- Steel soul is a broken gamemode with a million and one different ways to cheat and make it not so difficult. So I decided to abolish that idea and set myself a true challenge... beat everything in the game (for realsies) in a single life (without cheating)(i promise)

The dream warrior thing where they base their health off your nail level applies to NKG too! You can get a very quick-and-easy kill on him if you keep your upgrade level low and use powerful spells

Grimm only scales a teeny bit for the last two nail upgrades, whereas the grimmkin ghosts scale significantly with nail upgrades (and that's bad because the level 3 ones are like, super dangerous as run enders (it was the only time in 112 ss that I got to 1hp other than the both double shrumal ogre fights and the moss knight guarding the grub)
Yeah... I'm happy with my regular steel soul 112%. 😂 I never savequit (it always felt like cheating) but I sure took advantage of dying in the dream realm. 😂😂😂

For me, the pantheon of hallownest was the hardest achievement in the game, and i still couldn't pass it after days of grinding
After a year break from hollow knight, i tried to 112% steel soul, and completed it first try, as well as did PoH first try, without even practicing it (for more than a year as well)
So basically yeah i just ramdomly did the thing from the video, yeah

I did something similar with my housemate. The rule set was
Steelsoul
Benchless
No fast travel (only exception is to use the tram to get to the hive)
No savequits
112%
Tax season (this means that any time you *can* spend geo, you *must* spend geo. So every time you go to dirt mouth, you have to buy at least something from both Iselda and Sly. You also have to unlock every stag as you walk past their entrances)
so the only way to do this challenge is to circumvent 2 problems that you have to deal with. 1st problem. You can't equip charms if you can't bench so how are you going to go about equipping kingsoul in order to progress to the true ending? 2 once you've figured that out, plz let me know because i want to see if you came to the same conclusion I did a year ago
@@win2ette For full disclosure, we haven't yet beat the game with these limitations. That said, we disallowed savequitting specifically as a means of survival. So if we were in a safe location, we could quit out and jump back in. There are a couple of places where you can do this and you wake up on a bench. The first is near the snail shamen (right after you get VS), and the second is outside the Gray Mourner's shack, which is crucial because it is resettable by talking to Gray Mourner. This allows you to equip charms as needed while never "technically" selecting to sit on a bench.
On the Tax Szn rule - you are not allowed to progress past an area where you could spend money without spending that money (paying your taxes). This is brutal as you head down to Ancient Basin because you pass the fountain where you dump all your geo immediately before encountering a bench that you have to pay for before going to Broken Vessel to collect wings. Also, traditionally, we yell "tax season!" as we pay our taxes lol

I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t know savequits were a helpful thing when I first played Hollow Knight. With how bad a time I had dealing with just regular Radiance, and not realizing I could pull mulligans to prevent Steel Soul resets, I just didn’t even bother attempting it.

im scared. I recently started almost this exact challenge maybe a week or two ago on twitch, with the one difference being the whole safety net against dream fights mechanic. The fact that this video exists, and that he was willing to even try this scares me. I respect the grind, but I'm still keeping my Lost Kin safety net

dream warriors health increases with nail upgrades, but the upgrades outpace the health increases
so upgrading the nail still decreases the amount of hits you need to kill them
upgrading the nail makes killing them with spells slower
i think they're easiest with no nail upgrades or all of them... the middle ground just makes them annoying.
They're never hard but being able to kill markoth in 3 abyss shrieks is a lot easier than smacking him with a nail over and over...
