I can’t believe I’m at the last video 😫 waahhhhh Loved the journey thus far, good sir! So looking forward to the progression of the Hellenistic Age Podcast!!!! U rock!!!
I would love to see a TV series that covers Roman history but the main characters are the historians/writers. So many of them were either friends of or received patronage from very major figures. I think it would be a unique way to get various angles on the major players while also focusing on the minor characters. You got Polybius, Virgil, Tacitus, Seutonius, both Plinys, Josephus, Cassius Dio, Procopius, etc.
Thanks for reminding us that prior to the invention of the codex authors wrote on scrolls -so there wasn't a single book in the great library of Alexandria! I heard fairly recently that the invention of the book or codex was prompted by Christianity and its need to compile the biblical canon and to control heretical movements. A book was tightly held together by binding and couldn't be added to and tampered like a scroll could be so a much tighter control could be had of the contents free of contentious information.
@@HellenisticAgePodcast It could be said that it covers much of the Pre-Alexander times but... when did the Hellenic (Sons of Japheth) people and Egyptians (Mizraim) met each other. Would you do an overview of it before Alexander?
Diego Ragot Well Egypt and Greece had been in contact for many centuries prior to the arrival of the Macedonians. Greeks served as mercenaries in the armies of the Saite Pharaohs, and there was a number of Greek colonies and settlements both near and within Egypt, namely Cyrene in Libya and Naucratis in Western Nile Delta. I don’t plan to go in much if any detail about Greco-Egyptian contact pre-Alexander, but check out my episodes on the Ptolemies if youre interested further
Diego Ragot Oh for sure. In a few months I plan to do a few episodes that will cover the life of a Greek in Hellenistic Egypt, and compare and contrast it with the life of an Egyptian in Hellenistic Egypt.
Very nice condensed version! Pleasurable to hear, as I garden...Your narrative was soothing.
Excellent ! Entertaining AND educational......👍 🇬🇧 !

Is this the last video? that's horrible, this is my first! :(
They have uploaded more since then. :) The most recent was about Indo-Greek culture.
Great, Great Job. I can't say it enough. You are Polybius the Younger, possibly.
This was a very nicely presented podcast. Thank you very much! I look forward to listening to the previous and future episodes
Timaeus has been pretty quiet ever since Polybius dropped his diss track
Never heard of this thing even i consider my self history lover. 👏👏

The first Olympic Games were in 776, not 756, BCE.
very good video
I flipping love that intro music! Anyone can read the complete Polybius online, here: erenow.net/ancient/the-complete-histories-of-polybius/
timaeus sounds like every negative stereotype of modern historians now.
Hey there, I have a question!
Sure, fire away
