I can't make my mind around the few likes and comments this song has. My English teacher does "musical listenings", and grabs a song and takes some words out so we complete it while listening. He showed us "here's looking at you kid" and I haven't stopped listening to this group since. Very underrated and it's a pity.

Listened to this album 100s of times and never gets old, in fact it sounds as fresh as the first time i heard it about 5 years ago, Simply genius from them as it always is.

This is simply Brian's attempt to write as close as he can to an actual Bruce Springsteen song. I don't mean that as an insult or as he's ripping Bruce off...far from it. The whole record is full of homages, from Bob Seger on "Great Expectations" to the Counting Crows, Tom Petty AND Bruce on "High Lonesome." I always thought, in a less direct way, this song was Brian idolizing one of his heroes on this record the same way he idolized Strummer on Sink or Swim with "I'da Called You Woody, Joe."
