You explained things so clearly. Thank you. I am thinking about buying a Roland so I can print stickers with white ink. I was wondering how we get the design to print in the same color I created it in.
If you want to print stickers with white ink you will need the BN-20 (not the BN-20A) but I would suggest you consider if you really need white ink. Usually you can get the look of white with the negative space just by printing on white material. I do not have white ink in my BN20A and as you can see parts of the designs are white.
Can i ask how you find the limitations of the cut? I plan to use the machine to cut small vinyl graphcs and im interested in how much detail you can retain? and how quick it cuts.

Hi there! You can find all links to Silhouette software upgrades here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2017/07/silhouette-studio-upgrade-features-list.html
How much does it typically cost to have a page of black and white decals printed out with only writing and maybe a simple company logo? Say a page of 2 x 1 inch stickers? Think of something like a serial number and product number with CE or UL and where the item is made at for a piece of equipment to be sold.
Hi there! To make the BN-20A more economical, it cannot print white and uses ecosolvent inks. You can with the white toner printer that uses toner versus the ink. Check out our blog posts on all printers including this one here: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/p/melissas-fleet-of-printers-for.html
The BN20 is capable of making transfers, stickers, banners, posters, etc. The 20 has white ink for transparent media, the 20A does not. The media is cheap and you can make a really good profit. The down fall is it is slow. White toner printers are a scam and the transfers chip and crack within the first few washes and the media and ink is so expensive that you can never make a profit using it. One media and toner restock will cost you over $1800 on a white toner.
@@SilhouetteSchool once I bring an image in it doesn't let me move it to a different area only if I click on to rotate it like from side to side or mirror or up & down
Really stupid question - how do you do a cut along the entire length of the vinyl? LOL I know how to cut around complex shapes, but I don't know how to cut the entire length of paper/vinyl once I have all the stickers/etc. I want.
I am a Mac user also. I do everything on my MAC as far as designing and adding the cut lines. Unfortunately Versaworks is only PC compatible so I use a PC for that...same with the White Toner Printer.
@@SilhouetteSchool both of you guys should look into a program called Parallels. It lets you run Windows within an app on your Mac. This is how I run Windows on my Mac to print with my DTF printers, and I'm getting by BN-20A setup on it as well. Highly recommend! It's integrates with all your Mac files as well so there's no back and forth
Hi, I'm new here, but I know the BN 20A, tell me something if the equipment has an intuitive software like Versa Works, why do I work with silhouette software? I await your reply, thanks!
Hi there! Check out this section of the blog for multiple BN-20A projects and the materials used: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/p/roland-bn-20a-and-versaworks-tutorials.html
does the BN20 require an offset adjustment like graphtec plotters? example, if i print a solid color circle, then use my graphtec to cut it (reg marks), sometimes I have to adjust the offset +1 or -1 (or a few more) because instead of cutting perfectly on top of/around the printed image, it may cut shifted a few mm to the left of it, resulting in a cropped image on the right side (despite being a perfectly cut circle anyway). rather than deal with manual adjustments on the machine, i sometimes shift the cut pattern in the program a couple of pixels to the left, then cut and then it's usually fine. are there any such issues with the BN20? also at around 10:15, i see a tiny white outline around the bottom of the image. is this outline only at the bottom, or is it completely around the image? (i wouldn't mind completely around, just as long as this isn't an offset issue). if it's completely around, all i'd probably have to do is add an extra bit of color overflow to the print itself so that it's captured by the cut.
There may be other ways to create a cut line, but I use Silhouette Studio everyday and that's the easiest and fastest way I have found to create the cut line needed for Versaworks. Silhouette Studio is free to download and you can practice tracing. To use Studio to create the cut lines you'll need to be able to export as a PDF which is a feature in the upgraded version of the software called Business Edition. It's a one time paid upgrade of $99
Hi there, I’m trying to figure out if I can just cut out a stencil with the Roland bn-20. I don’t want to print anything as I’m going to remove the object I cut so I can use it as a stencil. Is that possible with this machine?
I would setup the design in Silhouette Studio just the same way...don't fill it with any color. Export as PDF and open in AI then turn the line the CutContour color. Set the mode to Cut online in VW
@@SilhouetteSchool thank you so much for your speedy reply, really appreciate that info. Apparently our library has the machine so I want to understand as much as possible how to do it before booking time to go use their machine, and be as prepared as I can be.
@@foodislife3390 Another option would be to keep your image as is, ie filled with colour and the cut line, and once on VersaWorks, select the "Cut Only" option from the Operation Mode drop down menu. This can be found by selecting the scissor icon, the drop down menu will be on the top, the default is print and cut, click on the drop down menu and then select "Cut Only" this way it won't print and will just cut using your cut line as a guide. Hope this helps.

Roland has zero support. i put in a support ticket to their third party company and they never called back. after you make the purchase roland washes their hands of you. the supplier i bought it from is even worse.

White toner printers are a scam and the transfers chip and crack within the first few washes and the media and ink is so expensive that you can never make a profit using it. One media and toner restock will cost you over $1800 on a white toner.
How do you get the images to move to the opposite side to print on that side
Position them where you want them in Versaworks
@@SilhouetteSchool once I bring an image in it doesn't let me move it to a different area only if I click on to rotate it like from side to side or mirror or up & down
Really stupid question - how do you do a cut along the entire length of the vinyl? LOL I know how to cut around complex shapes, but I don't know how to cut the entire length of paper/vinyl once I have all the stickers/etc. I want.
Hi there! Are you meaning horizontally across?
Question , all I have is a Mac. Do i have to get a PC to use this machine ?
If you want to create your own designs, do layout, or add cut lines you can use Silhouette Studio.
Do you know if you can use GIMP?
Hi there! I'm sorry, I haven't explored other program options in depth.
What paper did you use with this sticker?
Hi there! Check out this section of the blog for multiple BN-20A projects and the materials used: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/p/roland-bn-20a-and-versaworks-tutorials.html
So we also got to have adobe illustrator
Hey there! Check out this blog post: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/08/how-to-use-silhouette-studio-business.html
How can I add contour cut lines if I don't own Adobe Illustrator?
I am working on tutorials for other software programs as well
Whenever I do this it brings me to a little warning triangle.. How do I fix that?
does the BN20 require an offset adjustment like graphtec plotters? example, if i print a solid color circle, then use my graphtec to cut it (reg marks), sometimes I have to adjust the offset +1 or -1 (or a few more) because instead of cutting perfectly on top of/around the printed image, it may cut shifted a few mm to the left of it, resulting in a cropped image on the right side (despite being a perfectly cut circle anyway). rather than deal with manual adjustments on the machine, i sometimes shift the cut pattern in the program a couple of pixels to the left, then cut and then it's usually fine. are there any such issues with the BN20? also at around 10:15, i see a tiny white outline around the bottom of the image. is this outline only at the bottom, or is it completely around the image? (i wouldn't mind completely around, just as long as this isn't an offset issue). if it's completely around, all i'd probably have to do is add an extra bit of color overflow to the print itself so that it's captured by the cut.
I would recommend adding a bleed to avoid a slightly white edge
So this machine prints and cut for you or just cut
Print and cut! Check out our blog posts about it here! www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/p/roland-bn-20a-and-versaworks-tutorials.html
Hi! I have a question… when I click path in AI and add the cut contour my whole image turns pink and not just the border.. any idea how to fix that?
Shift + x that will invert to stroke
My versaworks doesn’t rip. Not enough memory it says. I’ve changed the settings in preferences. Any advice on what the problem could be?
Hi, try to enter in versawork as an administrator.
What paper are you using on this video? I tried to click above but it says link is not valid anymore.
I am using matte cal vinyl shrsl.com/3ugia
Hi my Roland dosnt want to cut the test cut I don’t now y I adjusted the blade

Do you have to have a Silhouette studio
There may be other ways to create a cut line, but I use Silhouette Studio everyday and that's the easiest and fastest way I have found to create the cut line needed for Versaworks. Silhouette Studio is free to download and you can practice tracing. To use Studio to create the cut lines you'll need to be able to export as a PDF which is a feature in the upgraded version of the software called Business Edition. It's a one time paid upgrade of $99
Is there a monthly fee for this program
I did exactly what you did and a thin blue line is printing around all of my images please help.
Either change the line weight to 0 or make it transparent
@@rulaatallah5408 that’s great info, thank you!
@@foodislife3390 you're most welcome, hope it works.
Do you happen to know why when I add my image to the queue the page is sized to 20 by 24 inches and I'm not able to arrange it. Thanks
All my images are far apart from each other and won't let me arrange them.
Use the clipping tool in VW in the Settings to remove some of the excess space around each image then nest.
@@SilhouetteSchool Thanks it worked
What if the file doesn’t rip , it says rip is at low memory to change in preferences
I have not seen that error before. Does your computer have enough memory? Seems like a system issue
I just checked it does
For some reason, my single color graphic, which is green, is only printing in grey....any ideas?

How do you save file to a pdf?
It depends what program you are saving from :)
I’m following along with you. I don’t see we’re save to pdf is I seen you do it but I can’t find it. I have the Business edition also.
Why is it when I’m done it says the file is corrupted when I try and open in versaworks? Please help

bjr je voudrais savoir comment fair le contour de decoupe pour que la machine decoupe stp
Does anyone else know what kind of media (paper) she uses. I have tried to follow her link on media type but I cant find the answer I am looking for. Thank you in advance.
Hey there! If you click the link above to the machine and the materials I use to go with it.
Do you have to have AI or can you use photoshop?
There are various programs you can use to create the contour lines. I currently have videos on how to use Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer
It is not giving me the option for the Versaworks Swatch Files for Roland. Can anyone help?

Affinity Designer is another option. www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/05/roland-bn-20-software-why-silhouette.html
I followed all the steps but when i get to path and select it and click on the pink roland it turns the whole image pink. Has anyone had that problem?
Hey there it sounds like you've selected the main path of the object rather than an outline path to select with the contour cut.
why is my Roland BN20A versaworks not cutting but making all the noise

Can we use PhotoShop instead of Illustrator?
My entire image changes to the color of the CutContour
It sounds like you are not selecting the Path, but instead the design. Make sure you are only selecting the "path" line.
Make sure that you are changing only the stroke to CutContour and not the fill. If you have the fill selected, when you select CutContour, it will change the fill colour, ie. your entire image colour. Hope this helps.
So mine won't be here till at least June 😫😫
Trying to learn what I can till then and I'm wondering if you can do a cut and a kiss cut, for sticker sheets, like I do on my Silhouette.
With the Roland ban-20a will I be able to print glass wraps for the 16 oz glass?
Hey there! I made this tumbler wrap on the BN-20a! www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/03/sublimation-tumbler-mess-up-how-to-save.html
you dont laminate it?
You can but on the BN-20a eco solvent inks don’t necessarily need it!
The BN20 is a waist of money. you will spend your time trouble shooting instead of printing. i paid for the machine and so far have spent a little over $500 in vinyl just to get it to print. the machine has made me$0.00 in revenue. Roland has zero support. i put in a support ticket to their third party company and they never called back. after you make the purchase roland washes their hands of you. the supplier i bought it from is even worse.

You can't print without ripping so if you click "Print" it will automatically rip for you.
