Dr. Art, I would love to see testimonials or road tests of this one and the 5.2 Magnum tow rig. Please, oh please!
Keep ‘em coming!
The guy with the 5.2 is super happy
I've never seen this done. Interesting video.
Very cool! I'll be looking at doing something like this if i ever get around to dropping a 408 in my '96. 😎
Thank you for your time. This is very informative. Please keep'em coming.
If the engine is hunting for the idle (large IAC swings), I find that it needs an idle sync. When you change airflow through the engine, you need to resync the IAC with mechanical idle set on the TB. You want IAC to not have to make big swings to maintain the idle.
Great video Art 👍 and very nice truck 👌 that’s basically what my question was a couple weeks ago on doing the same thing to basically Same truck. You should get him to send you a video of it running after for a follow up video on it.
Thanks that’s cool
Very cool walkthrough. 👍💪
I would like to see how my van looks on that graph.
Very informative, if you get a JTEC+, maybe we can look at the transmission settings to raise part throttle and full throttle shift points and delay overdrive. The TV lever can only do so much and raising shift limits don’t make much of a change either.
Nice Work Art!!!

That’s a Gen one
Lots of great information! please keep these videos coming! Can you do some more in depth videos on injector tuning for when you swap injectors?
for context, i have a 1996 ZJ grand cherokee with a 4.6L I6 stroker motor. it has a Comp Cam in it, late model horse-shoe intake manifold, 4.7L v8 throttle body, and 6.4L hemi SRT8 injectors on a stock fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator. ive been attempting to tune it myself, but calibrating the swapped injectors has had me stumped. once tuned N/A i have an M90 supercharger to go in which is the reason for such large injectors. if you have any input that would be extremely helpful!

2:34 What do the numbers mean in white on the left of the chart?
3:39 How does the timing value on the Y axis correlate to the numbers on the chart?
You don't use VE to plot a power curve?
Where are you basing your setting from? Do you have dyno tests that prove this?
The numbers on the left are the different manifold pressure readings that the map is seeing
The timing values are the same on the chart and on the graph it’s just a different way of viewing so they are 100% the same settings just display differently
All these changes were made based on dozens of prior tunes and dragstrip testing
Hey there Dr Art! Great informative video. Thanks for explaining things as you go along. It really helps the uninitiated. I have an 02 Ram 1500 with the 5.9, would this be a similar process to tune as the one you demonstrate here? It is also an automatic, how much transmission tuning can you do from the electronics side of things as opposed to a shift kit instal? I saw that the years listed for that ECU were 96-98, just curious if the ECU changed much late in the 5.9’s lifespan. Thanks! Keep it up 😁
Yes you 02 would be similar
The JTEC dose not have a lot of trans settings compared to later year computers
And your 02 is just a newer version of the JTEC
Dr. Art, I have a quick question.
If you were to put larger injectors in a magnum (to keep up with a 408 stroker) and were tuning the jtec computer, would you calculate the difference in flow rate as a percentage and then reduce the entire fuel table by the gap to set a new baseline fuel map that mimics the stock one so you have a place to start without flooding the engine?
So say it has 23lb-hr injector stock, and you put in a set of 30lb-hr ones. That's a 24% increase, so you would reduce the base fuel map by 24% across the board and then add fuel from there to get AFR where it should be right?
There’s an area on the fuel table that you would just change the injector flow rate
@@DrArtshotrodrehab o sweet, thanks
how do you purchase the credits ,,,c card or what??
Yes
how to set up account??
Go and create an account on the HP TUNERS website
If you need to purchase an interface, there’s a link in the video description
Computers? No thanks.
