Longbows won't help in the Americas-- the natives already had bows, with flint-tipped arrows. It took guns (like cannons) to conquer THE Americas. A navy also facilitated troop reinforcement and deployment to trouble spots in the empire.
This is the unlimited upgrades mod AFAIK. You can have an archer who shoots like a machinegun across the entire map by using a mix of aegis, the resource cheats and spamming the upgrades constantly.
