Logger style boots are extremely popular right behind your average square toe pull ons out here in central and northern California. I went with the Whites Smokejumpers. Best boot i have ever worn. Probably not gonna need a new pair for a few years. They're that well built
I wear out a pair of the twisted x slip on loafers a year. I love them best slip on safety toe shoe i have found. My lace up work boots are Ariat and pull on's are double H.
I wore the soles off those boots when I had them. At the time I was on cement flooring a lot at my chem plant. I looked up one day and those suckers were smooth even on the bottom. They were comfortable but soles sucked.
That is the trade off on wedge boots though and most people should know what the trade off is when making that decision. Comfort vs durability when it comes to straight wedges. Of course you can get styles where the wedge is the midsole and a thin rubber outer sole is used for increased durability. Even those are still more comfortable than non wedges though. For example the Georgia Boot Amp LT Wedge is a very comfortable and durable wedge style. I have the chelsea style but may end up with the lace up when I need to upgrade.
I personally really like the danner bull run they take a little bit to break in but once broken in they are hands down the most comfortable boot I’ve worn
I realize others have mentioned Thorogoods and I would absolutely agree with them. That is all I used to wear. Recently though I was looking for different wedge styles and found a brand called Golden Fox on amazon. I would highly recommend them. They are a fraction of the price and are fantastic quality when that is considered. The reviews will back that up as well. The leather isn't as soft as Thoro but like I said the price justifies that. I ended up buying a second color a couple months after the first to rotate and help them last longer since all wedges are known to be less durable. The trade off is very real and something that needs to be considered. Just a FYI there are styles with the wedge as the midsole and have a thin rubber outer to increase durability. See Georgia Boot AMP LT wedge for reference. Anyways, keep up the videos I love learning from welders that know their craft and I know I can trust when absorbing the info they are giving. Much respect.
I don’t weld but I do run trackhoes and lay water main lines. I wear either Thorogood moc toe wedge soles or CAT moc to wedge soles. Both are crazy comfortable and you won’t see me wear nothing else.
I have worn most of the brands over the years. I have the green top twisted x like yours and a couple of the loafers. Another pair that I will switch to occasionally is the Rocky Long Range steel square toe boot.
My brother he wears nothing but skate shoes in his shop he had one of his employee's knock a chunk of steel off the bench onto his foot he was hopping around in a bit of pain. Never deterred him from not wearing skate shoes in the shop. When I was welding in the family fab shop I wore romeo slip on boots (Blundstones). We did a lot of marine work so you need something easy to kick off if you fall in the water lace up boots will drown you.
I’ve got the ariat intrepid ventTEK composite toe boots and I like them. My feet sweat and I’ve felt a difference with the vents when my pants ain’t over the shaft of the boot. The composite toe also makes it a lot lighter. I’ve talked with the on site OSHA safety man about them and he approves of em.
Military boots fit good and the bottom Vibram soles last a long time, Belleville and Bates are the brands. Spent four years in the marines and deployed to Iraq and boots came back in one piece. And now that I got into welding I still use them and they are holding up just fine .
I absolutely love those twisted X shoes. Justin also makes a steel toe shoe very similar to those, that aren’t as comfortable but last a lot longer. And are 60 a pair here n tx, when twisted X are 110
Just found your channel. Trying to figure out what sort of welding to get into. Anyhow, your video was about boots. I wear Georgia Boots. Romeo variant. I'm on my second pair. First pair lasted almost 10 years. They come in a low top and mid top style. Steel toe option also. Best boot I've ever owned.
Been looking for the most comfortable steel toes I can find for standing on steel and concrete all day. Metatarsal (can get aftermarket) and laces required where I work. My keens have been relatively comfortable but man if there’s something better I’d take it.
Hey man I’m bout to graduate highschool and I wanna go into the pipeline could you tell me what I have to do to become a helper?? Your vids are really good👌🏼
I was just wondering did u go to school and how long did it take to to get all your certifications to become a pipe line welder and if so what is the best way to go about it?
try durango brand, they are really ligth, regular leather and they have some type of rubber on the sole and makes em really comfortable, they are around 150 bucks! and last a while
rick most uncomfortable boot, takes forever to wear them in, although their stainless lace ratchet style work boot are awesome. You can't go passed a pair of Justin work boots they are comfortable straight out of the box
Get your self a good pair of Danner or Wesco steel to lace up boots. They are the very best boots made. they are very comfortable once you break them in Expensive but they will last a lifetime. I've got a few pairs. I keep the old ones for nastier jobs and other's so always have a dry pair. It will take you longer to break them in than the deal you're wearing out in a few months. Carolina is a very good low cost alternative.
For safety toe I like the Chippewa logger style boots. A pair will last me about a year give or take. Non safety toe I love the Sperry top siders basically boat shoes
Man I have had good boots and terrible ones, and I have honestly never had a more quality and comfortable boot than redwings. Model #4215 pair them up with the insoles and you'll be good to go. Unless you don't want the laces which is understandable in your field. Good luck
Austin Ross sweet thanks for the reply man, recent subscriber within the last year or so maybe, all your videos are great man! Also any suggestions for a good pancake hood? Much appreciated man!
no boot better suited for the trenches than an Army boot. I get a desert set for summer and black waterproof ones or winter. $45 a pair for Response Gear brand over at Big 5. Screw safety toe... way too cold in winter for steel and it dig into the tops of my feet. I know I could get fired or get hurt but I'd quit if I had to jam my mangled feet into cold safety toes.
Ariats suck. Used to wear them, till the soles on the last 3 pairs I bought, all busted and had chunks of rubber falling off of them in less than 9 months of wear. I vowed to never buy a pair of Chinese made pos again. So now I wear Double H. By far the best boots I've ever owned and they're made in USA!!

TheLedzeppfan Thorogoods are the Cadillac of boots with steel toes. Like wearing nothing! Nice name btw!
I wore the soles off those boots when I had them. At the time I was on cement flooring a lot at my chem plant. I looked up one day and those suckers were smooth even on the bottom. They were comfortable but soles sucked.

Try the Ariat workhog composite toe work boots the best I’ve found.
Ty Ellis
Yes I want to try some composite toe. That way during the winter they won’t be as cold as steel toe.
