    What I did was play along with Tom's bass isolated and started at quarter speed and worked my way up . Groove is in the heart and you should play a few bars of it like you were playing with the band . You kinda sounded like a bass bot.

    ARI always lays it down like a BOSS! What a great musician and teacher... lou gramm from foreigner was always waiting for a girl like you! ginger hair? ( perhaps that's true) All we know is he was entranced by her... and he gave such a great performance that night ... and by the end of the night nobody actually knew who she was or where she came from... but lou sang his heart out to her! and whether you are still around or still listening ( we really don't know..) But, ..wherever you are and whomever you may be! This song is for you!

    The thing that has challenged me (still does) is the eighth note string skipping part where you skip the d string. For example if I play the whole thing an octave lower and use the open A string, it becomes do-able.

    I don't know man? Maybe for a beginner this is a difficult bass line? I never even actually sat down & "Learned" it. It's one of those songs you've heard it so many times, if you've been playing for a while, you have a good idea of what's being played. I think this bass line is also a great exercise for practicing.

    A question about right hand technique: Do you rake from the upper notes to the lower notes even if it means crossing over a string i.e. use the same finger to pluck the high G and the lower A as well as use the same finger to pluck the octave A to the lower A?

    • @LearnBassWithAri
      @LearnBassWithAri 5 лет назад

      Sean, I trained myself to put my RH on autopilot. Many advantages of not having to decide which finger to use. Alternate and it's done! That said there are certain applications (like triplet drops in walking for example) where raking sounds better I think.

      Um..you are confusing syncopation with playing in time. She is helping the player understand the divisions not how to syncopate Hamiltons rhythm. Also, while done implicitly, she cleverly forces the player to pay attention to their fingering by insisting you practice the phrases by breaking longer notes into 16ths. Without stating it, you must play with the proper fingering to accomplish this. I hope this is helpful.

    You sound like a robot playing this iconic bass line. there is so much more to this bass line than just plucking the notes. Try a slight pull off from the high G to the open G same with the high D to the open D. Playing without feeling is a bad habit.
