I grew up in Clermont, which is five miles east of Groveland. My father told me of this miscarriage of justice when I was really young, and I will never forget it! He would often reference it when he would see black men being taken to jail at the county seat which is in Tavares, Fl; "He would always say, "I sho' hope that boy makes it there!" During these times Clermont did not have a jail, only holding cells so, anyone arrested would have to be picked up by Lake county sheriff's department, and taken to jail down this backroad we call Astatula road. I always thought that this atrocity had happened during my time, but it actually happened 12 years before I was born. Willis McCall had a hatred that was so commonplace during those times it was scary, and it's still scary just thinking about it. To show how racist some still are, a road in northern Lake county Florida was to be named in his honor! In honor of what? Him being responsible for countless deaths of blacks?! Thank God it was shot down the same way he shot down blacks during his tour of duty which according my father seemed to last a lifetime! And he was still the sherriff when I was a kid!! My best friend's uncle was the one that was shot in the head, and I can only imagine the unnecessary grief that this family, and the others endured! 😭😭 The lies, the cover ups, the miscarriage of justice that was just rectified posthumously. These men deserved so much better than they received! They deserved fairness, but that is a word that is oftentimes not applicable to people of color within the justice system. Cases like this prove that the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments do not mean freedom and definitely not equality for our people. It is time we separate and build our own economy, political system, educational system, and spirituality that is free of white supremacy. Im a white dude and my old boss from 40 years ago was from Philadelphia, Miss. We were in Los Angeles and he owned a trucking company. He told me that he and his brother were walking home from school back in the 40’s and they saw a black man hanging from a tree a couple hundred feet off the gravel road. He told his mom about it when he got home and she whipped him and told him not to ever speak of anything like that to anyone ever again. He was told to be quiet about that stuff. He also went to school with all those law enforcement officers and others that murdered those 3 college kids back in 64. He knew the guy that owned the earthen dam where those 3 kids were buried. Such a small world. He passed away in 88 and is buried outside Philadelphia, Miss.

Im a white dude and my old boss from 40 years ago was from Philadelphia, Miss. We were in Los Angeles and he owned a trucking company. He told me that he and his brother were walking home from school back in the 40’s and they saw a black man hanging from a tree a couple hundred feet off the gravel road. He told his mom about it when he got home and she whipped him and told him not to ever speak of anything like that to anyone ever again. He was told to be quiet about that stuff.
He also went to school with all those law enforcement officers and others that murdered those 3 college kids back in 64. He knew the guy that owned the earthen dam where those 3 kids were buried. Such a small world.
He passed away in 88 and is buried outside Philadelphia, Miss.
