A lot of snow and a lot of work and cold, but what beauty. Your videography is absolutely fantastic!! All projects like yours always seem to take forever & feels like it will never get done, then one day..... Keep going, your efforts are worth it. Thanks for the video.
In my last year of high school I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where my father was stationed in the USAF. We had 4,72 meters of snow that winter (1969-1970). My job was keeping our driveway clear. Every morning and every afternoon. In March we had snow banks on either side of the driveway that were over 2 meters high. From the top of the small hill looking down towards our house, on the right side of the street you couldn't see any houses. Only where the driveways were shovelled out. On the left side of the street you could see all the houses. The wind caused huge drifts on the front of our house and the back of all the houses on the other side of the street. It seems you had even a harder job keeping your paths clear. Around the house. To the stream. To the pens where your chickens, rabbits, and sheep are. To your kitchen. Still, it looks beautiful. And, for me, there's no work I enjoyed more than shovelling snow.
The 90 cm used to be the norm back in the 1960s and 70s for us in New England, USA. Now we are lucky if we get a few inches. Not that I like snow that much, but it is a sure sign of Global Warming. When I was a child, the snow was still pure white and we would gather some in a bowl and put maple syrup over it. That was a winter treat we always got especially the first snowfall. Now the snow has a slight grey tinge to it, indicating all of the pollutions there is in the upper atmosphere. So sad that we humans did this to our selves. God bless you both with the way you take care of your homestead, especially the animals. In this kind of weather, they are so dependant on their humans to provide food and clear water. Well done!
Snow is beautiful to view from here, thousands of miles away, but it is obvious something you don't just "view", but a part of nature and life that forces you to get outside and work, to clear paths to your animals so that they won't suffer from thirst or lack of food. It is cool to see you two pet the animals, and smile at their mannerisms.
I wish I had discovered you earlier but I can still tell you not to worry so much about your English. You don't need to be perfect and you are doing a good job with video and your explanation. I know you have had to edit but you can trust us to tell you if we don't understand something. This is wonderful. Thank you.
I'm so glad you got to feeling better and not so tired or down. You both are such inspirations in so many ways. God Bless You All... Love your videos and life
A project like this with just two people can be exhausting and difficult. You are doing a wonderful job.Take it slowly and look after yourself. You will get your house built in the end. Best wished from England.
Ah, bless you! My husband had something very similar to you - fatigue and no energy and he often said everything seemed so much harder. Hope you’re feeling better. Love this channel! Thank you for doing it. You both are so inspiring! My husband and I are visiting Finland soon for 3 nights and have rented a cabin in the woods along a lake. I’m Canadian but live in England now. I miss the snow so much which is why we’re going to Finland for a snow break. You probably want a break from all snow!
I belatedly - and very happily - stumbled upon your channel. What a wonderful vlog. The blend of the landscape, your methodical working, your quiet conversations in Swedish, your low-key commentary in (excellent) English and very well-chosen background music make watching your videos time very well-spent. Well said! Your humble tone and ability to be real in such a beautiful backdrop! You two are amazing and I wish you both the best in all the hard work you put into everything you do! May your love blossom all the more as you work side by side!
I’m sitting in front of the wood stove watching your videos today. It is -11 c here today. So it feels appropriate to watch some of your winter videos. Great job guys. Building always seems to take a long time.
What a hard-working positive couple you are, your outlook on nature and life is beautiful. I wish you all the health and happiness in your futures stay safe.
It’s really touching how hard you work! I really liked you! My eyes will be tearful if I look at you and see that you are concerned with the environment and animals. 🌲🌲🌲🕊
You guys are amazing, love all the scenery and animals! There's a saying I like to use when dealing with getting projects done " How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time"!!! Keep up the good work.
My husband has been talking about this Vlog for about 12 months. He coerced me into watching the birth of your son today and I was so inspired that I wanted to go back and look at it all from the very beginning. Your music choices are beautiful and vidoegraphy is absolutely stunning. It is extremely addictive watching the beauty and simplicity of your life. I don't think I could live like that but I really appreciate you sharing it. Congratulations on the birth of your very lucky little boy.
Started watching your most recent vlogs and soon started from the beginning! I am inspired by your hard work and team effort. Very glad that you have continued despite all the early set backs, thank you
Kanske nångång i framtiden.
You Truly are Very Blessed to be able to live out in the Woods where you are in this World 🌎.I Truly have enjoyed watching your Videos And I Truly Will Follow your Family From Now on May God bless you Always. And please Stay Safe Always 🙏🙏🙏
I live in Minnesota in the US. A lot like Sweden in weather. We are all lacking Vitamin D3. It is very cheap. Taking it makes all the difference in the world. You can ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels. I told my best friend the same thing. The doctor checked and immediately prescribed her vitamin D and she said she was amazed at how good she felt in a short time. Love your animals and the way you care for them.
I am taking D vitamins and also a multivitamin and omega 3. I guess it helps, but it seems my problem goes deeper than that. I think I overworked myself a little in the last couple of years and now my body is protesting. But thank you for showing concern! :) /Mathias
Vitamin D definitely can run low. This is why northern Europeans (like me) are so pale...we absorb vitamin D and can thrive in the low light forests we evolved in. If we ever see some type of break down in the modern pharmacy system it would revert us back to only pale skin being able to thrive in the north. It is in a way, so hard to believe in our modern world how close we still are to nature and her laws. Our ancestors were smart and ate lots of fatty fish, jams and syrups from berries, rose hips, and other fruit to sustain us in the long dark winters. It's easy to get exhausted, make sure to nurture and nourish yourself with raspberry leaf tea, sprout some grains, eat a bit more fat, and sleep a bit more. Spring is soon here, be well and safe.
I feel like mailing you snowshoes! YIKES! Thanks for sharing...you are doing VERY well with your English...I appreciate your struggles and know they will in turn, assist you in the future. God Bless!
I came across your vlog yesterday, and binge watched it for the rest of the day. Living off grid is something I have always been interested in. If i could give you any advice, it would be that a mistake is only a mistake if it can't be fixed and continue to keep your projects the priority. Great Vlog!
Watching the snow shoveling is like an amazingly different world for us here. We don't get snow here in Sydney. I wish it did snow here. But the amount of snow that you've experienced there is crazy. The way you guys are able to walk in 90cm deep snow is amazing. Keep up the good work!
Wow it reminds me of how winters were when I was little, and that was in Vastra Gotaland, Sweden and not way up where you are. Really appreciate your videos, thank you!
Greetings from snowy Montana USA. Your videos are wonderful with beautiful scenery and filming. May you regain strength and health. I look forward to the next one. Your english is excellent!
As someone from the Caribbean, this is just so surreal to see..... and tho my brain knows I am not built for this kind of weather, I would still love to experience it one day.
Always love watching your videos! Thank you and good luck as you keep building the house! Even with the slow going you’ve made so much progress. Wishing you warmth and wellness. I too have experienced that loss of creativity and know how disturbing it can be. You haven’t lost your incredible gift though! My whole family loves your work and looks forward to your Instagram and RUclips posts ❤️
Thank you so much for your kind words! Im glad to hear that you like what we do. I hope to find my way back soon and restore my energy levels. There's so much I want to learn and do /Mathias
Your videos are so beautiful! I love the atmosphere, the shots you take. Your story is amazing. I just discovered your channel. I’m curious to know more about your adventure. I hope you’ve been feeling better since this video. Thank you very very much for sharing this. 💙
i really admire the effot that you put in to keep your homestead running on a day like this. to think that homesteading is hard enough without the added extra of this much snow. and hello from the uk
Thank you guys for the great videos! I'm really happy that you started posting again. Your channel is unique because of the amazing video quality and because you are truly off-grid. That is why I would love to see more in the future. Don't worry about your English I guess most of your subscribers aren't native English speakers anyway. ;-) Greetings from the Czech Republic
Hi! You both speak English very very well! Please don't think you are struggling with it. Also, I noticed the necessity of shoveling your chicken coop. Perhaps a tin roof would help? It would also help keep the area dry from rain and provide shade in the heat. You are doing very well and should be proud!
Lovely video as allways! As someone below mentioned, great videography! I hope you'll manage up there! Greetings from northern Småland! (we got 40cm of snow but its thawing now)
Hallo Tova and Mathias! Mathias, sorry to hear about your depression. Have you tested blood for Lyme disease? That little malicious form of life got me feel similar. Talking of life, what is the bread of your sheep? They look like an old, archaic Viking breed :) We used to have Skudde sheep in our region (North-East Poland) before war. Now only commercial breeds. We're looking for this kind of breed for our homestead this year:) Your sheep are so taken care of and look so healthy, happy, intelligent. One can see you must devote to them all your love!
No I haven't. We have almost no ticks here. But it's still a possibility I guess. It's an old swedish heritage breed called helsingefår, so no industrial breeds has ever been in contact with them. You don't have any heritage breeds left in Poland? It's a little bit of a long way to get sheeps from here :)
Ticks are spreading fast in northern Europe. They can be so small as a needle eye and you feel nothing when they bite and suck. After a week you feel like a flu, muscles aches, then come sometimes horrible head aches. In most cases you can observe circular shape spreading red rash/swelling. You start avoiding light. When the illness develops after few months, even years depending on your immune system, you feel very blue like you decribed. I didn't want to scare you, just to give a possibility if you don't know what happend. I wish you health! We have to my knowledge only one very old sheep breed, wrzosówka, small, hardy but the fleace is not good for making wool. Bringing your sheep here was not my intention, they are so beatiful I only hoped this is a more common breed I could buy in my country.
yes, its a possibility, I've spent some summers on The Åland Islands. And there we had ticks on us almost every day, mostly the really smal ones that look like a small black dot and you notice them first when it starts itching. So I guess it could be possible for me to have cached lyme disease. Frasse the cat actually had a tick last summer. First one I've seen here. The wrzosówka looks really cool! Is the wool really not good for making wool? It seems strange with an old breed with bad wool. Haha :) It would not be impossible to bring some sheep from here to there, but it would be a big project. There is about a thousand individual sheep from our breed, so the breed is threatened
Looks like I have to read more about polish herritage breeds. You're right, wrzosówka has a good wool:) I was thinking of Skudde. But checking it I also discovered another: świniarka :)
Ticks (parasites) are becoming a problem in southern Finland, numbers are increasing. We have to treat cats and dogs to try and control. I know someone who has been badly affected by Borelliosis from a tick-bite and this resulted in partial paralysis. Consulting a Doctor would be a good idea.
This makes me think of homesteads “way back in years” that were built with the animal shelters nearly attached to the home...maybe it was because of extreme cold and snows like this. It sure would cut down on the shoveling! Love your beautiful videos. Do you think you might have had mononucleosis?
Thank you! :) We're glad you like them. We have tried to minimise the snow shovelling as much as we can. Our problem is that the "Main path" on our property is in a small valley, so if we throw the snow to the sides of the path the snow takes forever to melt in the spring and the bottom of the valley becomes a mudway. Thats why we try to shovel all the snow from the path away from the valley. About the mononucleosis, I don't think so, I haven't been feverish really, just some kind of low grade sickness that never seems to loose its grip.. But thank you for your concern. /Mathias
Kul! Hoppas din dröm blir verklighet en dag. /Mathias
You do get a lot of snow. And you seem to have a lot of fairly long pathways to shovel each storm. And in the end of the vlog you are talking about your future and building and so on, maybe you should have a building to house your animals and other activities so that there would be a covered path so that you could reach your animals without shoveling snow. Or somehow join some buildings closer together so there is less snow required to be shoveled. And you are young and in good shape now but as you get older you will not want to have to do all the physical tasks that you can easily do now, so in planning for the future some thought should be given to being able to do all you want to do with less energy output, work wiser with age.
Thank you for your comment, we are thinking about having some sort of house/barn where we can gather all the animals during winter, but it will be a future project :) Thank you for the input!
Your health issues and lack of energy might be from lack of sunshine in the winter or Vitamin D deficiency. A full-spectrum sun bulb in the house would be help. Thyroid deficiency is often a problem in areas with long winters. Iodine from kelp or seaweed (sushi, nori) would help. If your tongue has cracks on the surface (look in the back) you probably have mineral deficiencies. This happens if people don't eat enough vegetables or if they colon isn't absorbing what they do eat. If your tongue isn't pink (if it has a white or yellowish coating) you have something like thrush and need probiotics or acidophilus from natural unsweetened yogurt or fermented foods. Kombucha is yummy, easy to 'brew' at home, very cost-effective and provide probiotics. So Vitamin D, iodine, minerals and probiotics.
I on the other hand love winter and snow, but I'm starting to long for spring.. It has just snowed another 10 cm, better get my ass out and do some more shoveling.. /Mathias
Kul!
How can you get out from here, if you have any kind of emergency situation? Specially with a child? Hospital, doctor? I love your videos, I love also nature, animals, the trees....but sometimes it can be also really hard to live this kind of life.
My seven-year-old: "I like how each of the animals seems to be smiling." :)

Wow so much snow.

Wow that is work. I live in the tropics and I love it when it gets chilly so I can sleep. I think I will be a bear if I had to lived in cold country.
completely stunning. lovely video.
Thank you! :)
I'm thinking snowshoes? We had lots of shoveling in Maine and Michigan too - the snow does help insulate and it is beautiful, but always lots of work.
Lovely video as allways! As someone below mentioned, great videography! I hope you'll manage up there! Greetings from northern Småland! (we got 40cm of snow but its thawing now)

Thanks for the vlog. Great video !
Thank you!
Great job!
Thank you! :)
Thanks!!!
/Mathias
Great video thanks for sharing. Keep up the work...your making progress. Took me 2 years to finish my kitchen once. Haha!
Thank you! Yes, it seems like some projects take forever..
I especially liked1:49 ..so artistic!
Nice Video! 👍🏻 ... 90cm is really a lot of Snow ❄️☃️ here in my region in Germany we do not even have 5 cm 🙁.
It is :) incredible winter!
Not sure how u do it, I'm cold as heck watching, but I have me tea. 😄 and yr Video to Accommodate.
our winter has been so strange this year... 2 days ago 70deg F then 3" of snow.... rained today ground bare again :(
Here in Tennessee,Nashville USA we get maybe a inch of snow a year..
Bra jobbt!
Tack så mycket!
I love cold weather but not sure I like your cold winter months. Beautiful though.
Have You thorght about a roof over the outsider areas of the chiekens. In winter it helts both You and the chiekens. And maybe in summer too.
Wish we had snow in Denmark like that 😀
Thank you for your good advice! We are brewing our own kombucha at least! :)
I hope you feel better.
Much better! Thank you for the concern
/Mathias
Nice job you two.
Dificiu snow ✨🌨️🌨️🌨️🌲🌲🌨️🌨️🌲🌲🌲🌨️🌨️🌨️
Really life is hard on this place but amazing
Wow! That's way too much snow for me! I don't like cold or snow!
I on the other hand love winter and snow, but I'm starting to long for spring.. It has just snowed another 10 cm, better get my ass out and do some more shoveling.. /Mathias
Do you have Lyme disease in Sweden? That kind of long term exhaustion is a symptom. I know snow is a lot of work but it is gorgeous!
Yes, but fortunately we have almost no ticks in this area of sweden. I have seen one and it was on Frasse last summer.
Thank you! :)
mosquito borne also. Hope you have been able to determine the cause and are healing well.
Do you feed your rabbits a strictly hay diet in the winter, or do you supplement with pellets??
Only hay and sometimes some veggie scraps :)
Kul!
How can you get out from here, if you have any kind of emergency situation? Specially with a child? Hospital, doctor?
I love your videos, I love also nature, animals, the trees....but sometimes it can be also really hard to live this kind of life.
