Everything about this song is incredible! The drums, the bass, the guitar and the vocals are all just iconic. This is the kind of rock that sends lightning bolts through your veins. Just charging you up until you have no choice but to sing along and start head banging. Beautiful!

My first year in the Navy, 1977. I'll never forget these ladies and this song. Spring of 1978 we played this album and Van Halen's first album endlessly. My buddy had just bought a nice Teac stereo system and we blew up the neighborhood.😊

In fact, I have rediscovered (and the song has now become more relevant to me, as I have grown older): Pat Benatar's "Promises in the Dark". That woman can sing! And her husband of decades, Neil Giraldo, is an underestimated, amazing guitar player!
I think Lizzy Hale is one of the greatest rock voices as well. She did a rock cover of Daft Punks "Get Lucky".

I’m here because my dad was there in 1977 when the hit the charts. I saw them in concert when I was 16 they were old but still rockin. Glad I got to. That year I tried to go to as many old school rock legends as possible. Aerosmith the police I saw a dedicated concert for Bon Jovi which I think his son performed at. Heart. Almost got to see Kiss but they canceled they were my dad’s favorite
Best female voice in rock period, they'll never be a person with the voice of Ann.

Their cover of Stairway to Heaven is possibly the best cover ever. It’s even better than the original. The addition of a choir and Ann’s voice at its strongest results in something that could bring a god to their knees.
Grace Slick sang like this, could really rock out. But she could also do bluesy type stuff. And of course, acid-y type stuff. Actually Ann sounds like Grace in this song, in her shouty high notes.
My first rock concert was Heart when they were on the Bad Animals tour. It was an amazing experience, of course. However, I was confused when they didn’t play Barracuda before they left the stage. A few minutes later, the dark stage exploded with the sound of Nancy Wilson playing this fabulous opening riff. The lights came up in time to see her jump off the drummer’s platform and Ann to burst through the curtain. It was an incredible display of sight and sound. I haven’t experienced a concert moment like it since.

This song will always have one the most wicked guitar beats ever no one can argue with me there.
I can. While the main riff may very well have a rhythmic quality, it ain't a "beat", per se. While the rhythm is compelling, the melodic structure is as, if not more, important.
