I found 10lbs of plums in the Whole Foods dumpster (you read that right! Dumpster!) and our food processor from our wedding registry comes tomorrow. Cannot wait to give this a try!
I'm vegan so I prepare with extra creamy oat milk and blueberries... Omgoodness! Heavenly! Also I used silicone molds and they pop right out! Ty for this😁
A local ice cream maker had peony gelato a few months ago made with fresh peonies from his garden, it was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted! I will definitely be growing a bed of peonies next year to make some. Our peaches are about ready to come off the trees on our homestead, I'll definitely be making gelato with some of them! So yummy, thanks for sharing.
Shaye, thank you for sharing the title, The Olive Farm. I used to enjoy watching All Creatures Great and Small when I was a young woman and liked Carol Drinkwater so much as Mrs Herriot! I know I’m going to love audible and the Olive Farm series.
This sounds wonderful! We plan to go blueberry picking this week and I plan to try this. Thinking of doing a blueberry mint combination! Thank you for continued inspiration!!
I have to tell you this is my favorite! I made nectarine, sent some home with my Grandson, he called and said it was so good I could sell it. Lol of course I made him lots more. Favorite recipe of the summer
Made this using a can of full-fatted coconut milk, instead of whole milk, with peaches. Very smooth and creamy-- may need to adjust the sweetener a bit and I added vanilla... we've decided it's a hit! Going to try this with other fruits!
I'll get some fruit today, namely blackberries. My favourite gelato in italy was the blackberry one, so I will give it a go using this recipie! Can't wait. Might strain out some of the seeds though..
I currently have an abundance of figs from my trees. So, I figure why not fig gelato?! Used your recipe and it was delicious! Even my non-fig loving husband enjoyed a scoop of this in his ice cream cone. Thanks for the idea!
I don’t know why I never thought of that! I have tons of frozen fruit in the freezer for smoothies. Another way to utilize them. Thanks for the delish idea!
I just did peaches, honey and nutmeg. Wonderful ! I also simply reused a yogourt container. Alternatively, a cottage cheese, or ice cream container can do the job just fine. No need to reinstert new waist into the cycle when there are so many things we can easily reuse. I also infuse all the honey at once in the milk together with the nutmeg. Thank you for sharing this easy way to use ripe fruits. :)
What a great idea :) I just made up something similar, but it was a mix of fruit with just heavy cream... It was also quite good! Since I included a ripe banana in there it sweetened it enough to where I didn't need to add sugar. I'm thinking I'll make your recipe soon though! How fun
Oh my goodness great idea- just picked so many Saskatoons that our hands are purple- there’s an ice cream shop in town that makes Saskatoon and toasted hay flavoured ice cream- we’ll have to try with your recipe, thanks!
When you got out the pot to boil milk I thought, "I'm not doing that...". I'm so glad I stuck around. We have so much fruit to put up and this looked amazingly easy and delicious! Thank you! I think I'll start with an Apricot Lavender gelato. Side note: we live in central WA and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what local store you got your containers at? I prefer to buy locally over Amazon, if at all possible.
@@hannahshomecreated It was! Even my husband (who has made unkind remarks towards my lavender 😂) liked it! I’ve also done an apricot rosemary now, and really enjoyed it.
@@thejoyfullilyandco9537 Yum, I would try the Apricot Rosemary, as well! It's so amazing to see what you can do with fruits and veggies to make sure they don't go to waste, but enjoy in pleasant ways, too.
For the past few summers I’ve made cantaloupe ice cream in a very similar way and it’s an awesome way to use up those beautiful ripe melons! No additional sweetener needed if very ripe.
I want honey from my bees, and fruits and veggies from my garden, I want eggs and milk from my chicken and cow!!!!!! Goals !! Thanks for sharing I’m definitely trying these gelato recipes out
My mum used to make something quite similar than your gelato for us, and I loved the plum-version. What about an adult-version-gelato: Raspberry with Amaretto?
@@joanneganon7157 I am sorry Joanne, she used the plums from a tree that grew on our property, my grandfather had grafted and pruned it himself and none of us knows the variety.
Wonderful idea! We'll have to try this with our raspberries and saskatoons. Maybe even our blackcurrants... that'd be some powerful! Thanks for sharing and bringing us into your lovely kitchen again :)
I make a cucumber and basil gelato that is really good! 😋 And a tomato one is also really great for use in fresh and light entrees 👍 And in fall I make a sweet pumpkin one with pumpkin and pumpkin spices in it that honestly just combines the best of summer and fall 😋 Ooo and one my favorite summer flavors is raspberry and rose extract (just use a little!) 😋😋
@@lisaporria7307 You can totally roast it first 👍 I usually steam it (but roasting would definitely give it more flavor) because that doesn’t dry out the pumpkin (and I have an easy lazy steam function on my oven 🤣) and then make a mash of it that I mix with the spices and then put in ice cube trays to freeze. Depending on how moist your pumpkin ends up being you might need to add some liquid to it before you freeze it, but my steamed pumpkin doesn’t need any usually. 👍 I think you could even do it with canned pumpkin (like you can buy for pies), if you like 🤔 Good luck!
@@rebekahmiller8699 it really isn’t all that difficult! 😊 You can pretty much use the recipe that is given in the video but just substitute the fruit with peeled (or unpeeled for a darker green gelato), chopped and frozen cucumber and fresh basil to taste (don’t add too much because the flavor will overpower the cucumber flavor very quickly). Whether to sweeten it or not is 100% personal preference 😋 I usually add some sugar syrup to it (but really not much), but it is also really great without sugar in it because then you taste the cucumber better 😊 Also I kind of like it when they aren’t super sweet. And then you can add a scoop or two to cocktails as well! Seriously, a gin tonic with a scoop of cucumber/basil gelato (or sorbet if you leave out the milk) is AMAZING on a hot day! 😋 Good luck!
They look delicious, and so simple too. I would think it would also be good if you infused some herbs or spices in the milk for extra flavour. I’m thinking of bay or cardamom, both of which are good with berries. But I guess the choice is endless.

I have never made gelato but I am going to try this using the blackberries in the freezer from our harvest in May, sweetened with honey from our hives. Thanks for the how to!
mango-raspberry gelato is a really good combination. I am eyeballing for 2/3 mango and 1/3 raspberries. I add honey and vanilla, and a bit of milk or even vanilla creamer- it's super good.
THIS WAS AMAZING!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. The recipe is so easy to follow. I used a silicon muffin mold to freeze the milk pods. They popped right out. I love knowing all the ingredients in it. Up Next peach!
I got 3 boxes of bruised peaches the u pick place by my house was throwing out they wouldn't sell them so I took them home cleaned the I got 41/2 gallon bags frozen I put lemon on them so they didn't turn brown
Even more simple...Put in the food processor the fruit from the freezer, some greek yoghurt and what you choose to sweet... And back in the freezer for a little time if it is too soft...Or you leave it for later there 😋

Peaches and cream is always a hit. Blackberry/honey might be a nice way to bring a summer taste into your wintertime. I wonder if a lemon or citrus (maybe pink grapefruit) gelato would be welcomed on a cold night.
I'd be curious to try making ground cherry gelato (it'd taste similar to pineapple), but its so full of tiny seeds. Would you potentially blender the fruit, sieve the seeds out and then do the muffin tin pucks? I imagine you'd do that with figs as well?
