It’s been good for me on Xbox. Definitely some bugs that need to be taken care of but I’m just grateful I get a convenient way to play with my good friend that lives 4 hours away from me
Hey MQ, thanks for posting this. I haven't played much in the last two months because of life stuff getting in the way. I had heard the launch didn't go well, but i hadn't checked out the details until your video. Hopefully the devs can right the ship. I mostly wanted to say that i hope you don't feel pressure from the community to always be making guides and new frosthaven videos. You've already provided so much for the community, you don't owe us anything. Relax, take some pressure off of yourself and do what you enjoy. That being said, i have a friend that has some technical knowledge when it comes to web development (he was in my gloomhaven play group, and it's currently in my frosthaven play group as well) so I'll share your video with him and maybe he'll reach out.
8:30 there was no update to the Mac version at the console launch. The patch allowed PC players to play with console and stopped Mac players from connecting to PC or Console. My group couldn’t play anymore (2 Mac, 1 Epic) so the patch made the game non-functioning if any group crossed the pc/max lines like it’s 1998. They just opened an open beta for Mac that is supposed to fix this. I’ll see soon.
I'm currently playing through the physical game, so I decided I wouldn't buy the digital version (yet). I'm having a blast with three of my friends and it is probably the best (board)game I have played up till now. I wish everyone the same experience. :)
I've been playing it on the Xbox1 since release day, and other than some annoying bugs that have been fixed (Pull issues with the Redguard namely), it has been pretty much just fine for me.
Glad to hear you are taking care of yourself man. I love your content but your mental and physical health is very important. You should never feel guilty about self care.
Old bugs coming back or new bugs popping up are one thing BUT being unable to connect at all is unacceptable. My 2year + group/campaign has a Mac player who cannot connect, making our multiplayer game unplayable; that is a BIG issue. After waiting for 2 weeks for any news regarding Mac, the non-Mac players had to go to Beta version to be able to connect and continue playing. However, the problem is I also have other games with 2 other groups and being on BETA blocks me from connecting to them, so I have to go back and forth between the 2 versions, this is killer! And now I find myself having to pick which group I abandon because I cannot keep downloading and switching between the 2 versions. To make matters worse, my second oldest group has an Epic player, and that doesn't even have the option to go to a BETA in order to be able to connect. So to recap, I have 3 stable groups of working adults, 1 with a Mac, 1 with an Epic and 1 all Steam PC....I have to pick to either play with the Mac player group which is my longest standing arrangement but block myself from the rest of the community at large, or play with my all Steam PC group and abandon my oldest most stable group, and my Epic player group cannot play period. At least I have choices, imagine a Mac or Epic player suddenly finding themselves disconnected from the community and the only option they are given is to convince other people to switch to beta, or in the case of Epic, no option at all.
That's a really sucky situation and definitely a symptom of them trying (and so far failing) to go wide with their cross play. The game was given away for free on Epic so there are potentially thousands of players on that platform. I hope they resolve it soon for you and your group man because you shouldn't have to choose.
As a solo, XBOX, player it’s been great. A few freezes here and there, but nothing too bad. It’d be easier to use a mouse/keyboard I’m sure but plays pretty damn good. No way I’d ever play the actual board game again.
Hey! I have found that the Solo Scenarios DLC that's was meant to be in the Mercenaries Edition Physical Copy, doesn't work. No Code, and on the PlayStation Marketplace, the DLC doesn't have even exist. It shows in game, but if you try and join a Pc/Xbox lobby with the DLC Enabled, Ps5 players can't join.
My first opinion of Gloomhaven is the PS version. It feels clunky. But i think that's the actual game. They fixed a few things that didn't seem to work right within the first week. I'm still learning the game so we are forgiving to the quirks. Multilayer is working competently for us between PS5 and PS4.
The game itself is a bit fiddly and the control scheme on console is decent, but clearly not the best way to control this type of game. Good to hear multiplayer is working well for you on PlayStation.
They didn’t play test the PC patch full stop. The amount of UI elements not loading and/or overlapping are unacceptable. Constant disconnects made multiplayer unplayable. Friend and I have limited time to play games online together and we had to remove gloomhaven digital (our go to) as an option until they can get it back to pre patch stability. Best of luck on your health journey.
I agree that stuff is really disappointing because the previous UI worked fine. I understand that the new controller scheme didn't work great with it, but it's a downgrade for mouse and keyboard players for sure. Thanks for the well wishes too 🙂
Update - Tried it and it appears you can no longer use the portraits for anything. In fact the only way to remove a card from your active area appears to be in that rounds card selection which is really not ideal as you lose a turn with it active in play. Definitely needs to be fixed IMO as its a key strategy to juggle these on some characters.
@@MandatoryQuest Thanks MQ. I figured out yesterday that you can unsummon during card selection, but, as you say, it seems there is no way to unsummon in the middle of a round
I play outside Linebacker and I wont say for who because it pinpoints my location, but its a small team in a small league. Its not hugely popular here in the UK.
Me and a friend had at one play session that ended early after the patch when we constantly encountered a bug where the game would not display the card abilities when mousing over them at the start of the turn obviously not a fun way to try and play the game. Have not encountered since luckely so I assume it has been fixed.
I last played it Oct 24, 2021... which is wild cause thats my birthday. But I have 90 hours.... but I dont even remember it having a campaign.... I just kept picking locations on a map and many levels had no story level. I honestly didnt even know it was a board game til I was asking you questions in Twitch. I love tactical RPGS so I enjoyed the game as basically just an engine and I maxed all the characters I could get. Im surprised they even tried to port it though because the controls definitely feel like it needs to be on pc... and it used a lot of processor power for seemingly no reason. They were just a little to slow to add on for me... and a little silent for my taste. But hey, I might update it and go at it again if theres enough new stuff since my play.
Also having attempt content creation myself but 15 years ago and again 8 years ago.... I know the feeling. Dont give up yet, your content is solid I just think your target audience is too narrow. Hell I havent played this game for 2 years and I still watched this whole video if that can attest to anything.
I played on PC since initial release. It had issues but they got it to the place where it is/was my favorite board/video game of all time. I got the switch version since I don’t have a steam deck. Is it great? No not like the PC, is it playable - absolutely. You were spot on in your analysis. Hope you are in good spirits and get healthy!
Looking for advice. I really want to like this game, I like the premise and setup. Unfortunately, I can never get past the Black Barrow. I watched your playthrough on normal, tried to replicate it and was down to one mercenary by the time I entered the third room. I have not, in all my attempts, been able to get any traction. I have rage quit the game three times. Not sure why this game has to be so difficult in the very first encounter. How is anyone supposed to learn to play the game, understand card combos when you are always on your heels, playing from desperation? Any help with card combos, combat strategies (beyond controlling as a #1) and card management on a higher level than turn-by-turn basis (how to optimize combos for longevity) would be highly and very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It’s been a month since you left your comment. I hope you’re still hanging in there. The campaign for this game has a very high skill floor compared to most games. It’s very common for people to be frustrated and not be able to pass Black Barrow on their first few attempts. If you are playing Gloom Haven digital, I strongly recommend playing guild master mode first. The learning experience is much easier there. I was playing the board game version with my group and we were all struggling.
