Love your videos - you convey so much passion for the sport but with humour and without the patronising tone of so many fishing videos. Nicely grounded, guys. Thanks.
I guess they could, but I've not had it yet.It certainly seems to get them more aggressive,so next season I expect more crash takes close in to rushes, weedbeds etc. Heart thumping stuff when a double figure fish eats in an explosive swirl. That's why I love it.The unexpected take at the last moment
A large sized landing net, with soft mesh.If you net a big one don't lift it by the pole,it will probably snap at the "Y" frame.Carry the Pike by holding the weight using the mesh of the net,but watch for loose hooks .I'm always aware of any loose barbed hooks outside the pike's jaws.
Very cool rig! I am going to give it the old college try this summer for pike and musky! I think I will not only try it with real bait, but also with some soft plastics. As you Brits say "Brilliant!" Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the advice Graeme, I'm really enjoying your videos. I've just been down to Tescos and bought 60 sprats for £2.54, that's probably 4 days piking. Keep the vids coming.
I always make sure to look at the weather for the place you're going at, and paying attention if it rained a day early. nothing worse than fishing flooded water!
Yes,I've been to BC,caught loads of Salmon out of Bamfield using those huge flashers and a hoochee at the back.Plus baits. But I don't think anyone has ever used a silver plastic picnic spoon for pike. You guys get Northern pike over there,I reckon it could be a good technique for them as well.
I posted on this video in the past and I really enjoy your show. I have also watched a lot of other UK pike fishing videos here on RUclips, but I have to ask, why do you Brits always seem to use such very fragile looking nets for pike? Most of the guys that I know over here in the States use the rubberized nets on a more sturdy frame and handle. I understand that a lot of you guys hike into the places you fish, but there are nets on the market (at least over here anyway) that are light weight and collapsible. They not only keep the weight down but they are also are very sturdy and they help keep the fish from being damaged/hurt from the net. Any way, love the show and keep up the good work. Tight lines. Scott
Worth a try. It should catch pike anywhere. Same principle, but twitch it slower. Last time I was at Bury Hill it had a slight tinge of colour in it, but they do have plenty of predators. I would say it would also work on Zander.
Absolutely brilliant video Graeme will definitely try this rig in the new season. Not been catching much on my traditional set-up apart from some swanky brolly at the end of the season.
Sky Sports Tight Lines show needs this guy i think they should give him a 20 minute slot on the show at least once a month to liven things up a bit i love watching This guy he makes me laugh so much and i just love fishing like he does :)
The excitement around 27:00 says it all. I'll be sure to try this once the pike season kicks off for good. Hopefully we'll see some new pike movies soon?
I don't know if they still market or sell it as the spool I have is over 15 years old and I've still got lots left.Try a search engine or sea fishing site as it is for sea fishing really, and probably a lot cheaper than buying wire on small spools for pike.Get a bulk spool it lasts years !!
Ive seen this technique before when i first started fishing,i seen it in a book,(i forget the name,i lent it to my cousin when he started)but it had a diagram of pieces of tinfoil tied onto the line representing small baitfish.
Your videos make a large part of my RUclips consumption. I'm targeting Catfish this coming season and would like to adopt your twitching method using oily deadbaits. Could you remind me of which video outlines how to reinforce the head of a deadbait to give a stronger hook hold. Thanks in advance, you Legend!
I saw a pike that looked 7 or 8 inches across jump at a Great Blue Heron on my local river (which is supposedly bad for Pike), I think I'll try for it with one of these!
i was in powell river when i first saw them but there was one little different the had single octopus hooks on them . but great minds think alike and just to tell you smaller one work well in deep lakes for big trout and like you said pike. i when use them this summer it was when we right up next to shore and other stuff would tangle up in the kelp tight line max
awesome video I'll be spending lots of time trying to make these rigs myself! How much do sprats usually weigh? I must admit I've never bought them from morrisons as I dont eat those fish haha.
No idea on weight, but sprats are light, and laterally compressed, that's why I use a big shot to give a bit of casting weight and get them down. No, I don't eat them either. Waste of a good bait !
Honestly I've watched all of your videos, this must be the funniest clip you both have done. Loved it. Still laughing as I'm typing this message. Well to you both. Ps, where can I buy the VB hooks looked all over for them, but still cannot find any to buy.
Question,please...When you get a take from the fish,do you strike straight away?...or do you give line to the fish, wait and then strike?...Great vids, btw
Small bait strike straight away, larger bait give a bit of time,10 seconds,or bit more if you are missing fish on the strike.Could also be a small Pike moving off with a big bait.
the closest anyone from BC can get to productive Pike Waters would be in Alberta on Lesser Slave Lake or Lake Athabasca. Both of those locations are huge draws for fly in or drive in fishing in Alberta.
Probably casting too hard and not using either the VB hook or a big single through the bottom and out the top of the head to support it during the cast. Not good with trebles, they don't go far enough back in the head.
wow what a method what do you reckon it will be ok on a twitchin , bitchin, floatin, rig? thanks for the inspiration now to find some plastic shinny spoons totaly awesome fishing rocks
By the way Graeme (and Mike) come to wales and catch some True Wild Carp (The oldest in Britain Guaranteed. Just get in contact and I'll arrange it. I can arrange camping or a nice hotel for £30 a night with a good Breakfast. Loads of my friends come here and take me up on the offer.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what to look for in a reel suitable for pike? I know it's going to carry some 20lb braid but how much? Recommendations?
tried using your twitch sprat method today and i kept losing my sprats during the cast i bought them out my local tackle shop so is it because i used trebles or poor quality bait
no river season here in NI.but our local river has just had a huge fish kill due to farmers.one of the main tributary's and where salmon fry were restocked to restore the river has been completely wiped out =[ we have huge problems with pollution all over ireland
taf you have come up with a fantastic rig. get it patented mate. don't let a greedy fat cat make money off your great idea. I am a fan of your videos, would love to go fishing with you but I would be laughing my head off more than fishingas you got a great sense of humour.tight lines mate
ive been experimenting with my traces for quite some time! i would love to send you some of my creations for you to give a go! message me your address and i will send some out

Just going through some of your older videos guys, and this is without a doubt my favourite TAFishing video. Roll on Pike season!
Graeme that is literally the best fishing idea I have ever heard, keep doing the videos, love em all.👍
Just made a couple of these rigs. Tested them in the bath and well impressed. Can't wait to try it out asap.

Really enjoyed this one. This has inspired me to try some of my own ideas...
Ha the new bitchin twichin rig! Sounds like my wife would be good at that!
LOL
Awesome fish. I will try this technique in the next couple week when the weather gets a little warmer.

Graeme, you show people that you don't have to be crazy to fish, but it sure helps. :o)
Graeme you are a legend.
Ive seen this technique before when i first started fishing,i seen it in a book,(i forget the name,i lent it to my cousin when he started)but it had a diagram of pieces of tinfoil tied onto the line representing small baitfish.
Never tried. But if you fished with a mini lightstick/isotope about a foot up the trace it might enhance the flash. Certainly worth a try.
Rigs using Sucker for Pike on Hard water in North America . Id recommend adding a clevis to the spoon bill to aid in its swivel
Very good idea, i'll give it a try
Great video, I must say I like what you guys are doing. Keep up the good work...
Flames, many thanks I'll have a search. Great thank you
Thumbs up for catch and release
Not this exact method, but we have done a pike fishing with deadbaits and floats video

Nice pike rig guys I might use it next time I go pike fishing :)
that rig is totally awesome
Gonna give this a try on my Live Catfish for the Giant Snakeheads

I'm definitely gonna try this nice video

@@TAFishing Thank you and Happy Christmas..
generally not a good combination with spinners and floats. if you do that Id recommend sizing the spoon down. and using a florcarbon leader
awesome rig!
the closest anyone from BC can get to productive Pike Waters would be in Alberta on Lesser Slave Lake or Lake Athabasca. Both of those locations are huge draws for fly in or drive in fishing in Alberta.
hey. what size VB hooks do you guys use? just started piking and if I'm honest don't like trebles.. catch myself more than I do fish
Probably sizes 4,6 and 8
Probably casting too hard and not using either the VB hook or a big single through the bottom and out the top of the head to support it during the cast. Not good with trebles, they don't go far enough back in the head.
Hi can you pleas explain how to get the oil out of palets
Brilliant

Hi Guys, what are these hooks called? Searched high and low on the net and can't find them.
Regards
James Flood They were made by Partridge of Redditch and called VB hooks. I think they were invented by an angler called Vic Bellars.
Much appreciated. I've found the same type now but called Ryder. Thanks Graeme
Tried to find them myself mate but the Ryder's are different. Seems you can't get these ones anymore.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what to look for in a reel suitable for pike? I know it's going to carry some 20lb braid but how much? Recommendations?

Think you might struggle patenting a variable length spoon. Izaak Walton was making mention of them in the 1650s. Awesome vids though! Keep em coming.
Hi i think you show is amazing
I wish the rivers in my area were decent

Is it made with a plastic picnic teaspoon ?
I'm not having a go at you! I actually think your doing a great job. I hope 2017 brings some more great posts.
No it's not a plastic picnic spoon.
