  • I have this 2002 Lexus gs300 with a 2jz GE in it. Has a misfire on cylinder 1 and 6 at idle, and when past 1200-1400 rpm it clears up as you can see in the video. If you have any possible thing to check let me know.
    Things I have checked
    - coil packs
    - spark plugs
    - coil pack wiring
    - vvti solenoid
    -igniter
    Tested spark and it’s getting spark only after it gets up in the rpm , no spark at idle
    Thank you

    RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM
    After multiple months of trial and error I was able to find a random forum for is300’s to check the crank sensor trigger points on the back of the crank timing gear. If it’s bent or has a broken tooth it will misfire on cylinder 1 and 6 since it’s thinking it’s reading TDC (top dead center) at the flat spot and the broken tooth causing this.
    So if you wondering, that was my issue. There was a broken tooth on my gear. Got a new one ($140 at a Toyota dealership) and bam no more issues and it’s been fine since.

      @@Ari32499 nothing. Never fixed it. Has to be the crank timing gear. I have experienced it enough for that to be the only problem. The new one I bought had to have been bad.

      @@Ari32499 nothing, . But had to be a bad new crankshaft sprocket. never seen it be anything but that. I personally did not break the original one or the second one. The third one must have had a scratch on it or something. I gave up.

      @@aldois300 it the cam gear ⚙️ oil control valve. OCV is in the very top front of the motor where the vvti cam gear is. There is a solenoid that is sitting beside it that gets bad over time. Relatively cheap part and very easy to replace. Should be a large bolt mounting it to the motor.

      Lol. It's funny so many things can cause these issues. All 2JZ derived engines go through these things. Mine same problem was caused by a knock sensor. Go figure

    I have one doing the same thing right now. The crankshaft sprocket missing a tooth is usually the culprit, but I replaced it. Still no good. Igt signal comes from computer to igniter then igniter grounds the coil. With the lab scope I’m not getting a signal from PCM to the igniter. I will keep you posted.

    • @RaWoodgett
      @RaWoodgett 3 года назад +1

      ethan bray nope. The strange thing is, even with all of the spark plugs removed, still no spark on 2 cylinders. Be sure to check the crankshaft gear reluctor for a missing tooth, but I lab scoped mine and no signal from pcm to igniter. Has to be pcm but customer declined. I did not lab scope camshaft sensor to be fair.

      RJ Woodgett I got in contact with the creator of this video and he said it was the crank gear was missing a tooth which leads me to the timing..does yours also run fine over 1500 RPM? i had to drive mine home and CEL dissappeared after 1500 RPM i have replaced my crank gear as well so maybe VVTi gear is off?

    • @RaWoodgett
      @RaWoodgett 3 года назад

      ethan bray no. I had new crank gear new vvt sprocket. Labsoped crank sensor. Replaced ignitor. Checked compression. Made sure marks in line 3-4 times. Swapped coils. No spark on 1&6 below 1500 rpms.

      @@RaWoodgett hmm interesting i could be having the same issue..What about the ECU it could be causing the same problems thats my last resort buy a 2002 gs300 ECU and swap the chip out of mine into the new ECU so i dont have to program a new key..if its not the timing for me(which i done 3times now) then it has to be the ECU..what are your thoughts what do you feel it could be?

    I know this is a year old but hopefully someone sees this 😅 but i have a 02 is300 I had a p0300 code a month or two ago eventually started misfiring, got new plugs and wires then was running fine, after that it started misfiring again this time in cyl 3 instead of being random. Ended up taking it to a shop and supposedly they changed cyl 3 coil and connector, then said injectors and anything fuel related was good, compression was good, and then they also supposedly changed the VVT solenoid but then said it was fine. They eventually said they fixed the cyl 3 misfire and it went the cyl 5 from there. And now I’m here and don’t know what it could be 😭 the shop couldn’t figure it out and basically handed me back my car for free if somebody had this problem or knows the solution any help would be great also wanted to mention it sounds like a rotary a little

      Its the wires that go to the coil pack connectors. They get brittle n break apart n touch causing a misfire. Peel back the tape only on the coil pack harness n look for a bald spot where the wire is exposed n i guarantee thats your issue

      Sorry I didn’t know this was commented. I did figure it out. It was a broken tooth on the crank gear where the timing belt loops around on the crank. It broke when I removed it the first time.
