain landmarks

Paul Bunyan is my favorite American Folklore of all time.
This sounds like a collection of Chuck Norris jokes :D
I've always hated how the steam saw beat Paul's axe but i was happy that he was in Alaska having fun with Babe creating the Aurora borealis
Well, if it means anything, the steam saw never really caught on. It was too hard to move, and it was dangerous to boot.
The Steam Saw gave way to the chainsaw, and I'm sure Paul found out about it and was like "take that, idiot."
Paul bunyan a legendary American folktale, or was it a tall tale?
BOTH I THINK
